So he has multiple roles as chief selector and coach, but took charge of Islamabad too as a way to ‘get more coaching experience’ and see / develop the next generation of players.

Knowing Pakistan has an unsettled top order and there’s a t20 World Cup coming up, he stacks the Islamabad team with foreign batsmen and then picks 4 of the top 5 as foreign players.

Even today, with Islamabad strongly poised at 92 for 1, it would have been the perfect time to send out Talat to get some experience. But no, he sends out Malan.

Yes, there are some young bowlers but no one in the team will be going to the World Cup.

People need to realize PSL is also a business. Your job is to win and earn your team a profit. Its not up to him to develop players, thats what the national team is for.

Then why select players on basis of PSL.
Treat it as business and let players get their money.
Thats why players like Shehzad and U.Akmal get selected on basis of PSL performance because younger guys never get chance.

Today Kamran Akmal got hundred, What if Rizwan Hussain or Saif Badar or any other guy was Played by United maybe he could have got hundred as well, I'm not saying they have that class but could have been a possibility.

Its about keeping everything balanced if its business treat it as business and Don't select players based of PSLPSL , select Players from domestic cricket then their is equality.
 
Franchise owner didn't hire him to develop players for the national team. Their goal is to win the tournament & he is doing what he thinks necessary for winning the games.

Complete double standards. We shouldn’t just ignore that Misbah is the chief selector and the coach of the national team. He has a duty to the team.

It’s not like he has to compromise winning. Would Islamabad have lost if Talat came out to bat at 3 or 4? Absolutely not, the game was in the bag.

He seems to be focussing completely on foreign players.

Other teams win with local talent but he is not giving any chance to young batters. This is the PAKISTAN Super League. Disgusting to see a team with a foreign top 4.

That’s the problem with having 5 different jobs. Eventually they will conflict.

He’s being paid as the coach/ selector, he should still be thinking about the Pakistan team right now.
 
People are acting if they sent talat at 3 they should have lost or somethi g. They are making out as if these foreigners are Goat's or something the fact is thet majority of them are bang average players. If so it's a business and they think someone like talat can't win them from that position they why are they picking him. Pathetic logic by some PP experts.

What’s the point of the overseas internationals if they are not their to improve the local talent? That was the entire purpose of IPL and look how the pros have revolutionised the local cricketer’s playing ability in India.

IU needs to slot in a local batsman in its top 4

Exactly. IPL always promotes their youngsters and gives them the opportunity to perform.

If we look at this from a purely business perspective then why have the emerging player rule?

Why have the 4 foreign players limit?

I think once Steyn joins next week one local pacer will be dropped and one local batsman will come in.
 
Amad Butt has been doing well in domestic tournaments. We are looking for a lower order hitter.

It could have been the perfect opportunity to send him at 3 as a pinch hitter. What’s the worst that could have happened? He gets out on 0 and then you can send in the foreign contingent.

National team coach is a greedy guy. This was a great chance for him to experiment with his youngsters and supposes tonkers.

He could easily use Asif Ali to bat as an opener and see what he is all about in the power play instead of him not making the cut at No.6 in international cricket. Or even give Faheem a try up the order.

Yes it is. The goal of franchise cricket is to draw more attention to the league, and people are interested in seeing local talent compete against/alongside top superstars. People will lose interest if they know that the local players are not being given a proper chance to showcase their talent. Pakistan is in dire need of modern batsmen, and this is where these batsmen can experience international cricket standards by playing in batting positions of 1-4.

The other thing Franchise cricket can also show the national selectors is that xyz batsman is incapable of batting in the top 4. Already i have written off players such as Shahzad, Hussain Talat, Shan Masood and Sarfaraz Ahmed who have been given a chance to bat on flat pancakes in the top 4 with no real substance
 
The quality of foreign players playing in Psl is so low, there are very few superstars in this Psl tournament, and add to that Psl only has 6 teams and it's fourth Psl but it looks like the first Psl because it's played in Pakistan, the level of Psl right now is very low maybe in the coming years young local talent and the quality of players might improve and overall Pakistan is struggling to find and develop local talent which can be seen in our recent international performance in test and odi,it's a very serious problem

Talk about hypocrisy !

So you blast Mickey Arthur for not blooding more talent from Karachi Kings during his dual role.

But when Misbah stacks the top order with foreign batsmen, it's just business and concentrating on his franchise.

I say this as someone who defended Misbah a lot in his playing days, and I will always respect him for lifting the team after 2010, but his loyalists make my blood boil.

The coach's job is not to promote young talent anyways. There is an emerging category which already serves that purpose.

Regardless, one of the top 4, probably Ingram, will be dropped once Steyn is here next week.

You yourself are wanting him to conflict with his interest.

He is not being paid as the coach/selector while he is ahead of the PSL.

His interest when coaching the national team is the national team.

His interest when coaching the PSL team is the PSL team.

You are asking for a conflict of interest when you are asking him to put the National team's interests ahead of the PSL.

What makes you say that the team will get much worse playing local players? In every league, local talent is nurtured and preferred. Misbah is putting all his batting eggs into foreign players. If Amad / Asif / Talat had come out at 3, it could have given them confidence for later on in the tournament.

Misbah doesn’t have an office job that he can just switch off in between the roles. He’s the coach AND chief selector of Pakistan. He should always be thinking about the team and prioritising it.

No one is saying stack the top order with u19 batsmen, but at least have a balance. Give chances to some young/ local players. Most of the other franchises aren’t doing it either but he has an extra responsibility.

You never know, they could end up being key players. The few local batsman that have been given a chance have performed. The likes of Sharjeel, Fakhar, Ashraf today. Even Haider Ali is starting to show real promise. These few innings are doing him a world of good. Imagine if Zalmi had played foreign players over him in that position.

That’s exactly the problem. The bowling for Pakistan is pretty sorted.

We have had a shortage of batting talent for a while now. Misbah should know that as the coach / selector.

Totally incorrect statement by a senior poster like you and not the first time while quoting or tagging me. Maybe emotions coming in the way.

I quoted Mickey when he said how highly he rates Usama Mir and that he said in 2016. I have referred to this fact multiple times that how highly he rated him but Usama never got a chance even in T20 internationals.

Now how is this related to managing a franchise as a coach? When did I once say that Mickey isnt putting in youngsters in KK? Kindly quote me. The only thing related to Mickey’s coaching stint with KK I ever said was that he never considered Usama Mir irrespective of how highly he rated him.

Kindly quote me if I have ever said anything else. Otherwise kindly avoid letting your emotions effect you.

Imagine if he had been the coach for Babar in his formative years instead of Mickey, he would have continued to play him in the lower order and then dropped him!

Again there was nothing that I said regarding Mickey managing KK as a coach. The only expectations I had were in the national team from him.

If it is not against the PSL team's objective to play local players / youngsters, its even worse of Misbah to stack the top order with foreign players.

Whatever is the PSL's team's interests is determined by their owner and their management staff.

Not what the national team needs or wants.

He bought himself some time by researching Hafeez and Malik who smashed Bangladesh B team at home in two matches.
 
The whole of PSL doesn't really promote local talent. These franchises would rather sign trash like Walton and Villas, keep Sammy as captain when he is finished as a player than trust local talent.

If we aren't going to have elite overseas talent or young overseas exciting players than I would rather see Pakistani players trusted.
 
Top 4 all overseas players. I guess it's about winning the tournament and all this talk of promoting local talent is an afterthought.

I understand the desire to win. But when the scorecard reads 95 for 1 and Islamabad are way ahead of the game, why not send in Talat or Asif or Butt, or even Faheem.
 
The guy had Younis Khan and Ahmed Shehzad opening for us in CWC 15 after leading the team uninterrupted for several years :))) !

You're expecting way too much from him.
 
What is expected of Misbah he is doing exactly that. He never supported local talent before and he'll continue to obstruct Pakistani youngsters. The XI of Islamabad is a joke 2 all rounders Faheem and Amad forced into the xi at the expense of a bowler. Once Dale Steyn arrives only one of the 2 will play. Ahmed, Rizwan Hussain, Gohar and Badar deserve to get a game this is still early in the tournament, so winning is'nt the issue.
 
Why do people expect Misbah to support local talent in PSL. He's working for Islamabad United not PCB in this case and his duty is towards Islamabad United and making sure they win and not towards PCB and developing youth players.

If PCB wants to develop youth players then change the policies of PSL however, Misbah is doing nothing wrong in this case and does not owe it to anyone to develop youth players as that is not his job as Islamabad United coach.

he is hell-bound on trying to get Asif Ali, his friend, to play some kind of an innings to justify his place in the T20 WC squad...

Thank God Umar Akmal did us all a favour of getting himself in trouble otherwise he would be in there as well

again we can hope that Ahmad shahzad has a disastrous tournament otherwise we are looking at him as an opener

misbah is the worst thing to happen to pak cricket in this new structure... Wasim Khan has this poison on his cv to put misbah incharge

Again, why should he send a Pakistani player out? He is not obligated to. His responsibility during the PSL is towards Islamabad and only Islamabad. He's not supposed to go a talent hunt and experiment with his own team.
 
So Shadab comes out at 4 and scores more than the foreign 4 combined. See the value of backing local talent??

Kami, Malik, Hafeez, Afridi won’t be around for very long.

After they go the only young batsmen in Pakistan can’t be Babar. You need to have a young talent pool coming through.
 
Talat comes out at 7 today in the pressure situation. Imagine if he had got some time in the centre yesterday.

It would have benefitted Islamabad.

Shouldn't that be something PCB should think about? If It's the Pakistan Super League then PCB should ban foreign players. Misbah is not the one making the rules. It's the PCB. He's doing what is best for his team within those rules.

Top four foreign players again. Followed by Asif Ali.

Why is this man in charge of Pakistan cricket???

His calm presence couldn't win us anything during his playing days. CT13 and WC 2015 were painful to watch as fans. We only got better when he retired for good.

That will really help us to develop batsmen.

Anyway, the losses will pile up for Islamabad this year.

They should never have let go of Dean Jones.

That's all they deserve. I really wanted to see What Rizwan Hussain can do in that PSL but no chance of playing with Misbah.

To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if Misbah selects Rizwan for the next game...

.... to bat at number 7.
 
I think Misbah haters are clutching at straws here as there's no potential local player at Islamabad United that can break into the top 4 of the national t20 team in time for the WC. The top 4 will be status quo (any 4 from Babar, Fakhar, Imam, Haris, Malik, Hafeez and now add Kamran and Sharjeel to the list). It's a non issue really. What the need of the moment is (for National t20 team), is middle and lower order hitters. Misbah's experimenting with that with whatever talent is available. At Islamad United that would be Faheem, Amad, Asif Ali and potentially Shadab. He's played all of them in all matches so far, so to say Misbah is not giving youngsters a chance would be unfair. I mean he's playing both Faheem and Amad even though there's room for only one as it's throwing the team out of balance. He's trying his best to give these youngsters an opportunity to perform and seal whatever spots are up for grabs in the national team. He's even promoting Shadab up the order maybe to see if he has potential to play a pinch hitter role in the WC.

Misbah at Islamabad United has a long history of giving youngsters a chance from his captaincy days. Many such as Rumman Raees and Hussain Talat have been selected for the National team but could not seal their place. Others such as Shadab, Faheem and Asif are in continuous contention. And there will be many more that will get a chance with Misbah at the helm. I don't think the youngsters are complaining as much as PPers
 
Misbah has always had this thing with having domestic experienced batsman and a blend of youngish pacers with experience spinners. Such as 2012 test side vs England, Pace: Junaid Khan & Rahat Ali and Spinners: Saeed Ajmal & Abdur Rehman. Sure we had Azhar & Asad in that series but it was mostly covered with experience players. You rarely see young batsman coming through under Misbah, unless they fit his style and philosophy of cricket.

Misbah is one of the worst things to happen Toni's recently again. Absolute clown of a coach and has no idea what his team should do tactically. He didn't win squat with a chucking Ajmal and Hafeez at his disposal, he won't win anything now for us nationally or with his PSL team.

Misbah drops Zafar Gohar after a couple of brilliant performances.

The shortened game is not an excuse as Tahir and even Moeen’s bowling showed.

Zafar is the best spinner in Pakistan and the fact that he’s only played 2 games this season is ridiculous.
 
Misbah is a sore loser. He has destroyed Dean jones team. Imagine what will happen to Pakistan in T20 world cup now. No.1 team destoyed by Misbah's curse.

Misbah was barely responsible except one year. The 2 years he sat it out playing only 3-4 games. Which shows its Deano and IU still either won it outright or go to the finals.

2 questions in regard to IU's second PSL win.

1. How many games did Misbah play in IU's second PSL winning campaign?
2. What was his average and strike rate that season?

Zafar isn't a mug with the bat either. Faheem and Amad have been terrible this season.

Misbah has filled the team with all rounders who can't win the game with either bat or ball.

Specialists such as Saif and Zafar have suffered.
 
Misbah has been the single biggest disappointment of this PSL thus far. He stubbornly persisted with Faheem Ashraf despite continued failures until the point where the playoffs were in jeopardy. He has mysteriously left out Zafar Gohar who appears to be the best local spin bowler (and has done very well in the limited opportunities he has had) and even preferred a different left arm spinner over Zafar. And then there's that total lack of confidence in the local batting talent - even Rizwan Hussain can't get a consistent run!

It's as if we are not allowed to look beyond Shadab/Imad for spin options or Faheem for the pace bowling allrounder spot.

Sad to see this from the Pakistan head coach & chief selector.

Misbah played 8 games but with mediocre numbers as a bastman. However, was still the captain of the side and the poster I was responded to said Misbah dropped Babar Azam from IU.

So my point is if Babar Azam, Umer Amin etc are dropped and Gohar doesnt get games then how come Misbah is responsible when some people arent even willing to give him credit of two trophies as the captain of the side?

My point is its not possible that its both ways. Either Misbah was more involved than Deano and thus dropped player like Babar and didnt give any games to Zafar than he deserves the complete credit of trophies too but if he wasnt involved then how come dropping Babar and some guys not getting games is his fault?

I dont know if Misbah is or will be a good or bad coach at the moment but the hypocrisy of some which is clearly evident from this scenario.
