10.Alan Border at Lahore in 1980
2 150's on a wicket that turned sharply.Resembled a surgeon performing an operation.

11.Brian Lara 277 at Sydney in 1992-93
In terms of domination reached zones rarely transcended ,on the front and back foot.

12.Gary Sobers 132 in 1960-61 test at Brisbane

2. Rishabh Pant, Brisbane 2021
3. Graeme Smith, Edgabaston 2008

Agree with 1st 2. Great choices.Where would you rank them?

Good list.
any reason no spinners qualify here?

Two glaring misses -

1. Shakib - a 10 for (5+5) and 87+5 runs vs AUS
2. Wasim - 11 for and probably 60+ runs at Antigua

Also, need to check Vinnu Mankad’s best performances.

I don’t understand why there is no mention of the 166 by Duminy against Australia in Melbourne 2008. That was one of the most iconic innings of the modern age.

Did not bowl as a left hander

Top pick. Also, Kusal Perera.

My revised list as I glaringly left out Kusal Perera,Ben Stokes and Rishab Pant.Sorry they eluded me,forgetting they were left -handers.

Lara 153 is like The Godfather part 1 - every time I watch it my appreciation of the artist (be it Lara with the bat or Brando’s acting) at work increases, as there’s something else that you notice about the repertoire of skills on display that you didn’t notice the last time.

Any views on my revised rankings?

What about the all-round efforts of Wasim and Davidson? Tusal Perera?

In fact, just to add to my previous post -
I watch Lara’s 153 on YouTube about once a year and have been doing so for nearly two decades and every time I feel that is the best cricket I have watched that calendar year.. todays players just don’t come remotely close to that level of artistry and flamboyance. Anyone else feel the same ?

Wasim Akram was a genius also no doubt. For me, it was a privilege as a cricket fan to see Brian Lara and Wasim Akram play in the same era , both geniuses and artists in full flow.

Wasim’s performances with the ball v Aus in 1989 were exceptional also , but in all honesty nothing in cricket can compare to what Lara did with the bat against Australia a decade later in 1999. That was pure magic and cricket for me has never been the same before or after that experience.

A confession here - even as a Pakistan fan, when we played against West Indies I was always hoping WI would be 150 all out but Lara would score 100 out of that total :-)

We could not agree more on Lara or Wasim.Great post. For pure talent,Lara was simply supreme and at his best he did not have an equal.Any comment on my list and rankings otherwise?

In such lists, all rounders will always roost, because they come with a duel impact. I have mentioned Shakib, I believe Vaas also has a century & 5for, Wasim has a 257, Sanath has 254 & 4 for; Shakib has a 8for & hundred, a double hundred & 4 for …..

But the two stand out performance that I’ll put on top & I don’t know which one to put as one was both against those ruthless Aussies -

Wasim at MCG and BC at Barbados.

That Test at MCG, I had a 3 hour recording (unfortunately in old VCR tape, can’t play anymore), and I don’t think I have ever seen such skills in my memory - live or archived. Most common people don’t understand the skills of bowling & thought process of setting up a batsmen, hence on papers it’s just 11 wickets for like 160 runs, but I wish I could write a book on that Test!!!

And, Brian’s 153 cost me a fraction of my CGPA - I had to drop a mechanics term test next morning ……

Good ones.

Graeme Smith's 100 during 414 run chase. Laid the platform.

Rangana Herath's 5 fer in Centurion 2011. Sanga scored a brilliant 100 in that match as well.
There could easily be many of Herath's games in here.

Jayasuria's double against England in England 1998 or 97?

Sangakkara's 287 or the century in 2014 that got them a test series win.

Daniel Vettori's plenty of all round performances come to mind.

Mike Hussey 138 against Pak in Sydney 2010

Alastair Cook's 190 odd in India 2012.
Cook's performance in Ashes 2010 had a few great performances too.

Andy Flower had a few great knocks as well.

Ryan Sidebottom 7/47 against NZ.

Lara against Aussies has to be the best.

He also had an insane series in SL against peak Murali...which also deserves a mention in above list.

Hayden's exploits in India in 2001 should also be included in the list

Lol, seriously?

But to be honest, it was a once in a lifetime experience as well.

Honorable mention:

Sir Garfield Sobers's 254 vs Australia.

Dominated Dennis Lillee on that day.
