KARACHI: It has emerged on Friday that meat of donkeys and dogs is being sold in Karachi as police in a raid recovered more than 800 hides of the haram animals.

Police said an Afghani man, Abdul Hameed, and another man were arrested during a raid conducted on a tip-off at a godown in Korangi Industrial Area. The culprits had concealed hides of dogs and donkeys stuffed in over 200 sacks, they said.

“The hides are collected from Pakistan and Afghanistan and then sent to China,” said the police.

Police said initial reports suggested that meat of the beasts was sold to different hotels in Karachi including those in posh areas.

They said further interrogation from the suspects was underway.

Last year custom officials and police seized over 5,000 hides in Karachi, allegedly worth Rs118.4 million in international market.

Disgusting. How do we know such things don't happen in developed countries??. This thought has often crossed my mind. Wish I was a vegetarian:inzi They probably sell human meat in Pak as well.

This is what these Karachiites get for spewing venom about Lahore and Punjab. :))

Very satisfying to know the posh people were fed dog meat..the animal they value more than even humans.

Lol some people think this only happens in Karachi and not the rest of Pakistan, as if Lahore and other cities are located in Switzerland and France :)))

Too many checks and balances (across multiple levels) for it to happen on a grand scale in developed countries. I know someone who does the job and they're incredibly strict on meat vendors.

You have to source all meat from specific pre-approved suppliers. And they run surprise spot checks to make sure meat is only purchased from those suppliers.

It's a one-strike system so you lose your business and in this case, go to prison for selling dog meat.

Lol Lahore specialises in donkey meat cuisine so it's funny to see Abdul having a laugh at this.

Mislabelling of meat happens everywhere.
