Lahore Qalandars defeat Multan Sultans by 25 runs to set up final clash versus Karachi Kings

Karachi can't produce any world class talent so they take em from Lahore.

Fakhar Zaman who opens for Lahore and played an excellent knock today also played most of his cricket from Karachi due to his navy background.

If you call Fakhar a talent, idk what to say. He fails 9.5/10 times.

LQ vs KK dream final. I think Lahore is favourites here. Today they won without much contributions from Hafeez, Dunk, Shaheen and arguably Tamim. That’s a moral booster.

We have been waiting five seasons for this final finally the two heavy weights got their act together.

May the best team win, which obviously means an easy win for Karachi.

Lahoriyoon aam khayega aam?

Jab zada baarish ati hai. Tou zada pani ata hai.

Funny you are using that as an insult for Karachi but Karachiites themselves insult Billoo with it more than anyone. Please educate yourself PPP has no support in Karachi. The same cannot be said about gulli butts of Lahore and a certain special diet

I was replying to Aam khayega. No need to get emotional.

Wiese innings and Shan slowing down were the key factors here. Shan or even Roussow should have shown more intent . Wiese took advantage of some poor bowling.

Khushdil Shah is a DANGEROUS batsman.

Hussey type... I do hope we utilize his talent well and also further hone it.

If it comes down to Ifti or Khushdil, we all know who Misbah is going to favour.

Imran Tahir’s post game comments

"I would like to thank the people of Pakistan on behalf of the team and myself, as well as the foreign players who have only good words about this league; We always enjoy ourselves when we come here; You cannot say where any player will be next year as it depends on the draft, but I would like to comeback and play for Multan because they gave me the first opportunity to play in the PSL; I love the badge and I love the people around Multan Sultan"

His views on PSL v IPL:

"There is no need to compare - The standard is the same in both PSL and IPL leagues; As a bowler I feel that that the grounds are smaller here in PSL; But the standard in PSL is fantastic, there are good fast-bowlers, pitches are very good where the ball comes on to the bat nicely - maybe now and then, you get slow tracksbut I think that the standard of the league is very good"

“We had both games in our hands but we lost it. We were hoping to restrict them toward 160 but we couldn’t execute our skills properly. Then we got a good start with the bat, 91/2 and requiring the same in the last 10, we should have chased it.

“In both games, we had the games in our hands but we couldn’t finish the games. I won’t make any excuses. If we finished the games off, we would be looking toward the 17th. We played good cricket but made some mistakes and it’s important to learn from them.”

IDK why but I feel as though someone should work with Khushdil Shah on wicketkeeping. If he can do that, he can actually become such a versatile asset for Pakistan. We'd be able to drop Rizwan if he doesn't perform, and have space for another deserving batsman (SAUD SHAKEEL). Like there's no point in having "Khushdil the bowler", the management needs to realize this. A hard-hitting keeper is what Pakistan needs, and no offense to the current keepers, but they don't really suit that criteria.

An all-round performance by David Wiese carried Lahore Qalandars to the final of the HBL Pakistan Super League 2020 as they defeated Multan Sultans by 25 runs in the Eliminator 2 at the National Stadium on Sunday evening.

Qalandars will face arch-rivals Karachi Kings in the final on Tuesday evening. This will be the first time these two teams will feature in the final of the tournament.

Wiese took three crucial wickets of Adam Lyth, Ravi Bopara and Sohail Tanvir as Sultans were bowled out for 157 with five balls spare in their pursuit of 183.

Sultans were provided a solid start as Lyth smashed a 29-ball 50. The 33-year-old struck four fours and three sixes as he stitched a 47-run first wicket partnership with wicketkeeper-batsman Zeeshan Ashraf (12 off nine) and 33-run stand for the second wicket with his captain Shan Masood, who scored 27 runs from 22 balls.

Lyth, in red-hot form, was stopped in his tracks by Wiese in the ninth over. The dismissal dried the flow of runs and then sparked a collapse which saw Sultans lose five wickets for just 20 runs.

Late blows by Khushdil Shah, who hit two sixes and as many fours in his 19-ball 30, instilled a ray of hope amongst the Sultans’ fans. But, his dismissal on the third ball of the penultimate over – with still 28 runs left in the run chase –made the victory certain for Qalandars.

Pace bowlers took sultans’ all 10 wickets. Wiese and Haris Rauf took three wickets each, while Dilbar Hussain and Shaheen Shah Afridi shared the other four wickets equally.

Qalandars had posted an imposing 182 for six as their batsmen made the most of the powerplay overs and the death overs after they were asked to bat by Sultans’ captain Shan.

Qalandars openers Tamim Iqbal and Fakhar Zaman stitched a 46-run partnership in 4.5 overs before left-arm pacer Junaid Khan struck in his first over to dismiss the former.

Qalandars’ Bangladesh import Tamim made 20-ball 30, in which he struck five fours.

Sohail Akhtar, the Qalandars captain, followed the left-handed opener back in the pavilion on the penultimate ball of the powerplay as he was caught off Mohammad Ilyas’ bowling at deep square leg. Qalandars accumulated 54 runs at the loss of two wickets in six overs.

Fakhar made 46 off 36, studded with four fours and two sixes.

Shahid Afridi’s immaculate leg-spin bowling tightened the screws and yielded crucial wickets of Mohammad Hafeez (19 off 21) and Ben Dunk (three off three). Shahid returned the match figures of 4-0-18-2.

Following the dismissal of Dunk, Qalandars were tottering at 111 for five in 14.2 overs. But,Wiese’s scintillating knock at death not only pulled his team out of trouble but lifted them to a daunting total.

The South African all-rounder crunched five fours and three sixes in his 21-ball 48 not out, which helped Qalandars pile 67 runs in the last five overs.

Over the course of his undefeated stay at the wicket, Wiese partnered with Samit Patel (26 off 16, four fours) for a remarkable 59-run partnership from 5.2 overs.

Scores in brief:

Lahore Qalandars beat Multan Sultans by 25 runs

Lahore Qalandars 182-6, 20 overs (David Wiese 48 not out, Fakhar Zaman 46, Tamim Iqbal 30, Samit Patel 26; Shahid Afridi 2-18)

Multan Sultans 157 all out, 19.1 overs (Adam Lyth 50, Khushdil Shah 30, Shan Masood 27; David Wiese 3-27, Haris Rauf 3-30, Dilbar Hussain 2-29, Shaheen Shah Afridi 2-36)

Multan competed well but I maintained throughout the edition that they weren´t a team who were going to lift the trophy. They lacked power-hitters required in this format. the bowling options were good, but you need a good combination in both the departments.

The outfield has been lightening quick, isn´t it? A minor touch from the bat takes the ball all the way to the boundary!

Also, loving the talk with the player via the spider-cam. Unique. I don´t think that I´ve seen this before. Very interesting. Love it! It gives that feeling from the inside about the atmosphere in the grounds during the match.
