Kent Cricket is delighted to announce the signing of former Pakistan international fast bowler Mohammad Amir for the second half of this year’s Vitality Blast competition.

The 29-year-old is one of the world’s premier limited overs bowlers, having already won Pakistan Super League (PSL) and Vitality Blast titles, as well as a runners-up berth in 2020’s inaugural Lanka Premier League (LPL).

The left-arm seamer won both the T20 World Cup and ICC Champions Trophy with Pakistan before retiring from all forms of international cricket in 2020, and has taken 220 wickets in 190 career T20 matches to date, with a bowling average of just 22.50.

He will be available for the Spitfires for up to seven Vitality Blast group stage matches, with an option to play in knockout rounds should Kent qualify. Amir’s exact arrival date will depend on Karachi Kings’ progression in this year’s PSL, and any mandatory quarantining period upon arrival into the UK.

His first match as a Kent Spitfire could be a return to Chelmsford for the ‘Battle of the Bridge’ clash with Essex Eagles on 25th June.

On joining the Kent Spitfires for the Vitality Blast, Amir said: “I am excited to join a Kent team full of potential.

“I have always enjoyed playing at Canterbury, and I hope I will be able to help Kent win a trophy this year.”

Kent’s Director of Cricket, Paul Downton, said: “We’re delighted that a player of Amir’s quality has agreed to join us for the later stages of the Vitality Blast this year.

“His skill and experience will be an invaluable addition to our bowling attack and I’m sure our Members and supporters will share our enthusiasm in welcoming Amir to the Club.”

Surprised he didn't ditch KK to play more in the Blast. Any idea what the financial disparity is between the pair for Amir?

Busy few months coming up for Amir:

PSL
The Hundred
T20 Blast
Kashmir Premier League

Don't like him because of his past & what he has done after the comeback but still good luck to Amir. I hope he performs well.

Make or break year for Amir.
Will need to live upto his potential to be remembered in good light for rest of his career rather than fade away.

He will become a British citizen and then will go play in the IPL. Mark my words- I called it first. He will do anything for money that man

One of the most sought after T20 player in the world but could not find a place in Misbah's 35 players list .

At his pace, he'll get destroyed in the IPL if it's a flat wicket.

Not that pace has got something to do with great IPL performance. It is just a measure but not a success criteria in itself

Amir performance is useless for Pakistan national team. He has lack of dedication for the national team and he may give 50% and preserve his energy for franchise leagues around the globe.

They are more skilled than Aamir in T20's

Sorry is this just your opinion or you have some facts to back them as well and possibly convince others? Bhuvi atleast has decent economy despite his ordinary average in white ball cricket but, Sandeep Sharma what has he played and achieved other than league cricket?

Hyping is the new fad it looks like. :smith

I'm talking about bhuvaneshwar. This season has had some slow pitches which has led to low scores generally but bhuvi was effective against even the English batting lineup on absolute belters. Current Aamir can't do that.

Good luck to him, that is where he belongs. He wasn't pulling up any trees in a Pakistan shirt, maybe the T20 stuff will suit him better.

Not sure if Amir can get British Citizenship that easily as he is a convicted criminal.

He's got indefinite stay at the moment.

From what he says, British citizenship is also a possibility in future.

Sohail tanvir type player? At least he is available for domestics tho

Why in 2nd half? Is Karachi Kings giving more money than Kent?

I have nothing to do with that. Since Amir shows how greedy he can be. He retired to play franchise leagues matches than national team.

So what if Amir is greedy? Every international player is greedy. 5 South African’s left their national team to play in the IPL. Many English players will opt out against the NZ series due to fatigue. Are they not greedy?

Amir hasn’t retired, he only stated that he won’t play under the current management. And, he has every right to do that after the current management spoke against him in the media.

Amir only retired from Tests, management wasn’t happy so they dropped him because he refused to take back his retirement from tests.

Wahab retired from tests at the same time, he was dropped but brought back into the side after he took back his retirement from tests.

It’s clear that your hatred for Amir has blinded you from facts/truth.

Do you know if he gets British citizenship would he want to play in the IPL in the future?

Seriously!!! What is around for looking out for your own interest. He wasn't valued by the PCB management and a lot of his peers so he did the next best thing, quit and is now a free agent. Good for him

At the moment he won't give much away regarding that. He's more focussed on current opportunities available to him rather than possible ones in the future.

But you are right, it could be an option for him.

He would definitely not turn IPL down given the chance, it’s more about whether IPL will offer him a chance to feature.

Guess he will easily feature in leagues all around the world and enjoy his 4 over stints.

They won't be interested if he carries on bowling rubbish like he has recently.

If he gets back to his best, he can make a nice sum though.

The same league where Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Sandeep Sharma are two of the top leading wickets takers for “pace” bowlers

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has recently won his team a series against Eng where he finished with an economy of 6.38, which was best for any bowler among both sides. While Amir faked an injury when he was getting thrashed in the last international series he played.

Anyways, Amir won't be allowed to play in the IPL even though he is desperate to get in.

Seriously!!! I was one of his best fan but I am really disappointed with him that he lacks of passion when he plays for Pakistan and faked injury here and there. I don't like wanna be fake coaches like Misbah or Waqar.

They too!!! But they also perform very well for their country.

Can you show me a quote where he has said that he wants to play in or is desperate to play at the IPL?

Who doesn't want to play in IPL. If he is eligible, as a Brit, and gets picked in IPL, it will be fun watching him.

I would love to see him play in the IPL if he was available for it. He likes the big stage, so could see him doing well.

Due to the rescheduling of the Pakistan Super League and COVID-related restrictions, Mohammad Amir will be unable to join-up with Kent for the 2021 Vitality Blast.

What a cheap shot, like you're the owner of IPL , when did Amir showed any desire to play in IPL ??

Aamir getting smashed on an Abu Dhabi pitch by the likes of Khushdil Shah whereas Bhuvi was bowling superbly to a powerful English T20 lineup on true pitches.

Current Bhuvi is much more skilled than Aamir in this format. Time to swallow your pride and accept it Slim Titan24 :srini

Amir's mediocrity now a days doesnt prove Bhuvi's superiority in any way unfortunately. Bhuvi's ODI average of 34 shows more than anything else and by any definition its mediocre. Yes like any bowler he can have a good series or two but, that doesnt mean he is superior to Amir who has better stats than him in white ball cricket across the formats.

Yes Amir is has been struggling but when you compare two players you dont compare one during his struggle and other during the so called highlight of his career. Otherwise you might have a case of saying Bhuvi is even better than Wasim due to one series vs Eng.

And Bhuvi's highlights in last outing in T20 league 0/37, 0/45, 1/45 as supposedly that defines a player's caliber. Irrespective of what Amir does, Bhuvi is average above average white ball bowler who can on his day can be economical. I am seeing all this while talking about struggles of Amir in other threads and despite that I cant rate Bhuvi more than what he is capable of but, thats just my opinion. :smith

Bhuvneshwar Kumar would be lucky to even get picked for the Zimbabwe T20 team.

Amir is at the twilight of his career and is a retiree. If you think Bhuvi > Retired Amir then okay, i will let you have that irrespective of going into an argument. :yk
