I have no doubt that it is the greatest T20 innings I have ever seen, second only to Hussey's efforts against a similarly strong bowling attack of Pakistan in the Semis.

However, the situation, the stage, the pitch...and to play the way he played. Wow.

Struggling to see how anybody could beat this.

I also think that Hussey's innings was better but Samuels' is a close second. Nothing else come close.

I agree Saqib. It is a matter of personal opinion but Marlon Samuels´ was indeed the greatest T20I innings ever in my opinion.

stupid thread.
Obviously afridi's semi final innings against lanka was the best :afridi

I think it was for me, especially because I saw so many other batsmen struggle on that pitch. In that match only two other people even managed to hit a six, Marlon hit six sixes!

Also should be an inspiration to someone like Amir. Was banned for two years and came back strong.

it was better than hussey, hussey had cameron white who was going great and set a platform, marlon didn't

I think bangladesh people should learn some cricket , i have seen many times bangladesh people just dont like anyone instead of only minnows players of bangladesh , come on grow up and appericate good players

Well like leatherface posted, India were on the verge of exit after a poor start vs SA, Rohit played a magnificent innings. Which not only won India the game but knocked out SA.

Samuels' may be a contender for the best innings 'under-pressure' but I think Gayle's century in 1st t20 world cup is still the best, he smoked the likes of Pollock, Ntini with ease.

remember what happened in return, that was a flat pitch

i just dont think that this was the best innings, for a final yes. but overall i dont think so.

i think the innings played gayle in the 1st T20 WC was the best so far

Samuels innings can't be judged through stats or from watching highlights. In order to know how good that innings was you have got to see every ball of that match. Such a tough pitch, west indies 30 odd after 10, gayle out, charles out. Sri Lanka on top with 35,000 supporting them shows how mentally tough samuels is. That innings was soo special. Other innings played by hussey and gayle can only be second to that because others also scored heavily on those wickets. No one was able to match samuels.

Yes,no one else has changed fortunes from such a hopeless and loosing situation...And that too in the final of World Cup...Indeed,he did that single handed..

But Saqib ,i have to say that you post some very good threads..

It was. The way he clubbed Malinga for three sixes in an over changed the game on its head.

I've not seen anyone smash malinga like that before, the bowl flew of his bat, he is quickly becoming one of my favorite players to watch. Vastly matured cricketer.

It has to the BEST T20 innings in the T20 short history

He was the main architect behind Windies Win

For God Sake please dont bring any IPL innings in this THread :)

Hussy Innings won Aussies the Semi but i think the kind of pressure and brutality we saw from
Samuel it was just amzazing to watch

It probably was the best. The pressure of the event. The crowd against you. Windies in a losing position. And Samuels just teed off and it was the difference.

One of the best... you have to take into account that this was the Final and it was against a very good team who had beaten them earlier in the tournament. One of the greatest knocks in terms of context, but overall it's probably only top 10.

Best of the tournament and on par with Hussey's innings against us as all-time great .

Although.... Afridi's innings in the semi's was more * breath-taking * ;P .

Samuels' may be a contender for the best innings 'under-pressure' but I think Gayle's century in 1st t20 world cup is still the best, he smoked the likes of Pollock, Ntini with ease.

Well any innings played under pressure would be vastly superior to an innings that wasn't, imo.

Cheers.

Wrt Hussey's - I guess the scoreboard pressure would have been higher for him which Samuels didn't have.

But the match situation and the fact it was the Final against the homeside - Samuels takes this.

Hussey inning was amazing. Samuels is close second. From Indian side it has to Yuvraj Singh's knock where he made 50 in 12 balls.

and this was against kenya in a warmup match? perhaps we should consider salman butt's 92 off 25 balls in club cricket. :butt :amir

absolutely, big game with your side in tatters and you produce a knock and a half like that...magnificent batting from Samuels.

Definitely for me. West indies were going nowhere - they were 30/2 after 10 overs.

And this was a Final against the Home team as well. He single handily changed the course of the match.

Mike Hussey was the best innings but this is now 2nd to Samuels.

Certainly up there, 11 years ago this guy hit a stunning hundred against India in India off just 70 deliveries, I still remember it. Hasn't done much in these 11 years but good to see him finally getting into groove. He's been brilliant recently, not that it was a one off. Hope he keeps doing the good work and winning matches for West Indies.

Apart from Hussey and Samuels's second inning efforts, I'd also nominate Yuvraj's 30 ball 70 against Aussies in 2007 semi-final. Not a tough pitch or pressure of chasing but that was heck of a stunning knock. Blasted Aussies to all corners in the big match.

I would like to nominate Misbah innings against India in 2007 T20 World Cup.

From one of the best 18+ months ago to one of the worst today.

If an Indian or Pakistani player had played like Marlon has today people would be wondering if the player was playing for their team or playing for their dodgy mates in Mumbai. What a disgrace.

Has been horribly out of form all tournament. Windies selectors deserve the criticism here.

The guy didn't cross 100 strike rate all tournament. Why send him in before the likes of Sammy etc. Esp when your team bats all the wa down to Narine

Has looked woeful in this tournament he is another Windies hack cant rotate the strike just relies on hitting boundaries when that doesnt work ends up being a burden on the team

This is what you call a clutch player.

Samuels is right up there with Dhoni, Kohli, Bevan IMO as a big occasion clutch player.

Another motm in a big match.

Innings vs SA shouldn't be rated highly in world cups( any format) as you know SA will choke themselves. Having said that, I rate Yuvi's semifinal knock in t20 WC as the best t20 WC knock.

No Samuels knock in 2012 WC final is best...it came in a bowling pitch were everyone else struggled.

Four years on, I still think it's arguably the greatest ever T20 innings. The way he weathered the storm earlier on his innings on a real tough wicket and then later, the way he manhandled the opposition's best bowler who also happened to be amongst the best in the world, was something extra-ordinary.

Limited player, but punches above his weight.

Will never forget how he straight up nonchalantly flicked Malinga's searing 140+ kph yorker through the legside and into the stands for six. Don't think I've seen a yorker get owned like that in a match after that, let alone in a final.

Opposition wasn't South Africa. So yes, that knock can be argued as the best one.

Samuels doing it again for Windies. Would he be able to take them over the line this time.

Samuels had a key role to play. Talk about playing crucial innings in two World T20 finals.

Magnificent again from Samuels even though this time he needed Brathwaite :)

Biggest clutch player.

Does meh in groupie stages, clicks on in knock outs.

Samuels didnt win this. Brawaith did. 19 runs of the final over is a terrible equation, hitting 4 sixes of 4 balls under extreme pressure is unreal.

What a player. Take a bow son. 2 WC finals and he delivers in both of them. That is what you call a clutch player ladies and gentleman. Also like Samuels from day 1. Very fine player.

Yes but Samuels did the dirty work of even getting WI to that stage, had he not played his role WI would've been bowled out or would've needed more than 19 an over.

True. But Samuels kept the game till the end.

He didn't calculate properly or he couldn't execute his plans but still he kept them in the game till the very end for magic to happen.

So deserves credit.

That too Wt20 finals.

played a great knock today. stepped up on the big stage

Samuels took it to the last over where it was manageable for Brathwaite.
If not for that crucial partnership with Bravo and ticking of boundaries at crucial times till the 19th over, Windies were gone and out.

I want to know opinion of those spiritual role models and angels who are against second chance.

Look at what Marlon Samuels has done twice.

Brathwaite finished the game but would he have played this innings if samuels hadn't took windies to the door? A great effort from both players and both innings needed each other to win the match.

Best T20 knock ever is still that 2012 final. This is the 2nf best. Take a bow Legend Samuels

Seems like SAmuels read your Kohli thread :srini

The only reason they even got within striking distance was because of Samuels. Without him, West Indies were dead.

Fantastic knock.

He helped setup the win.

But I think Carlos will steal the limelight for his heroics at the end.

Was a very good inns but certainly not the greatest! but hes certainly the guy for big occasions.

I don't even think it's the greatest innings of the two batsmen left at the end.

Brathwaite's 34 (10) is better on any reasonable metric.

What did he say about Warne in the presentation? It was really awkward. Somewhat akin to "Talk Viv, nah" :viv
