Look at the number of years Zaheer Abbas/:viv/Greenidge took to play these matches, that's why peoples rate Zaheer Abbas's ODI career despite "only" having 2000-odd runs because for the era it was "enough".

Amla will be the fastest to 4000 in ODIs, this is his 81st innings, Viv Richards did it in 88 inns, Kohli 93, Greenidge 96 .. fastest South African at present AB - 103 inns

Mighty Hash gets there.

What an achievement. Yet he always goes unnoticed in terms of his contributions.

Lots of Indian flags missing in this thread for some odd reason. Even though this is a match involving India.

Shouldve seen some of the threads after the 2nd ODI vs Pak. I'd never seen so many Indians post on PP before that day :)))

And to think people call this guy selfish and a slow cricketer.

Guy is simply so serene, yet always busy at the crease.

Amla is one of the best opening batsmen going around right now.

I've watched the game for two decades and he is one of the best openers I've ever seen - not just currently. Certainly in the top 5 openers that I've seen over 20 years.

Sachin. Anwar. Sehwag. Gilchrist. Amla. Sanath.

Top 5-6 easy.

It just confirms there is no such thing as a one-day or test or T20 batsman --- if you are a good enough batsman, you can adjust yourself to the situation and format of the game. Most importantly you can get RUNS and get them consistently.

South Africa have three great examples of this currently in Kallis, Amla and De Villiers -- great batsmen in any format of the game.

And if you are a hopeless and awful batsman, again it does not matter what form of the game, you are still awful.. just look at Shahid Afridi, everyone said he was 'tailor made' for T20 cricket -- and we all know what's he's done, and ppl said he was not suited for test cricket -- probably true but irony is he ended up with a better record as test batsman than in T20.

Beautiful irony isn't it Wrt Shahid.

Compare their averages to his and it isn't CLOSE.

MashAllah, superb achievement. Arguably the best ODI opening batsmen after Tendulker.

Superb batsmen. I still think Ab might be a better LOI batsman but whatever. His consistency is astonishing!

His centuries almost always come in difficult situations, no wonder the Proteas never lose when he scores one.

Wonderful stat.

No matter the criticism, most people would kill to have an opener like Amla in their team. Great batsman.

You know the naysayers have little to stand on when they bring up his beard as an argument. o.O

Why is there no single Indian in this thread? Where are the Kohlites?

Class act!

Makes his runs in all conditions and against all teams.

Wonderfoul achievment. Doing it everywhere in the world.

It was very hard batting against the new ball but he is always able to do it.

What about YK than?

He will be the fastest for 5K as well. He needs to get very few runs per innings to make it.

that is true the record of 5000 runs is in 114 innings and amla faced 81 innings to reach 4000 so there are many innings for him to reach 5000 milestone.

but but he dont hit those boom boom sixes!

Hashim Amla - Fastest to score 6000 ODI runs

Got in in 123 innings...and 13 innings less than Kohli.

Congrats to Amla Bhai and Bhai brigades

:amla

Title should be updated

2000, 3000, 4000, 5000 and now 6000!

Only 123 innings.

That is pure bananas.

His strokes today were reminiscent of Sachin. Pure class.

Congratulations to all South African and Pakistani fans. He made us proud today.

Congrats to him but he has been in poor form in this series so far. Needs to fire big in the test series.

Is the ship sinking in ODIs? :amla

Other than him bolting under pressure which has been the hallmark of his ODI career, he has been found wanting big time since the start of the World Cup excluding the minnow bashing vs. Ireland.

Is he no longer able to cope with the pace of modern day ODI cricket?

Of course, still a class act in Tests.

He is able to score the runs, just that he manages to get himself out these days. A dip in form. If he can score a 50 he can easily pile up big runs

Fantastic stuff. A few months ago I read an article which showed that he contributes the most runs/per innings of any batsman ever. So him breaking all these records is understandable.

I think he can break the 7000 run barrier before his age makes him retire from ODIs. Don't think he'll be playing ODIs after the next Champions Trophy.

Checked up the scorecard and he seemed good for a century today. Played one shot too many but seems to have found some of his touch.

MOTS in the series against New Zealand, in his last series which you left out. He has been struggling with the slow, low, sticky pitches of Bangladesh and India, which is a surprise and does not bode well for the upcoming test series.

Congratulations Hashim Amla - Fastest batsman to reach 7000 ODI runs

Now just watch all the haters on Pakpassion saying that they will only consider him to be a good batsman if he wins the worldcup

Congratulations Hashim!! he has been phenomenal so consistent.Love watching him bat.

A great batsman,a great man and muslim. If South Africa played more matches like India,Australia,England he would have scored 10000 plus in tests and ODIS.
Let's see how long he prolongs his career.

The best batsman to watch from the South African team, alongside AB. Can't wait to see Amla take on Amir in the Champions Trophy.

Second greatest ODI opener of all time.

No one hates him but the problem is he doesnt perform in big matches thats why his name does come in the big league of players. tell me one substantial inning he has played in a big match.
