Mohammad Irfan to appear before Anti-Corruption Tribunal on Tuesday [Update #91]

I like Sohail Khan and Hasan Ali, but I barely ever see them reach 140kph never mind 150. I don't know where this figure came from but if Hasan has ever reached that it must have been a freak delivery. In T20's both are usually bowling at around mid 130s like 95% of Pakistan's pace bowlers.

all of this musing may rendered mute as more name come out.

They're all guilty and really silly of the others to protest it especially Sharjeel, Khalid and Shahzaib.

Nasir Jamshed will be sentenced for life, meanwhile these 3 would be going for 2 years at least if not more.

The longer it takes for the final verdicts to be out on the case and the more complicated this whole mess gets as the time goes it, the more unfortunate the situations becomes, because if the accused are indeed guilty then we'll have to say bye to a couple of great prospects, while if they turn out to be innocent then PCB, PSL and everyone else involved need to really have a hard look at themselves and the kind of damage they have caused to the players in question, for no reason whatsoever.

lets say sharjeel got 1 year ban.
so his ban start from the day he got suspended (i.e after 1st match of psl)or from the day the pcb announce his punishment?

Because he is probably guilty.

Irfan is charged differently than Sharjeel/Khalid/Shahzaib. For Irfan's charges the minimum punishment is 6 months. For Sharjeel/Khalid/Shahzaib's charges the minimum punishment is 5 years.

Yes of failure to report and not fixing. Will get 6months ban.

then how come reporting an approach get min. 5 years ban for shahzaib... Only way that is possible could be that he must have fixed already and then informed PCB after sharjeel and khalid got caught... If that is so, PCB needs to prove it outright otherwise cant simply give him 5 years ban... because in the outside world it was known that only shahzaib reported an approach to the PCB...

Reports say that Mohammad Irfan to appear before Anti-Corruption Tribunal on Tuesday

LAHORE - Lanky pacer M Irfan has decided not to challenge Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) notice and extended his all-out cooperation to the board in probing the real culprits.

The suspended fast bowler during the second edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) admitted all the allegations leveled on him. He has decided not to challenge the notice of charge issued to him by the PCB. He assured the cricket board that whenever and wherever the board needed his help in getting any kind of information and facts regarding the spot-fixing, he would made him available for it.

The sources confirmed to this scribe that M Irfan has formally informed the Pakistan Cricket Board about it. “After admitting the charges leveled against Irfan, now the PCB will form a disciplinary committee to hear his case thoroughly. Now the committee will decide whether to take stern action against the pacer, give a light punishment or forgive him for helping the board in finding out other culprits or forgive him,” they said.

“After Irfan’s admitting his involvement in spot-fixing, now the three-member committee will decide about the fixing case, not the PCB tribunal,” the sources added.

Earlier, Irfan and Shahzaib were suspended by the PCB on the doubts but later the cricket board allowed Irfan to play the league. Later, Irfan admitted that he was approached by the bookies but he never did what was asked and also lamented that he didn’t inform the cricket board which was a sheer violation of its code of conduct. For this violation, the pacer was issued a notice of charge by the PCB and after appearing in front of PCB tribunal as well as FIA, Irfan now has admitted his involvement in the spot-fixing.

The sources said that Irfan’s confession would change the whole scenario of the spot-fixing case, as it was being expected that new Pandora’s box would open and the big fish would be hunted.

Irfan seeks one more day to submit reply in PSL fixing scam

LAHORE: Fast bowler Mohammad Irfan has failed to submit his reply to defend himself against charges of spot-fixing and is seeking one more day for submitting his reply to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Irfan was supposed to submit his reply to the PCB’s Anti-corruption Unit after 14 days but at the end of deadline, he appeared at the Gaddafi Stadium on Tuesday afternoon to ask for permission of one more day for submission of his reply.

It is learnt that Irfan’s reply has got some lacuna which he is keen to get corrected. He was, therefore, granted time until Wednesday to submit his reply.

The giant paceman is facing the charge on not reporting approach from the bookies during the PSL in Dubai to the PCB for which he could face six months to a life ban.

Besides Irfan, four other cricketers in Sharjeel Khan, Khalif Latif, Shahzaib Hasan and Nasir Jamshed are also named in the same fixing scandal with Nasir facing the chargesof playing the role of a facilitator between the players and a bookie named Mohammad Yousuf who is a London-based Pakistani.

Meanwhile, Nasir will be grilled by the PCB’s Anti-corruption Unit in London next week since the discarded batsman is unable to travel to Pakistan because the British authorities have already seized his passport in the PSL scam case.

If true then that's an awfully quick judgement. That being said I suppose not telling the rightful authorities about the bookies was more than enough too.

I honestly can see the same for the rest too.

I can see Sharjeel/Latif getting 18-to-24 months ban and Jamshed getting a 5-year ban, if not a life ban.

I'm just going by what the evidence says [atm] about Sharjeel/Latif meeting a bookie etc.

The punishment should fit the crime as well. Irfan's only crime was that he didn't report the bookie to PCB. A one year ban and 1 million fine seems fair to me. It's not like Irfan spot-fixed or match-fixed.

Remember Shane Warne and Mark Waugh who accepted bookie money in exchanging for information. They only got a private fine by Cricket Australia at that time and let go. Irfan's crime is not serious and certainly not up to the level of Warne and Waugh's. A 1 million fine and a one year ban is more than fair!!!

And ineligible to play for Pakistan team for 1 year...

If he does complies with all the clauses of the punishment than he will be eligible for domestic and international selection from 14-09-2017.

This is a nothing punishment.

He was not approached once. He was approached twice. He failed to report on both ocassions. One of the approaches was made before Australian tour when he was picked for national team.

After such a PSL he was not in contention for either West Indies tour or champions trophy (performance based). He only missed out on Pakistan Cup appearance and a fine of 1 million rupees. That's it.

If you do " Muq Muqqa " with those who matter it works fine.

Anyways his International Cricket was almost over. He is down hill since 2014. He was a treat to watch in Pakistan tours of India and South Africa where he was a major reason of us winning and it was because of his serious pace and bounce where mostly he bowled in the range of 87 to 93 mph.

Last two injuries and long lat off's resulted in him losing 8-10 kph and losing his strength.

What are the known offences?
Irfan didn't report?

The others didn't report but also met bookies?

I think Shahzaib won't face a ban.

Sharjeel and Latif around 1-2 year ban.

Nasir Jamshed 4-6 years.

I don't remember exactly what Sharjeel and Latif got banned for. My initial read-through was it was for not reporting said meeting/messages with a bookie. But I could be wrong.

Irfan didn't report talking to a bookie [twice?].

Well at least he says he did nothing wrong.... so there's that
