Mohammad Amir vs Mohammad Irfan, who is the better first over bowler? Who gives a better start?

I remember, when irfan came back into the odi team, he always made sure he picked a wicket or two right in his first over.
Even if he didnt take a wicket, his first over would be soo lovely to watch that one would go ohhing and awwing.

He was a disaster in his end spells though.

Amir also has been wonderful lately with his first over spells.

Difference between both is, amir sets it up with a spell and irfan takes one right in his first up. Well thats how i think it goes.

But who would you choose for the first over the game? Who do you think gives a better opening start to his team from a bowlers prospective?

Amir is better. Irfan became obsessed with bowling short . Amir can also keep it tight as well.

You must be thinking of Irfan when he first came into the side. From memory, he was pretty average in more recent times.

To answer your question, I would go for Amir. When he gets that ball to shape in the first over it is a sight to behold.

Irfan was absolutely useless cricketer overall. Can't score a single run and such a pathetic fielder easily the worst in the world and less you talk about his fitness the better it is so no point discussing him for anything related to cricket.

Amir's leg befores-the ones which swing back in to the right hander are absolutely deadly and beautiful to watch. Rohit Sharma looks like a walking wicket when Amir bowls that.

Amir is the winner in this case but his 2010 form is definitely making its way back. He was getting them a lot back in 2010 but not so much now but I think he's getting better and better now. Can't wait to see him play again.

It's Apple and Oranges comparison.

Amir is once in a generation talent, on song, he is irresistible and as good as it can get in any format with new ball. His late in swing is deadly, mostly at pace of 140+ clicks, skiddish and at fuller length and that too in first over, only Strac can top that, no once else can ATM.

Irfan was not fit enough to play, kind of height advantage he had, that was massive, he could not use 1/3 of it practically. Fully fit Irfan, bowling medium pace( with his frame) at 145 clicks was more like 160, with bounce and lift from fuller length, was terrifying for everybody. If he could run like Akthar(at peak), ball will go at 170 clicks and nobody would want to be batsman at other end. But most of that is hypothetical

Amir. Irfan was nothing special other then his height that he often used to his advantage. That is not talent.

Irfan was 7ft 1inches, yet he still didn't utilise his height as well as he should have. He is a sort of brainless bowler. Yes he did utilise his height in some instances but when the going was tough he was a nothing bowler.

Amir is miles ahead. 1st over, 2nd over, 50th over, 99th over. Regardless, Amir over Irfan in all aspects.

im not talking about overall. In overall circumstances irfan is no where near amir.

Im talking about who would you choose for an early start, an early breakthrough from the first over.

I would select 2012-2014 Mohammad Irfan to open the bowler for me instead of post-ban Mohmad Amir despite the fact that the latter is a much better overall player.

Irfan in form was better in first few overs. Due to the steep bounce, and the height of the ball coming in, very difficult to play properly and get used to. Irfan also wasn't exactly a slouch, was at decent pace early on.

After the first spell, Irfan usually turned to garbage, lost pace and often didn't complete 10 overs.

Of course Amir is the better bowler, batsman, fielder than Irfan. It was a big mistake to play a guy who you couldn't even know if he could complete 10 overs. Meant we were in big trouble when he couldn't/had to pick an extra bowler to cover.
