Mohammad Amir or Trent Boult - Who is the better bowler?

Boult.

Without looking at stats, I feel like he's better equipped to bowl in difficult conditions.
 
Boult is way better than amir. Amir only bowls well in England. Bpult does well anywhere.
 
Boult wins this one. He is much more accurate.

Amir used to be better but I think he lost his form slightly.
 
Amir would surely have not let england score 15 in that super over or had allowed the 11 odd runs that stokes hit in the last over.

amir with the old ball, boult with the new.

Boult during the world cup was not swinging the ball, he decided to review his action, came closer to wicket, spoke to wasim and told him to monitor his action while commentating and he started swinging the ball again. Amir needs to model his use of the crease on boult, his length is also much better than amirs with the new ball.
 
When push comes to shove, the only bowler I would take above Amir is Starc.
Boult's last over and super over were awful! Analyse each delivery and there was v.little accuracy or quality/change ups. Heck The 49.5th ball was a wide full toss, if Stokes was a bit braver that would have been an easy four, but he correctly went for the 2 knowing they have a second chance as long as they make 1.

But yeah back to this... Boult when pressure isn't on performs better, but I'd take Amir 6 out of the 7 days a week! No hesitation
 
Amir.

He can bowl on pace-friendly pitches and not pace-friendly pitches.

Yes he wasn’t at his best before the World Cup but he has proved everyone wrong with 18 scalps.

Amir currently may not be the most skillful bowler but his bowling-IQ makes him one of the most dangerous fast-bowlers in the world.

Boult had a bad Final but he was good in the last Final and he's been clutch for us in big matches, including the WC SF against India.

That delivery to Kohli was a beauty.
 
Boult is superior to Amir however the latter would not have conceded as many runs as his Kiwi counterpart in the last over (before the match was tied) and super over.

What I like about Amir is his ability to keep calm under pressure, especially when the stakes are high. This is evident from his track record in ICC LOI comps.

Defensively Amir is better but Boult's ability to win matches with the new ball overall makes him a bigger asset as a bowler.

Boult, pacy, athletic, great release, swing. If we are talking about end overs i have to say Amir has an edge. Still overall Boult is a better bowler. His fielding of his own bowling is somthing specatcular to watch.
 
Those neutral fans who have watched Boult from the beginning know that he has far outperformed Amir regardless of what stats will suggest. To me he was even better than Starc when Starc lost his form after that SA series. As for Amir -

Amir is pathetic in tests.

Cant bowl more than five over spells.

Is a very defensive bowler.

Is a trundler who bowls a couple of pacy balls per match.


Swings the ball for first 4 or so overs in overcast conditions. His fans can't praise him enough conveniently forgetting his performance later.
 
Boult for sure. Why are people forgetting how mediocre Amir really has been? I would like to think this WC was a turnaround, but more than likely he will go back to trundling in the bilaterals

More like it will be curious to see how he does outside England. England is one of his favorite places to bowl.
 
There is no comparison now. It would have been close if Amir could swing the ball again as he did a few years ago. Boult can run through sides with the new ball.

Fantastic delivery, and I will always love him for doing what he did to India in the SF, and generally I have lots of time for Boult but I think he has reached his peak. He will always be tight up front and snare a wicket or two, but the days of 6 wicket hauls I think are few and far between for him.

Actually think Amir won't get them type of hauls either, but in ODIs I would take him over Boult simply because of his pressure in big moments - when you need two very tight overs Amir will generally deliver - his deliveries are usually on point at the right place and right time. Rarely bowls a wrong ball during pressure moments. Boult tries too hard to be spectacular at times (because he can), but when you're not taking wickets economy is essential and Amir is better at that.

Taking wickets up front is Boult's for sure, but Amir isn't that far behind. IMHO Amir has changed with the times, prior to his ban ODI's were very different to the 350+ flat tracks we have now. Therefore he has focused on economy just as much as taking wickets, if he chagned his mindset to being attacking with a bit more confidence with our batting I reckon he will bring his old form back - flat pitches or not, he isn't express anymore but has the intelligence to out think batsmen!
 
For those saying Amir, please have a look at Boult’s averages in Test and ODI cricket. It’s not just superior, but far, far superior than Amir’s averages.

Boult averages 27.56 @ SR 55.2 in Tests. In ODI’s, he averages 25.06.

You’re comparing Amir with him?

But I have little to no doubt that Amir would not have gone 0-67 in 10 overs in. WC Final.
 
Boult is a superb bowler and ahead of Amir when it comes to performances.
 
Overall Boult is better. But if you look in segments, Boult with the new ball and Amir with the old ball!

With the old ball, Boult isn't as accurate and is prone to losing his head in difficult times.
 
Boult is an ODI ATG

Amir isn't even half the bowler that Boult is.

Honestly, if Fakhar Zaman hadn't happened, Amir would be the most hyped Pakistani cricketer ever.

He was being blasted (rightfully so) before the WC but was in the top five highest wicket-takers when Pakistan was in the tournament.

Pakistan in its entire cricketing history has won only 3 international tournaments, 1992 world cup, t20 2009 and 2017 champions trophy. And Amir played a crucial role in 2/3... even in this world cup, amir played 2 less games than Boult and also didnt get to bowl against Sri Lanka, but he has the same number of wickets with a better SR and similar avg...All this without his signature swing and pace...imagine if/when he gets that back.?

If we didnt know the outcome of the super over and you had Amir and Boult both available, who would you choose?
 
Boult gets to open the bowling with Matt Henry. Remind me who Amir shares the new ball with?

Bowling partnerships are being extremely underrated because if you can't apply/sustain pressure from the other end, batsmen can completely nullify what your strike bowler is doing by just playing him out.

While I won't comment on who the better bowler of the two is, I will say Amir is at a disadvantage compared to his contemporaries.
 
Boult with the new ball is light years ahead of Amir.

Amir is slightly better with the old ball.
 
Amir pre-ban was a far superior bowler.

Now Boult is ahead because of his consistency, Amir didn't have a great couple of years.

However, when the chips are down, or it's a big occasion, you'd almost always back Amir to deliver and pull you out from a bad situation.

He's a beast for the grand stage.

Both would be in my team, they'll partner up very well.
 
Lol at the big talks of Grand stage and self creates scenarios. Defending 340 against India in the finals is the definition of Chips were down, NZ just defended 240 :))

If you consider the tests, the Amir isnt even half the bowler Boult is.

Roy treated him like a random Indian trundler from the 90s...

What big game player? Afridi easily outbowled Amir in the later stages of World cup. Even in CT other bowlers were better. In a big final 340 has never been chased so even Zimbabwe bowlers could have defended that score in the CT final.

People have a huge sunk cost fallacy with amir and will always keep moving the goal posts for him
 
Brent bhai is better. He is more of a threat with those swinging deliveries.

I said big MATCH....and in the big MATCHes he has always delivered and taken the crucial wickets that have won us games...

2009 world t20 final....Dilshan was THE wicket, and he get that with a wicket maiden....

2017 CT final, it was Kohli and Sharma's wickets...and he got those...and it was the Oval, a flat track, beautiful for batting and if the indian top 3 weren't dismissed early, they wouldve chased it, in fact even Zimbabwe couldve chased that score, there was barely any movement beyond the first 5 overs, and thats all India needed to survive, but tough luck, all Amir needed was those first 5.

2019 Pak vs England...Pakistan under pressure Butler batting out of his skin, and Amir gets him...swings the match our way and we end up winning.

There is a reason the best batsman in the world (kohli) considers him the most difficult bowler to face....and this is all post ban... 5 years is a loooong time for a fast bowler to be out....everyone peaks differently and Amir's was right then...had he not lose those 5 years, he wouldve played the 2011 world cup in India and that match we lost in Mohali by 29 runs...with Amir there it would've never happened...its an utter shame...but even after all this, even after he lost his pace and his banana swing...he is still Pakistan's best bowler.... People consider Boult such a great bowler, but Ill tell you this...Amir wouldnt have conceded those 15 runs in that super over...FACT.

Regarding defending a target of 340 runs in the final, with the scoreboard pressure even Zimbabwe will defend that score with ease. Any bowling attack can defend such a huge score, India has never scored 340+ batting first or last ever outside SC. Even NZ can defend 240 runs against India in a tight match, 340+ is out of reach .

Offcourse your special bowler only needs a huge target of 335-340 runs behind his back to show the magic, he can't take wickets against India bowling first and bowl India to a cheap score or defend an average score of 240-250 runs in Asia Cup. Give the bowlers 340 runs to defend and anyone will bowl like a Babbar Sher.

Do you remember Hussey hit Amir for 16 runs in the second last over before he smashed Ajmal to win the match against Pakistan during T20 WC 2010 ? Remember or not .

There is no comparison. Players will be judged by their performances and not what they could have done if X,y,z didn't happen.

Amir is couple of leagues below Boult. Amir is in Ishant Sharma/Irfan Pathan league rather than Boult league.

Looking at Skill for skill at their prime...Amir is the better bowler, at his prime Amir was faster, swung it more and had better variations. He is a far more intelligent bowler.

the 340+ runs...if Pakistan with their batting can make those runs...India with their superior batting could also make those runs..records are made to be broken. Regardless of the total, Amir still had to bowl those beauties...the ball to Rohit Sharma, the signature movement back in off the seam to trap him infront, same with kohli that had him beaten all ends up and to get him out TWICE in 2 balls... if Amir didnt make those early break throughs, Pakistan was NOT gonna win that match...

regarding the t20 WC 2010, amir was 18/19, only in the team a year...and even if he did go for 16 runs, he wasnt the reason we lost that game...it was bad captaincy, you shouldnt be bowling a spinner in the last over, cant put that one on Amir, 18 off the last over should be defended.... fact of the matter is....Boult has yet to show me that he has delivered on the biggest occasions under the biggest amount of pressure which is usually a world event final...he hasnt...when he got the chance to be a hero...he failed... once in the regular 50th over and once in the super over...Amir wouldnt have...again...FACT

This is kind of comparing Asif with Anderson. Who is better? In the dream world, Asif is better. In the real world, Asif was better for a small time until he stopped playing and Anderson got walkover.
 
Boult is the superior bowler here, more committed and has more pedigree.

Amir is way inferior to Boult in terms of quality, stats, impact and everything good.
Only thing Amir better than Boult is fixing and controversies.
Amir is probably the most overrated cricketer ever played the game.
 
Amir is & will always be miles ahead of Boult if ditching your country for $$ are concerned.

Because, Pakistanis are the most talented around, but they just don’t apply it for whatever reason. There is a statement we use around here “Hard work will beat talent when talent don’t work hard.”
 
Boult has played all 3 proper cricketing formats for his country for over a decade.

Amir now plays T10s and whines about life.

Because only Pakistani players can rule the roost when it comes to these intangible variables: raw talent, X-factor, etc. :batman:

By the way, Boult doesn't operate with a fake age either.

Boult won his team the inaugural test championship and is an important part of the #1 test team in the world.
 
Trent Boult and Tim Southee both are better than any bowler Pakistan has produced since Shoaib Akhtar.
 
It is embarassment for class bowler like Boult to be compared to Amir
