Misbah-ul-Haq's tenure as head coach of the national cricket team is likely to continue through the upcoming T20 World Cup after Pakistan emerged victories in the rain-hit T20I series against West Indies. Pakistan claimed the four-match T20 series 1-0 after the fourth and final game ended in no result on Tuesday following rain.

Before the start of the four-match T20 series against the West Indians in the Caribbeans, some PCB officials and technocrats on the cricket committee were concerned about the performance of the team in white ball formats following a disappointing England tour.

"Basically everyone was keen to see how Misbah managed the team in the T20 series in West Indies as calls grew for the PCB to review his position as head coach in white ball formats," one reliable source told PTI.

He said that the board had started to look for other options as the cricket community was upset after Pakistan lost the three-match one-day series to a second string England side and than the T20 series with some key players missing from the home side.

"The feeling developed that perhaps Misbah was not the right man or didn't have the coaching experience to take Pakistan into the T20 World Cup," the source said.

He said one of the options spoken about was attaching an additional specialist white ball coach with the team.

"But now since the T20 series in West Indies was badly disrupted by bad weather and three matches were abandoned it has become difficult for the board and cricket committee to make a final decision on Misbah's future as white ball coach," the source said.

He said the main problem facing the PCB is the shortage of time with Pakistan scheduled to play series against Afghanistan, New Zealand and England before the T20 World Cup starts in October.

"With this T20 series washed out in West Indies clearly there is no space or logical reason to reshuffle the team management now before the World Cup," he said.

Misbah has a three-year contract with the PCB and will complete two years of the contract in the T20 World Cup.

But the source confirmed that the cricket committee will be meeting with Misbah, bowling coach Waqar Younis and captain Babar Azam to get feedback on what went wrong in England and overall progress of the team before the team leaves for Sri Lanka.

The committee is headed by former Test cricketer, Saleem Yousaf and includes former great, Wasim Akram and ex-test players, Umar Gul and Ali Naqvi.

"Wasim in particular is not satisfied with Misbah's progress as a coach and feels that Babar needs too be given more support as captain from the coaches," another source revealed.

"The cricket committee will also meet with chief selector, Muhammad Wasim as they have number of queries on selection issues and the way Misbah and Babar are making rapid changes in the white ball teams."

Misbah, Babar and the other support staff will return home after a two-Test series in the West Indies that begins from 12th August.

So a “win” in a 3 match series with 2 washouts is enough to overturn any concerns?

Absolutely bizarre! It’s almost as if the PCB just wanted a statistic to cling on to to justify keeping him. “Look we won the T20s series vs West Indies”’ I would love to know what Misbah has over the pcb establishment.

A failure in the test series would lead to Misbah's departure.

However, Pakistan is in a good position to win that test series if we play good cricket, so it is likely that Misbah will stay.

The excuse is laughable. Misbah is inept at coaching even a club side, and here he is continuing despite shambolic performances one after another.

The T20 in question was actually lost by West Indies, not won by Pakistan. Pakistan batted poorly, with no batsman showing any urgency or fluency. Geriatrics in Windies team could not handle innocuous deliveries of non-chucking Hafeez and squandered an easy chase.

Even if Pakistan had miraculously won 4-0, it would have been down to individual brilliances from likes of Hasan, Rizwan, Fakhar, etc, and not due to Misbah or Waqar's coaching.

Most likely Misbah’s 3 years contract will be extended for another 2 years. We fans should not excited by PCB’s stunt news.

So there were concerns after the England tour but now those concerns are gone after winning a 1 match T20 series vs WI. The PCB is a joke, the time to get rid of him was before the team left for the tour of West Indies. They could’ve sent a caretaker to WI whilst figuring out who the new coach would be.

The rain saved Misbah, and we’ll be stuck with him for another year after making it out of the Super12 stage. Misbah’s contract will then be extended for another year because they’ll think it’s to late to change the coach especially when the WC is in 2023.

Rabb Da khauff karo. Worst news of the year.
Oh how could this wasim Khan is so inept. He should sacked along with other losers.

These are typical fake news to assure fans that PCB is doing right thing. Same like PCB in touch with Andy Flower . Misbah's job was never under scanner.

Wasim Khan and Mani are 2 puppets of IK and they cannot make decisions of their own.

He should take the team to the T20 WC and then a decision should be made. For me hasn't added anything to a pretty average team. If he ain't adding anything then there isn't a point to having him as coach

Well to be fair, that is very true.

Not enough matches happened on this tour, yet.

Loss in Tests could trigger his dismissal though.

I hope we win even if it means Misbah. Not one of those fans who would ever want Pak to lose for the sake of getting rid of a player or coach.

With this I hope we lose every series and not win a single one till Misbah and Waqar are booted out. Can’t care for a team thats run by unprofessionals.

I am willing to look into the bigger scheme of things and happily take a 0-2 test series loss from WI if that guarantees Misbah and Waqar's ouster.

Wasim Khan told us recently that a decision on the coach's future will be made after a review of the England and West Indies tours.

So far:

Lost 2 series
Won 1

Do you really believe Wasim Khan has any say when Misbah has full backing from IK? IK is not same as was used to be. Back then he dropped his cousin to win matche.

Seriously.... are they still not decisive on Misbah and Waqar after this long? And their decision will be based on the last two series only? Don't know whether to laugh or cry.

He will likely beat a NZ B or NZ C and England B or C.

And the fans will be bigging up players and the coach will continue.

The problem is not Imran Khan.
Problem is Misbah ... he is EXACTLY the kind of person that has caused the country to go into shambles. Misbah exploits and gets his way through instead of being honest and faithful towards the country. There are millions of Misbahs everywhere.

If Misbah had an iota of honesty, inner pride, shame and faithfullness towards the country, he would NEVER EVER apply for the job for which was never qualified for.
Deep down, he knew it with 100% surety that he is not qualified and he is going to fail - yet he exploited the system. This mentality and this dishonesty is our problem.

Every team is looking to better themselves - look at Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

We are stuck with the usual politics, spin doctoring, spinning statistics to keep people in jobs. Surely someone somewhere in the PCB has some ambition to better ourselves.

All we ever see are excuses upon excuses and cake cutting ceremonies for absolutely pointless milestones.

The coach is not going anywhere looks like it.

Good stuff! Hoping to see him coach us at world t20

I don’t think a change just before the World T20 would have been possible anyways even if the PCB’s top management wanted to. Not many coaches would have been willing to take the charge of team just couple or so months before the World T20 and to be honest wouldn’t have been best of the moves for the team as well at this moment anyways.

Bohot afsosnak khabar hai. Yeh koi haal mein jaye ga naheen. He's like Dick Cheney in so many ways.

True but those support these shameless people are equal to blame. Misbah couldn’t get this job when Wasim Khan was against that. Mani is just for show.

This makes sense now to see Misbah smiling first time after the rain washed the match. Huge huge relief for him.

The bigger question is, what exactly is Misbah going to contribute (just before the WC) that he didn't contribute so far? The answer is ZILCH!

Pathetic to see you obsessed with a person rather than your team. Its like some random fans to watch Kohli, Williamson, Roy, Root, Gayle as a player but do not support their team.

My gut feel is that Misbah and Waqar will stay till 2023 World Cup.

Depends!!!! If IK stays they will be there even 2025. Both Mani and Wasim Khan are puppet. But Mani is worse. He hide when problem arise and let Wasim K to deal with that. Wasim Khan should resign if he cannot work freely. He will not get a decent job with any other cricket board with these types of performances.

Looks to me he is more focused on getting the intl home series which he had successfully managed to achieve and it will be a good addition on his cv.

Selection farce like Azam Khan he is not happy I am sure, but he has left it to selection panel

With regards to failure of tactical planning on part of Misbah and waqar I don't think there will be any question mark on Wasim.

He is most likely going to get a decent job in ECB to be back with his family within 1 year. This is why he mentioned 1 year time frame.

This is the reason why Pakistan Cricket has gone down the drain.

Misbah has no shame , a mediocre player , a mediocre system , mediocre results

yes; that will happen

We will beat Afghanistan, NZ X team, England Z teams at home proudly

We will not reach samisen WT20; but since next T20 WC is next year, so we would say , hey new coach will have very less time to adjust, so let Misbah continue

Sometimes , I feel this account Major is handled by Misbah himself

Why is it pathetic? Do i bash you or others for supporting a player?

What team is there to support??? Kids who have no donestic experience and end up making dumb mistakes. No thanks.

Would love to see the coach continue till the world cup

I as an Indian fan would live to see the same. Continuation is a key to long term success.

I am not bashing you. What I am saying you prefer Misbah over a team which is pathetic.
Yes since we have only few months left both Misbah and Waqar should continue otherwise new coach will be blamed for Misqar's mistakes

Misbah-ul-Haq, head coach of the national cricket team, has completed his quarantine in Jamaica and will return home from Jamaica today.

Misbah-ul-Haq will arrive in Lahore on Sunday at 11:30 AM.

That was such a poor T20 series. One close win, and other matches getting washed out, including the one where Pakistan was getting hammered. I won't take that series as a success as luck played all the role in it.

Good on him, good to hear he's doing better and is Covid free.

We hammered them in the t20 we won.

It is what it is, a win is a win.

Next people will say we ducked WI with rain lol.

Read my post carefully and think a bit before responding. I never said we didn't win. I did say it was a poor t20 series, and Pakistan wasn't as impressive. Winning by mere runs is a win indeed. In the other game we were getting hammered. Hypothetically if there was no washout, we could've lost that game that was washed up. I was just indicating that lets not celebrate it. Lets wait for a proper series to assess where we stand.

Hoping he doesn't suffer from any long term symptoms or complications of COVID.

Misbah is honest and hardworking guy but don't think he is suitable for LOIs or dynamic enough to train players.

Our cricket culture in general is very backward with athleticism and specific training regimes given very less importance and natural ability and ancient practice routines still being in place.

Misbah fans celebrating a 1 nil ‘series’ win when other games were washed out, pathetic and embarrassing

T20 is a game that has the tendency to turn on it's head. Sure we were getting hammered at a point, but we can't assume we would've lost.

The series was a better shame but we can't do nothing about it.

The problem with PCB is that it is run by mediocre people .

Also , no top coach is willing to take up the Pakistan Coach position because of poor management.

Top coaches like Henson, Ford , Moores etc will not able to work along with such limited sense , mediocre , insecure narrow-minded people.

Even look at Pakistan great former players like Miandad , Mohsin , etc always speaking against modern day methods .

Year 2025 Misbah is still in charge

Year 2030 Misbah gets new 2 year contract

:salute
