West Indies all-rounder Marlon Samuels has been reported for bowling with a suspect action for the third time in his career.

The part-time off-spinner was cited after his side's first Test defeat by Sri Lanka in Galle on Saturday.

The 34-year-old Jamaican will now need to undergo testing within 14 days.

Samuels was suspended from bowling in 2008 as a result of his action and has been banned from bowling quicker deliveries since 2013.

The latter ban came as a result of him being reported to the International Cricket Council (ICC) during a Test in India, but this did not preclude him from bowling his standard off-break deliveries.

After his original ban in February 2008, he continued to play as a specialist batsman but did not resume bowling in internationals until September 2011, having served an unrelated two-year suspension from cricket between May 2008 and May 2010 for passing information to a bookmaker.

But but but harbhajan ashwin and any other Indian off-spinner.

It was coming. He should quit bowling, he doesn't know what what "bowling' means.

He has the worst bowling action ever and is nothing impressive as a bowler. Why do the WI captains bowl him is beyond me?

Marlon Samuels suspended from bowling in international cricket following assessment

Report revealed that all-rounder's elbow extension exceeded 15 degrees while bowling

West Indies all-rounder Marlon Samuels has been banned from bowling in international cricket for 12 months following an independent assessment of his action, which took place at the ICC’s accredited testing centre in Brisbane earlier this month.

The 34-year-old was assessed after the legality of his bowling action came under question by the match officials during West Indies’ first Test defeat against Sri Lanka in Galle (14-17 October).

Following the match, Samuels was reported by the match officials pursuant to the ICC Regulations for the Review of Bowlers Reported with Suspected Illegal Bowling Actions and subsequently underwent the independent assessment in Brisbane in accordance with the Regulations.

The assessment revealed that Samuel’s elbow extension exceeded 15 degrees while bowling and, thus, he employed an illegal bowling action.

Samuels was originally suspended from bowling his faster deliveries in international cricket in December 2013.

As this report constitutes the player’s second suspension within a two-year period, he is now automatically suspended from bowling in international cricket for a 12-month period.

Samuels is entitled to appeal any procedural aspect of the Independent Assessment that has led to this automatic suspension. However, only after the expiry of this one-year period will he be entitled to approach the ICC for a re-assessment of his bowling action.

So - the International Cricket Council continues it's hunt down on the off spinners.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) today announced that following remedial work and reassessment, the bowling action of West Indies Marlon Samuels has been found to be legal, and the player can now resume bowling in international cricket.

On 29 January, Samuels underwent a reassessment of his bowling action at the National Cricket Performance Centre in Loughborough where it was revealed that the amount of elbow extension for all his off-spin deliveries was within the 15-degree level of tolerance permitted under the ICC regulations for the review of bowlers reported with suspected illegal bowling actions.

The umpires are still at liberty to report Samuels if they believe he is displaying a suspect action and not reproducing the legal action from the reassessment. To assist the umpires, they will be provided with images and video footage of the bowler’s remodeled legal bowling action.

If Samuels is reported again, he will be required to undertake further analysis of his bowling action at an ICC accredited testing centre.

Samuels was last reported during the Galle Test against Sri Lanka (19 October 2015) and was subsequently suspended for 12 months in December 2015 after an independent assessment revealed he had employed an illegal bowling action for the second time in 24 months.
