Or Pakistan's nightmare in the 2nd T20I - one who played a key role in the 19 run drubbing in Harare.

On Friday, Luke Jongwe, the right-arm pacer, helped Zimbabwe beat Pakistan for the first time in T20I cricket in their 16th attempt, while also recording their first T20I win at home since 2016.

Chasing a low target of 119 in Harare, Babar Azam’s side succumbed to an upset with a 19-run loss as Luke Jongwe, who was making a comeback into the national side after 5 years, returned with his career-best figures of 4/18 halting not allowing Pakistan to cross even the 100-run mark.

Opener Tinashe Kamunhukamwe top-scored for Zimbabwe with 34 runs while no one else in the line-up crossed 20 as the hosts, who were already trailing 1-0, staring at another defeat with just 118 on the board.

In reply, Babar Azam led the chase scoring 41 runs and the chase seemed on its course at 78/3. Until Pakistan did a Pakistan: they collapsed. The visitors lost 7 wickets for 21 runs in 26 balls and the hosts drew the series with the decider on Sunday.

Luke Jongwe, who registered 2/24 in the first match, was the Man of the Match in the second for his superb bowling, especially in the death overs. He dismissed Mohammad Rizwan, the player of the match of the first game, off his first ball on Friday in the 6th over.

The pacer was taken off the attack. He returned to bowl three straight overs, 16th, 18th, and 20th, in the death, giving away just 13 runs in those three overs, and picking three more wickets.

Luke Jongwe missed the last 5 years of international cricket for Zimbabwe because of the eye and head injuries. However, the injuries didn’t discourage him from dreaming big – not only he made a comeback to the Zimbabwe side but also helped his team make history.

Another of his dream is to feature in the Indian Premier League – a wish he expressed in a tweet four years ago, which now, courtesy of the netizens is going viral.

Extremely humble in the post game interview:

"I just want to thank Almighty for this game and my teammates as well as coach. It got difficult to bat later on in the innings and I just kept varying the pace, something that I'm good at. (On his celebration) I tried copying it from Shamsi of South Africa."

Dream big.

Good luck to the lad.

These guys don't have much when it comes to sponsors etc. Wish them all the best.

Funny how playing in the IPL has become what players aim for nowadays. But I guess everyone deserves to dream.

shaz619 Another unknown rookie put over by Pakistan. Who says Ric Flair was the best at putting guys over?

Playing in IPL is new ultimate for players, as someone said before its mini world cup for players who play in it..

Can't deny where things are going. People often say test cricket is dying. The way I see it, its international cricket that's on course to lose out to franchise cricket.

Pakistan is very giving, touring the whole world and leaving territories far better then how they found them :yk Luke Jongwe may get main event one day

Dont think so. Its only IPL that players all over the world play other times i dont see anyone avoiding national duty to play PSL or BBL or CPL. Butler, Rabada, Williamson, Smith etc wouldn't play other leagues when their countries are playing international cricket. Its usually t20 specialists like Christian, Russell, Gayle etc who dont play for their country that play all the leagues. So not sure your argument holds much water.

In old days national players used to dream of captaining their country or winning a world cup or some other big honor for the country, now-------------> playing in IPL has become the ultimate dream of a budding cricketer.

You're missing the point. T20 leagues have a bigger pull and the potential of attracting a larger casual audience within their country. This is because T20 leagues have built-in narratives that attract average people who may not necessarily be interested in cricket: Mumbai vs. Chennai, Karachi vs. Lahore and so on. These people are watching because they want their home city or favorite team to win, they might be watching it because they thought it would be a fun thing to do with their friends on a weekend. And its unlikely that they will be able to tell you Andre Russell's T20 strike-rate.

International cricket is prominent among people who are fans of the sport. That's not true for T20 leagues. I know of so many people who don't care about Pakistan playing unless its in ICC tournaments but deeply interested in PSL.

And while IPL may have the biggest viewership and may be the biggest T20 league, fact is IPL happens for only two months. Other leagues like CPL and PSL have been very successful in regards to viewership and fanfare and there's nothing to say they can't be very big in their own right even if they never manage to become behemoths like the IPL.

Unfortunately, Marcus North and Nathan Hauritz could only be mid-carders despite the rub Pakistan gave them.

Let's hope Luke Jongwe becomes main-eventer :ashwin

Well, with the upcoming expansion to 10 teams and a possible 5 overseas players in playing XI, there are more opportunities upcoming for players.

As is often said by players....IPL is life changing!

Hahahh even that is too much of a long shot for Luke Jongwe. I can't recall too many players from Zimbabwe ever playing IPL.

If Zimbabwe beating us will lead to him (a player from a non-affluent country, with a terrible cricket board) getting a good payday, I'm all for it.

Pakistan's Kryptonite?

Taken wicket of Sharjeel Khan so far in the 3rd T20I

Anyway he is not good enough to even get a BPL contract let alone IPL, PSL, BBL. Should dream on improving the Zimbabwean National Team before it vanishes into complete obscurity

Congrats on the lad for his maiden test call up.

Anyone know the speeds of the bowlers? I know Muzrabaani is probably their fastest but would be nice to know.

Can assure you no zim or pak player will get into IPL Baba & Rizwan blatantly play for there averages.. maybe Hassan Ali & Muzarabani at a stretch!!

Last ball of yesterday’s innings casually knocks it for 2 nice little not out

Babar will be a good backup player for almost every franchise. You won’t find better batsmen than him to warm the bench.

The lad is just being realistic by taking it one step at a time. Once he gets into the IPL, he can dream big and go for the pinnacle in a PSL contract.

Unfortunately Tino Mawoyo, Tendai Chatara and Binura Fernando couldn't get themselves over. Kyle Abbott decided to go to the Indies.

I feel for Zim players. Loads of talent with extremely poor wages and uncertain future due to the mismanagement of their board.
Sean Williams, Brendan Taylor, Graeme Cremer, Ray Price, Andy Blignaut could have been far bigger names had they played for a top 8 cricket countries.

All of those guys already play for top 8 teams with only Sam Curran really making any kind of inroads in international cricket or IPL. Even then, Sam Curran will have severe limitations given he's just 5'9" and bowls 125-130 clicks.

Test debut for him against Pakistan in the 2nd Test - 5 overs for 11 runs, not bad so far.

Maiden Test wicket for Luke Jongwe. Hassan Ali is his 1st victim in test cricket.
