Lahoris are ignorant and stupid people, says Yasmin Rashid

Dr Rashid slammed citizens of Lahore for not taking necessary precautions to avoid coronavirus. She allegedly called them ignorant and held them responsible for spike in cases across the city.

Lahoris are weird creatures. For them, everything is a joke. They are so ignorant, they do not listen and don’t care. No other nation is more ignorant and stupid than Pakistanis, says Yasmin.

Moreover, she said efforts were being made to contain the virus and she would continue to update the media about the situation.

Dr Yasmin Rashid urged people to follow the government’s announced standard operating procedures to stop the spread of the virus and said the government has devised a ‘special strategy’ for areas of the provincial capital from where spikes in coronavirus cases have been observed.

Reiterating the need for precautionary measures, Rashid said the virus’ transmission can be reduced by up to 50pc if people wear masks.

Responding to the remarks of Dr Yasmin Rashid, Khawaja Imran Nazir bashed Dr Rashid for calling Lahoris ignorant.

He said it is because of government’s contradictory public messaging, a majority of Pakistanis still haven’t registered the danger.

He further asserted that it was the people of Lahore who made PTI’s Minar e Pakistan gathering a huge success.

Notably, it has been more than three months since Pakistan registered its first coronavirus case. But the government has yet to come out with a unified statement and an orderly policy to inform, educate, and protect the masses. Instead, the public tends to follow dangerously fatalist and superstitious approaches rather than paying heed to science and health experts.

The public disbelief has its roots in the government’s unclear statements from the very beginning. Pakistan’s central leadership, instead of chalking out a unified strategy, tried to score political mileage by coming out with the usual bravado.

One of the first public messages was an Urdu language phrase that translates as “fight instead of fearing coronavirus.” This provided enough ground for the common people to respond frivolously to the deadly virus.

Prime Minister Khan’s speeches downplaying the nature of the menace, and his government’s flipflopping announcements – a lockdown, a smart lockdown and finally no lockdown, all without flattening the COVID-19 curve — further deepened the disbelief among the people.

The prime minister’s statements partly reflect his personal views about the global pandemic and partly emanate from his contempt for his political rivals. When the government of Sindh, the only province run by the opposition Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), started amassing praise in the local and international media for its strict COVID-19 measures while Khan’s central government was still dragging its feet on imposing a lockdown, Khan was quoted as saying that it was the “elites who locked down the country.”

At the outset of the outbreak in December 2019, Khan’s government remained unresponsive as the novel coronavirus started taking its toll in China, Pakistan’s northeastern neighbor and close economic and political partner.

You can take a horse to ..............
People have to own their behaviour.

Their stupidity and ignorance was established when they voted for PTI two years ago.

No other nation is more ignorant and stupid than Pakistanis, says Yasmin.

Totally agree with her. But she forgot to include the incumbent government.

Their stupidity and ignorance was established when they voted for PTI two years ago.

It includes you also, because you also voted for PTI. Or that was just a face saving post when you predicted clean sweep by MMA :)))

People all across the world are refusing to follow social distancing. No need to single out Pakistanis.

You can see the frustration in her interview. 'Lazy' is however the correct term to describe us, not stupid. Our brains function as good as it can get on negativity and home economics.

This joker government is breaking all records of incompetence and pigheadedness.

They are only good at deflecting the blame on others. First they dumped all the blame PMLN and PPP, and now they are putting all the blame on the public because they do not want to admit that they goofed up big time.

We are 4 months into the pandemic in Pakistan, and the government is yet to decide whether the lockdown should be called ‘smart’ or ‘selective’.

Even during these times, Imran is focused on self-promotion with the Corona Tiger Force drama.

He is still suck in 1992 World Cup and has collected a bunch of jobless losers who were bored at home and gave them white shirts and the name Tiger Force. I am yet to see a single tiger in action.

Are the people careless and refuse to follow SOPs strictly? Absolutely, but does that mean that the government is powerless and cannot do anything? So the government would let people get infected and die because they don’t listen?

The biggest blunder by this government was easing the restrictions in the last week of Ramzan which is the busiest week of the year because people go crazy with Eid shopping. The government has facilitated the spread of the virus by easing restrictions at the worst possible time.

We have not seen any leadership by the government during this pandemic. At the ground level you cannot see their presence or any effects/impact of their leadership. None whatsoever.

Blaming the public is easy, but this joker government needs to take a good hard look in the mirror first.

tbh what she said is true. esp if you hear the detailed statement.

we have this inane urge to find and believe in conspiracy theories in every little thing. it drives me nuts

Yasmin Rashid is a very respectable woman. I totally appreciate her work for Pakistanis and actually I feel PTI has treated her very poorly.

This is not just in Lahore but all over Pakistan. Not only the careless and carefree attitude, there is also this misguided belief in conspiracy theories like yahoodi ki sazish and nefarious plans to stop Muslims from praying in mosques etc. This attitude is proving to be deadly as recent numbers are evidently showing.

Surely could have used better words
Doesn't sit well with me that a minister can call it's people stupid after all they did elect you, you are their "representative"

So were they stupid when they elected you?
Aren't you from them so what separates them from you?

I have to agree with her. Who keeps voting for idiots like Sharif bros for decades. But she cannot use these words in public, she is not Trump.

Pakistanis loving speaking in generalities about other Pakistanis but they don't realize they're including themselves.

They actually voted for PMLN. Results were manipulated by the establishment. Surely you knew that? I always thought u were a well informed poster.

What Yasmin said is 100% right. Everybody needs a whip if i am being honest.

It’s very easy to blame the government. But this situation is not just in Pakistan, it’s the world over.

Either you are rich enough to put the country on total lockdown and then bailout all the businesses and provide food and sustenance to all your citizens (and not one country in this world is capable of doing all that at the moment)
Or
You start opening up gradually hoping that people will be intelligent enough to protect themselves

And the latter option is what is being taken up by most countries. I think where we are failing is our own people struggling to be cautious enough.

Excuse me do you guys even bother to watch other countries before talking here in india not a single person is following social distancing at the same time when the cases are rising in india normal days are coming back with each passing day
We have been told schools gonna reopen in mid August
Malls shops everything is normal i just ate momos at a restaurant so better not only involve pakistan

Pakistan is a jaahil nation. It will take many many years to take us out of the almost irreversible mess we have created.
Until the people of Pakistan decide to change nothing will happen.

I think that deep down it all comes down to education. We have made education synonymous with pain and misery - at least for those who get the education. We have failed to develop conscious human being. They aren’t conscious about their environment and because a lot of people don’t get educated at all, they don’t have an alternative world of literature and research to consume their time. So what do they do? They bully each other and put their faith on ill-informed people and rumour churning machines.

Another issue is with the infrastructure. We don’t have any recreational spaces. The country is run by people who are mostly interested in landgrabing opportunities and developing those lands into gated communities. It’s an alternative for them to avoid doing their actual jobs in planning sector. People living in slums aren’t going to afford houses in ‘state of the art’ housing projects. They aren’t going to utilise the services that comes with living in such areas i.e. the schools, colleges, recreational spaces and whatnot. It fills people with rage.

Our cities are planned horizontally, they expand their areas as the population grow. Our agricultural lands get taken over by the city authorities due to their demand for more lands in the larger project of urbanisation. It’s almost impossible for a country with such limited resources to develop healthcare and educational infrastructure (btw they feed into each other) with such unregulated growth. And because our leaders are uneducated, or at the very least unqualified, they start blame games to protect themselves from accountability and their own insecurities.

Slugfest in NA over calling nation ‘jahil’

Days after Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid called the people of Lahore “jahil” (ignorant/illiterate) for not adhering to the SOPs, causing a spike in Covid-19 cases, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Andleeb Abbas on Monday used the same word for the entire nation on the floor of the National Assembly.

In fact, Andleeb went ahead and used another word for the entire nation, beemar (sick).

“They [opposition] wanted to leave behind a jahil and beemar nation while their children, daughters-in-law and parents go abroad,” Andleeb said, citing that the literacy rate dropped to 58% from 60% in 2017 when the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was in power.

“They have destroyed health, education and human development,” she said, claiming that the PTI-led government allocated the highest budget for education.

Andleeb said that Pakistan’s health ranking was the lowest during the PML-N’s tenure and its health system was compared with countries like Congo because a mother was dying every 20 minutes and a child every minute.

“Development without human development is inhuman development,” she said, adding that the mortality rate during labour was the highest during “PML-N’s Pakistan”.

“The PTI government has allocated a budget for five mother and child hospitals for the first time in the last 72 years.”

Andleeb surprised the parliamentarians when she said, “The economy is stable despite Covid-19.”

She added that the PTI government reduced the trade deficit from Rs17 billion to Rs3 billion. On FBR, she said, the government added 2.5 million tax payers and increased revenue by 17%. “People have started trusting us,” she said.

PPP leader and former foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar responded to Andleeb’s comments about the nation, saying: “Stop calling this nation jahil.”

“First,” the PPP leader said, “You spread Jahalat [ignorance] by saying its [Covid-19] just a flu; it will go away; no need to wear masks; it won’t come or won’t survive the heat in Pakistan.”

Khar added, “You are the ones spreading Jahalat.

“Is it a criterion for becoming a member of PTI that one should forget everything about mathematics, history, and geography?” Khar questioned.

On Andleeb’s claim that the PML-N ruled the country for 35 years, Khar said that including the quasi-democratic governments since 1985, the total number of years reaches to roughly 26 while the number reaches to 19 years excluding the quasi-democratic governments.

“At least, just get the facts right,” Khar said, adding that she takes the floor of the house extremely serious because when the parliamentarians take the floor for granted and give misstatements, they damage the credibility of every member of the house. “This is ridiculous,” she said.

On the budget, Khar said that the opinion of the international lending institutions is that all targets were not met. Normally, Khar said, targets are missed by 0.5 or 0.3% but the government has missed the targets by 50%. “It was an unrealistic budget then and it continues to be an unrealistic budget,” she said.

“I’m 42 today. I have never been this disappointed and pessimistic about the future of this country,” Khar said.

She said that the whole focus of the PTI is on re-polishing and representing things on social media just to fool the people and keep telling them that “Imran Khan is so handsome; he is so good; he is so popular; he won us the 1992 World Cup; yes he did”.

“He was a great cricketer,” she said. “We all believe that but honestly speaking his two-year record as the prime minister really doesn’t give this country much to celebrate about.”Khar said that they take away hope when they do petty politics while sitting on the treasury benches.

She explained how the PPP government was giving hope to the people of Pakistan.

“PPP laid the foundation of the social safety net by introducing BISP, which has now been repackaged as Ehsaas programme. Then comes the 18th Amendment to the Constitution which your prime minister merrily said is the worst thing that happened to this country.”

Correcting a historical wrong, she said, the PPP initiated the Agaz-e-Huqooq-e-Pakistan. “What are you doing; you are increasing the historical wrongs.”

One thing shows how this government creates problems and tries to fool the people and that happened only three days ago: India became a member a non-permanent member of the UNSC by securing 184 votes out of the total 192 votes.

“Your foreign minister instead of saying that we call upon the world as it happens; Pakistan also chose to vote for them,” Khar alleged. “Are the circumstances not different; they have re-annexed Kashmir for heaven’s sake.”

Khar said that Modi, for whom PTI would pray that Kashmir issue would be resolved if he becomes PM, has re-annexed Kashmir, deprived people of even the quasi-normal life and “you are still voting for India”.

Then, she said, the foreign minister claimed that India is isolated on the world stage despite the fact that it took 184 votes out of the total 192. “Maybe, the meaning of the word ‘isolated’ has been redefined in the dictionary,” Khar said, adding that the minister should have called out the world and said that “Pakistan is disappointed in the world community for voting for a country which has gone against every principal of human rights”.

“This is how you lose credibility Mr Speaker because reality is something else and you are trying to create a fictitious world and sell it to people as if they are fools,” Khar continued. “You are questioning their intellect; you are questioning their wisdom and you continue to call them Jahil when you are the ones who brought back the Jahalat period in Pakistan.”

Meanwhile, PML-N’s Barjees Tahir drew the house’s attention towards the difference between revenue and total expenditures for the fiscal year, asking how will the government meet its expenses and fill the gap.

In the past, Tahir said, the members of the treasury benches would say that the people do not give taxes to the corrupt but they themselves couldn’t achieve their revenue target last year. The PTI-led government would call the opposition parties corrupt; tell that they would collect taxes in abundance and “exploited people just to come to power”.

“We pray that they may complete their five years. Haven’t you seen the opposition; it doesn’t take interest in moving a no-confidence motion. Why should we do so; they should get time,” Tahir said. He subsequently drew the speaker’s attention towards the empty chair of the prime minister, saying: “Have we seen him in his chair; we are seeing his interest and you are also watching what he is delivering right now.”

On the massive increase in gas and electricity bills, Tahir said that the government’s promise of returning the excessive charges to the people was not fulfilled. “Circular debt was Rs1,100 billion. With their hard work, it has now ballooned to Rs2,000 billion,” he said.

He said that the government claims that the budget was tax-free, adding that it has increased 73% levy on petrol alone. “One litre costs Rs32 and they charge Rs75 for it, which is Rs43 more than the total production cost. This way, they have gulped Rs200 billion.”

On his suggestion that the Dimar-Bhasha dam should be built on a war footing, NA Speaker Asad Qaiser appreciated and endorsed the suggestion.

PTI’s Zain Hussain Qureshi said he has yet to receive any recommendation from the opposition benches since the general debate started.

PPP’s Abdul Qadir Patel told the house, especially Andleeb, that the highest child mortality rate was in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, adding that it was higher than in Thar, Sindh.

To the government’s continuous stance that the previous governments destroyed everything in Pakistan, Patel listed down the things that have damaged Pakistan: “Afghan war, Ziaul Haq, Bhutto’s hanging, non-party elections, dismissal of PPP government by Leghari, Musharraf’s coup, 1992’s World Cup and election 2018.”

When the nations walls are littered with cures for mardana kamzori, when nations educated class (doctors, professors, teachers) are clueless and oblivious to the world around them and can’t be differentiated from the so called religious class, when the focus is more on so-called religious ilm than science and tech, rather than being in equal measures, what can you expect?

We have all seen hundreds of videos since January/February of this year, made by doctors and scientists and experts from Pakistan floating absurd theories about COVID-19, pedaling conspiracies, believing it to be a hoax.

To phir yehi hona hai.. nobody wanted to be prepared.. hamari immunity buhat strong hai, covid 19 alcohol peeney waalon or souwar khaney waalon ko hota hai, hamein kuch nahi ho ha.. Sana makki ka qahwa pee lein, kacha payaz pichwarey mein le lein.. corona theek ho jaye ga..

Right now our hospitals are running out of beds, there are not enough ventilators and the ones we have, seems like nobody knows how to operate them.. the hospitals and doctors are now trying all sorts of ridiculous treatments such as steroid injections and what not and that’s why there are people claiming they are killing you with injections.. because these treatments are not founded in science and validated by the scientific community..

I feel embarrassed at some of the things our nation does!

LOL, I remember such stuff seeing in my childhood on walls. Now a days luckily such things have become very less.

I have great respect for her but this statement has really disappointed me. What she said about the ignorance of the people is right but why is the govt acting as if this came as a big shock to them? Anyone who has lived in Pakistan for any length of time knows the mentality of the public. She is not a tourist who is surprised and shocked by how people behave in a third world country. What was the govt expecting? That they will make a statement requesting people to follow sops and everyone will suddenly become a model citizen?

Policies are based on ground realities, not on how people should behave in an ideal world. We are one of the few countries in the world where polio hasn’t been eradicated despite years of awareness and vaccination programs and the govt is surprised that people are not being careful about a virus that didn’t even exist a few months ago. Is the govt really this naïve that they made policies based on the assumption that people will act responsibly? They keep telling us that Pakistan has different ground realities than Europe or America and so must have different policies but at the same time expect Pakistanis to behave like people from first world countries. And if we are being honest, most educated people from first world countries also did't behave responsibly until they were forced by strict measures.

This is the most disgusting hostage taking by these criminals, amongst the 10,000 taken by the Junta. She is a cancer sufferer and she is being blackmailed to turn against IK and made to suffer. She is also be punished for showing up Nani as she kicked her out Med School in the early 90s for using Daddy to get in.

Yasmin Rashid slays govt for pushing the poor to the wall

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Yasmin Rashid has criticised the governance of the incumbent government, asserting Form-47 government is trying to make the poor poorer.

Speaking to the media after her appearance in the anti-terrorism court (ATC), she said according to the State Bank of Pakistan, the debts have increased in the last two years.

The revenue generated from the budget will be paid in interest on loans, she added.

She criticised the loan from global lenders, stating Pakistan was going to more destruction.

She insisted that her party leaders were being subjected to oppression, and new cases were being registered against them.

PTI women leaders Aliya Hamza and Sanam Javed were handed over in judicial remand. She said this is the first time in the history of Pakistan that doctors were being handcuffed, referring to crack down on young doctors.

She lashed out at the government, saying taxes had burdened the common man and Inflation and unemployment increased poverty and farmers had been ruined.

IA she gets well but if she doesn't every single person involved in her kidnapping and torture, because that's what it is, will have to serve life in prison.

This regime has done nothing but oppress people without any proof. One of the worst govs atm. Putting people in jail for nothing and openly admitting that if they get free from this case, we will put them behind bars in some other case. Pathetic.

Yasmin flays info minister for ‘lies’ at UN moot

Berating Federal Law, Justice and Human Rights Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar for giving wrong information at the 58th session of UN Human Rights Council, PTI Punjab incarcerated President Dr Yasmin Rashid has demanded that the amended PECA Act should be invoked against him for ‘fake news’.

In a letter written from jail on Monday, Dr Rashid criticized Mr Tarar for saying that Pakistan was committed to upholding human rights and claiming that the 26th Amendment had been passed to protect human rights. She asked whether suppression and oppression being practised against the opposition since 2022 was a part of your human rights campaign.

The PTI Punjab president explained nine points, highlighting atrocities being committed against people of Pakistan. She wrote the concept of ‘Chaddar and Char Diwari’ was no longer valid as police had barged into homes without warrants and harassed women and children. She said women were dragged by hair in the streets, battered and imprisoned for protests.

Despite all atrocities, she said, the PTI won the general election with the largest number of seats but the government was formed by the PML-N and PPP in connivance with the election commission. She said the election tribunals did not respond to the petitions by the Form-47 affectees.

Ms Rashid alleged that the sitting government ordered the killing of the PTI workers in Islamabad on Nov 26 last year and the law minister had the audacity to claim that there were no human rights violations. She said the political workers had been tried and punished by the army courts and more than 5,000 workers had been languishing in jails since the government came while Imran Khan was imprisoned along with his spouse on frivolous charges.

Dr Rashid pointed out that she, along with her colleagues, had been incarcerated for the last 22 months despite the fact that they were not convicted and not given bails. She added that journalists had been harassed for speaking truth and put off air.
