Comments: This is a comprehensive detailed listing of Mohd Amir’s performances from his comeback into the Pakistan team in 2016 to today. Out of this list as you can see he has played 162 matches for Pakistan internationally, domestic cricket and for other foreign leagues. Out of these 162 matches, he has exhibited around 39-40 good/decent performances but has displayed 122 avg/poor performances.

Were these the returns the PCB had anticipated from Amir in 2014-15 when they decided to fight hard with the ICC for leniency, to fast track him back to domestic cricket and international cricket. Are these the returns that were expected from the second coming of Wasim Akram?

It is not like Amir has not enjoyed rest in matches, he has been rested from certain test matches, inconsequential ODI’s and T-20’s. The coach he loves to praise i.e. Mickey Arthur is the one who had bowled him to the ground.

But tell me, based on these performances, can you really blame both Misbah and Waqar for wanting to move on from him and looking to invest in the future? Can you really blame the PCB for finally waking up, smelling the coffee and no longer buying into the myth that Amir is a world class bowler?

Jeez, you put in a lot of effort just to prove that Amir is the worst bowler out of the current bowlers who are in NZ. Whilst you’re at it, can you also tell us how many catches have been dropped of his bowling in each game? Thanks.

You are trying to imply that no catch of other’s bowling has been dropped. Indeed initially there were a lot of drops in 2015-2017(also of other bowlers who didn’t complained) but I am pretty sure in last 20 games there may be max 3-4 drops (don’t remember actually any) and pretty sure in his last t20i no catch was dropped and in his second over he looked disinterested in bowling hence injured....
whenever the tide is against he becomes injured

Must be a very crap bowler if he can't get unassisted wickets on his own

The only other bowler I can think of that’s had as many dropped catches of his bowling is Wahab Riaz.

I don’t remember the likes of Shaheen, Hassan Ali and others having catches dropped of their bowling.

If you’re telling me out all the bowlers in NZ right now, that Amir is the worst out of them then I’m afraid I’ll have to leave it there. You pick your best players.

Lol as if Imran, Wasim, Waqar, Shoaib never had dropped catches. So Pakistani fielders dropped catches of his bowling in 122 avg, poor matches? Okay then

A wicket is a wicket, you don’t get extra points for getting a batsman bowled :)

You get counted as world class if you can take the fielders out of the equation. The likes of Imran, Wasim, Waqar, Shoaib could. Amir can't which means he is extremely over rated as 122 poor matches out of 162 matches he has appeared in the last 5 years shows

Bro, forget about those guys, let’s focus on the current bowlers. Musa gets picked over Amir, can you justify that selection?

What’s Musa done that Amir hasn’t?

What’s Hasnain done that Amir hasn’t done?

What’s Sohail Khan done that Amir hasn’t done?

What’s Wahab Riaz done that Amir hasn’t done?

Amir hasn’t been dropped because of his form, he’s been dropped because he chose to retire from white ball cricket, just like Wahab Riaz. If Amir had taken a u-turn like Wahab was forced to do, then he’d be in the squad.

Again, why are you comparing Amir to those guys? Completely different era, back then it was easier to pick up wickets with no DRS. In those days you only had one ball in ODI’s which meant it was easier to reverse. You know better than I do it was easier being a bowler back in those days that it is now.

I don’t know about all the games but I vividly remember in the first t20 back there were like 4 halwa catches dropped off his bowling with different batsman (too lazy to check, how many batsmen) and this was the story in his first few games. Decent bowling but a bucket load of drops as if he was cursed by someone.

Just wanted to add that. Rest of the games, the stats speak for themselves.

Have to question your bias or wisdom when your deciding the ratings of each performance .

For example you have rated a t20 performance of 1/25 in 4 overs as poor.

Last time checked going at 6 an over in a t20 was considered to be pretty good!

I thought the second coming of Wasim Akram was expected to pick up wickets, in that case a bench mark of 3 wickets minimum in an ODI and T-20 game is appropriate. So much hype and expectations for an otherwise extremely garbage over rated cricketer whom the PCB have rightfully moved on from

None of these guys have retired from test cricket, none of these guys have bitched about Misbah, Waqar, the PCB upon not being picked, these guys have gone back to domestic cricket and put in the hard yards. Wahab hasn't taken any U-turn, he has kept his mouth shut and played cricket quietly whereas Amir has tried to play the sympathy card and is delusional in thinking that he can force the PCB into picking him as if he is the second coming of Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Shoaib Akhtar and co.

Bechara Amir, a conspiracy. The fielders deliberately chose to drop those catches of his bowling. The PCB, Misbah, Waqar have rightfully dropped Amir based on the stats available.

What is his overall average in Tests since his comeback ? I am sure he was called back expecting to do wonders especially in Test Matches.

Since 2018 , Pakistan have been the best catching side in tests. Not sure dropped catches are an excuse for Aamir.

So what if he retired from test cricket? If he was useless and his performances weren’t good then why did Misbah and Waqar make a big deal out of it?

Hold on a second, wasn’t it Waqar Younis who came out and said both Amir and Wahab betrayed us ahead of the England tour? If your bowling coach comes out and attacks you in the media, then you have every right to respond. Waqar should’ve shut his big mouth and if he had a problem with Amir and Wahab quitting test cricket then he could’ve spoken to them privately, it’s what you call professionalism.

Wahab took a U-Turn (he literally retired from test cricket at the same time as Amir did), he knew he wouldn’t be picked for the England tour had he not made himself available for Test cricket. Misbah tried to force Amir to take a U-Turn as well but Amir stood his ground. Amir was left out of the England tour not because of form or performances, but because he stood up to Misbah and Waqar.

Regardless of whether Misbah and Waqar were justified in commenting on Amir or not, ultimately Misbah is the CS and he has the right to drop Amir on account of form and if he feels Amir is not bowling at his best.

Its Amirs job to perform at a world class level in whichever cricket he was playing, making snide remarks against the PCB, the CS and the bowling coach when he is a centrally contracted player is not going to create confidence in the team management to recall you especially when you are not bowling at a world class level in the leagues you are playing in.

Amir stood his ground and so did the PCB, Waqar and Misbah. No complaints and no big loss to Pakistan because Amir was not making a difference to the team in any case

Man Savak supporting Misbah for the first time. 2020 is real.

Good thread OP. It is always good to see data rather than opinions.

Looks like Amir turned up in 3 or 4 places when it mattered and made a big impact.

But overall, not what was expected post return.

Fair enough. He had a decent career with some unbelievably memorable moments. Let's remember him like that.

Too much of Amir's support is just based on opinion, hype, expectations but not on reality i.e. the actual data and the stats which speak for themselves. It's no surprise that the PCB, Misbah, Waqar and co had enough of supporting Amir and have eventually been forced to treat him just like any other bowler playing for Pakistan.

It reminds me of how much excitement, hype Mohd Sami carried in 2002-2003-2004 when he was bowling at 145-150 km/hr plus and matching Akhtar for speed but eventually his lack of performances, impact frustrated everyone and the PCB, team management were forced into dropping him for good and labelling him as a TTF.

The tragedy of the Amir saga is that the PCB fast tracked him in 2015 and the bowlers who served Pakistan Cricket honestly while he was out of the side for 5 years i.e. Junaid Khan, Rahat Ali, Imran Khan, Mohd Irfan and others just fell way down the pecking order while golden boy got preferential team, first name on the list selection game after game regardless of whether he performed or not.

After the champions league final against India I personally haven't enjoyed seeing him bowl. No pace rarely any swing he had control but I didn't enjoy watching him so when he was dropped this time I was not surprised or disappointed. He was hard done by the drop catches when he came back into the team but I didn't saw any growth from him rather he has became worse than when he first came back. In a way it was good he was dropped before the NZ tour as on these helpful pitches he might have had 1 or 2 good matches and we would be stuck with his below avg performances for the next 3-4 years.

Close to 37. Hardly the stuff of legends.

Wow. I keep referring to him as a 30-averaging fraud but if the number is closer to 37, he's more abysmal than even I thought.

Absolutely love your post mate! Can this be shown to this blackmailer and put him in his place?

Would have been nice to know if he actually won any games out of his good performances as well?

Out of his good, decent performances Pakistan or the franchise he was representing only won like 16-17 games out of the 162 games he has played during the past 5 years. Anyone who calls this conman joker a match winner needs to be charged with blasphemy

Would be good to get a thread like this for Rauf, Shaheen, Hassan and Hasnain. Savak 🙂

I invite Savak again, please could you make a thread similar to this for Shaheen, Hassan, Hasnain, Rauf, Faheem and Wahab.

Make sure you include *Demolished by SA B Team.

Amir may not be an ATG level bowler but he is the best bowler in Pakistan and we desperately need him back. A bowling attack of amir, shaheen, hasan, imad and qadir/shadab would be ideal for the world t20 and gives us a chance to compete with teams like India and England. Our batting in recent times seems to be pretty settled but I'm concerned our bowlers will be torn to pieces on the flat Indian wickets.
This bowling attack that played today will go for 220+ against top teams 99 times out of 100. England could break more world records against these nothing bowlers. Good luck chasing 300

Amir isn't any better or worse than then pacers chosen. He too has been taken to the cleaners in recent times. For me he doesn't look fit even in T20 games.

Whoever has made a thread is really under rating him.How is bowling at an eco of less than 7 in t20s for as fast bowler poor performance. If it is than Bumrah might also have performed poorly in most games

What a ridiculous "rating" system lol

Anything below 7.5 an over in T20s is awesome. You're rated so many good performances as "average" or "poor" it's laughable.

People will always revert back to Amir whenever Pakistan bowling gets pumped.

Remember, Amir chose to retire from cricket meaning he is unavailable.

By all means he is a good bowler, but one needs to move on from a player who chooses himself not to be eligible for selection.

Lol if you want to play Amir, make him have the Keeper stand up to the stumps so that his fast spinners are effective

Imagine if he was playing vs South Africa instead of Hasnain or Rauf. He can swing it both ways, something that even Afridi can't. Amir can also bat as well as Faheem Ashraf and Nawaz. He is only 29 years old.

Why doesn't the PCB speak to him and find out what the issue is? What a waste of talent.

Amir has been rubbish for quite a while. Point to note is that these same bowlers in the national team at the moment, outperformed him quite comfortably in both the National T20 and the PSL recently.

TBH, I expected this response from you after our bowlers got smashed to pieces. Once we get humiliated when we play against the bigger teams, you’ll come to a realisation that maybe Amir wasn’t a bad choice after all.

You can’t call yourself a fan of Pakistan cricket if you’re ok with seeing mediocre players play ahead of players who are respected by the best in the game. (Kohli, Smith etc)
