Rs. 127.30 per liter.

This is the same party whose leader used to block roads and do dharnas while being in a befuddle state and claiming that the govt was charging more price of petrol and he would cause it go lower.

Sad day for Pakistan and it happened under the same guy who bashed the previous govts and made false promises.

They even tried to defend this move in the govt issued notification that its still the lowest in the region, thus expect the overseas fan boys who are unaffected to start defending him here.

Bhai it wouldve happened if anyone else was incharge. Pakistan is an unlucky country one side you have India and the other side you have Afghanistan. The worst neighbors anyone could ask for. I really feel for Pakistan and Pakistanis sometimes.

We are in a state of war. Things are not as peaceful as it seems.

Money is needed desperately to protect everything. There really is no scope to give relief to the people I am afraid

What do you expect prices to fall? Prices always rise due to price of crude rising which is out of the govts hand, transport costs and also inflation The govt also have to tax it

The uk fuel prices have steadily risen in the UK too In the yr 2000 at the time of the uk fuel crisis and protests on price the avge price for fuel was around 80p a litre and now anywhere between 120p and 135p

To bash the govt on this is crazy

I am paying close to 300rps per litre. Its called the international oil price and unless you have an answer, what is the point of the thread

and where was this crazy when international prices were rising back in 2017? At that time it was conspiracy of the nawaz shareef govt according to ur beloved Imran Khan.

Also, the high price of petrol is due to the blunder of the PTI govt in 2020. When global petrol prices reduced due to excessive supply and limited demand due to lockdowns, petrol prices had drastically reduced. However, this drop in price was always going to be temporary as when the lockdowns were to be over the price would had been back at equilibrium.

Our govt back in 2020 made the biggest mistake was by slashing Rs.30 altogether on Petrol and bringing it to Rs. 80. Yes the consumer got relief temporary but the effect on that was as soon as the price would be back at equilibrium, the price of petrol would rise, and that rise on the price of petrol would had caused more inflation, because disinflation rarely happens, prices of products rarely go down with cost push inflation. Petrol prices is one of the factors in cost push inflation.

Now by adding that extra inflation with now this, the country is facing massive inflation.

Govt could had bared the increased price by removing some tax or reducing the tax rate. But nope, they did not. They are interested in charging how taxes on every thing and making things more expensive.

Currently, about Rs.30 is charged as tax per liter.

The OP has zero idea. Energy prices in general have been rising; in Uk alone some price have risen by 400%. Yup, blame it on PTI too.

Someone let the op know the fuel duty paid on a litre of petrol in the uk. It's in the 80%+ bracket.

I dont care what you do in foreign countries. You earn according to the conditions there, you make your money according to the conditions there and pay prices according to the conditions there.

No point of doing country comparison as the rate of inflation and adjustment that is done against inflation is different in every country.

Pakistan doesnt have an official minimum wage set. People earn as low as Rs.10, 000 to Rs. 15, 000 K.

But I doubt the overseas or the PM himself to know the ground realities. In their minds, everyone makes the minimum wage that is about 21k set in the budget which no company follows.

As usual, to protect the PTI govt we get overseas Pakistanis comparing Oranges with Apples.

Again, no point in making comparisons with UK, USA or Africa due to the salary rates there. Here with the poverty and people making Rs. 10,000 - 15,000 monthly, govt is suppose to cut down on the taxes that they are charging on petrol and petroleum products.

But than again, dont expect anyone of you to understand this point. As you might think that people here have same salaries as to the people of UK thus make weird comparisons with developed countries regarding petrol prices.

Pls stop.

You have no idea what is driving up prices. It's not a PTI phenomenon; prices are rising world wide due to inflation (look up what contributes to inflation) and oil prices hit 80 usd a barrel for the first time in 3 years.

PTI fans are like BJP ones, opposition main it was Congress fault and BJP time its Global oil prices 🤣

Are you saying that PK lives outside the International Oil price hikes- if the govt doesnt hike this, tell me how do you subsidise the price of petrol.

PTI fans are like BJP ones, opposition main it was Congress fault and BJP time its Global oil prices

Our complaint was and remains that the guys he supports have stolen billions and its the reason PK has been left in the position it has. When Mush left 2008, PK Foreign Debt was only $37bn, not great but not out of control, when the the mafia left it was a $109bn. That means that we are paying over $10bn+ in interest each yr and we didnt build a single dam, our power stations are owned by mafia companies and all this is due to systemic corruption by people Major supports.

correction, the tax being levied is between Rs. 17-20

Which by International standard is incredibly low. Just like it took a decade for the PPP and Nooras to undue Mushs decent work, it will take a decade to put it right.

Are you saying that PK lives outside the International Oil price hikes- if the govt doesnt hike this, tell me how do you subsidise the price of petrol.

Pakistan has suffered from cost push inflation. Any increase in petrol prices will result in more inflation.

I am not saying Pakistan lives outside international oil prices, i am saying that posters who come here and compare their US and UK lifestyle and prices cannot do that as the money earned by the people in the UK isnt at the same rate as people in Pakistan get.

The govt keeps on making foolish errors just to win the hearts of the awaam. What they dont know is that every mistake the govt cost adds the inflation rate up.

Let me give you the example of 2020. There was no need to reduce the prices by Rs.30. When the prices were low govt could had just replaced it with tax to make a quick buck. The reason for that is everyone knew that the markets were in disequilibrium, and in few months time the prices would be right back into its places. When that was to happen, obviously with the reduction in price in the first place and than an increase in price after wards would had resulted into other industries that use petrol to increase their prices by 1 to 2 percent. That minimal increase in price as its effects on the overall inflation.

That was the first mistake they did.

Now the mistake they are doing in 2021 is that, the petrol prices is expected to fall down by 2022. Govt could reduce the tax it charges and wait till 2022 when the prices are to fall.

What people fail to understand is that every increase in price of petrol results in an increase in the commodities that use petrol for its production.

Another problem that happened this year was Govt kept on increasing prices of petrol for the past 2 months. The regular increase again causes to prices inflate.

And before someone says that when petrol prices would go down commodities would also be cheaper. NO, it doesnt happen that way. Prices of commodities dont go down. They just stay the same or stable till the next price increase.

PTI fans are like BJP ones, opposition main it was Congress fault and BJP time its Global oil prices

true.

This same govt used to block roads and stand on containers crying about the petrol prices.

WHen market prices went down, Imran Khan even took credit for it saying that he placed pressure on the govt which resulted in prices going down.

Inflation keeps going up..............

Firstly, inflation is a problem world wide, in PK its a bigger problem because we have a profiteering mafia in cahoots with opposition. You need to look no further than the price of Sugar rising when Diesel did his long march in early 2019. My gas and electric bills have risen from around £1000 a yr to over £1500 with the new contract, and i have already talked about the cost of petrol here. Food prices are also rising and expected to go higher in the near future.

As far as cutting the price of petrol when oil prices were low, all i would say is that, if they hadnt reduced the prices you would have been the 1st to say that IK was stealing the money.

PK has lived well beyond its means for decades, and loans have masked the disaster and now we have are reliant on our workers to pay for the imports, just imagine what would happen without our $30bn a year. Just like it took decade for the PPP and Nooras to borrow billions, steal, and launder to destroy , it will take a decade for it to be rebuilt. Start with productive industries and export, and use import substitution where ever possibly. There is no easy answer.

But IK didnt launder billions, your friends in the PPP have billions abroad, stolen from the poor of PK and Sindh in particular, ask them to bring the loot back.

The biggest failure of PTI government might be failing to introduce systemic reforms so we can increase tax net and number of income tax payers. That’s what I hoped PTI would do and thus government would not had to depend on indirect taxation like fuel prices. A very significant portion of this per litre price is not due to crude cost but due to taxes.

We are already an incredibly unequal society and this indiscriminate indirect taxation further fuels inequality.

again, we loss on importing and exporting aswell.

we devalue our currency in the hopes of making an extra buck by exporting products but in reality we suffer through it more. Our focus is always on the BOP when it should not be.

Curtail the cost push inflation, and most of our financial problems could be solved. The country doesnt realize that when we devalue the currency, our inflation increases as we import each and everything that is used in production for different goods.

Yeh, and tareen has a sugar mill that keeps hoarding and playing with the price.

Oil, gas, energy etc are seeing a historic spike in their price point at the moment, this is a global issue.

The OP needs a hug. He will hold it against the IK about Misbah being brutally kicked on his behind

127 PKR is still less than 1 USD. 74 cents. Pretty good deal tbh.Don’t know What the fuss is about.

Petrol is very cheap in Pakistan when compared to what other countries pay.

Here are the prices for a litre in USD as of 27-Sep-2021.

Pakistan - 0.727
India - 1.389
Bangladesh - 1.041
Nepal - 1.103
Sri Lanka - 0.920
US - 0.935
UK - 1.870
Israel - 2.037

Pakistanis are not entitled to cheap petrol. If anything IK should raise the prices, and end the subsidy.

Most countries tax petrol. Pakistanis are getting a good deal compared to what others pay.

Exactly I don’t know why the fuss about petrol as it is an inflationary item which will always rise over time and anyway it is far cheaper in Pakistan.

For some things it does not matter where you live, or what yo earn, you will pay the same price. For example Emirates is not going to give people in Pakistan a better price to fly to the US, compared to those living in the US.

It’s also low because PKR is at its weakest at any point in history

It's also low because the petrol diesel in pakistan is off an inferior quality and not pure , it has been mixed and diluted with many things that eventually mess up the engine .

ISLAMABAD: Defending the hike in petrol prices, Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin on Friday said the rates of petroleum products in Pakistan are still lower when compared to several regional countries.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad alongside Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib, Tarin said the government is charging only Rs2-2.5 petroleum levy despite the fact that we had fixed Rs600 billion under this head.

He said Pakistan ranks 17th in the region when it comes to petrol prices.

“Prices in the international market have increased recently forcing the government to hike local prices,” he said, a day after the petrol price was jacked up by Rs4 per litre and that of high speed diesel (HSD) by Rs2 per litre.

The minister blamed the previous government for the ills the country is facing today. "Pakistan became a food importer due to mismanagement during the last 30 years. We are currently importing wheat, sugar and pulses."

Shaukat Tarin said Prime Minister Imran Khan stopped the ministry from increasing the levy as he wanted to lessen the burden on the masses. "This is the reason we want to give direct subsidy to the lower-income group."

He said the PTI government is undertaking efforts to enhance agricultural output.

The minister further said that steps are being taken to control the prices of commodities. In six days, the minister assured that prices of ghee will come down to Rs 300 per kg.

Tareen lamented that when it comes to commodities, the middleman earns huge profits. He said that the administration is restoring the post of price magistrate to reduce inflation.

Crediting the steps taken by the government for tax collection, he said the FBR has achieved more revenue than the target it was given. “If the economy grows, its effects will be visible to the people.”

IMF programme
Shaukat Tareen said the government is taking a big comprehensive plan to the IMF.

“I hope we will be heard in the IMF. We will have talks on revenue and the power sector.”

Noting that the revenue collection has increased up to 40%, he admitted that there are challenges in the power sector.

“Increasing power tariff is not the solution,” he said.

‘Petrol bomb’
Meanwhile, PPP's Senator Sherry Rehman has slammed the government for dropping a “petrol bomb” on the masses in times of extreme inflation.

She said that petrol prices now stand at Rs127.3/L while during the PPP’s govt in 2013, international oil prices remained high due to the global financial crisis, yet the price at home was nowhere close to the tsunami it is now.

“PTIMF is the opposite of what it promised: it does exactly what IMF says, borrows like no govt before and tells people the good days are here.”

Again, comparison means nothing.

The currency is heavily devalued, so offcourse against that it woul seem cheap.

But you have to compare prices with the income of the people. Income isnt adjusted to inflation. People here earn 15-20 k. Even 30k isnt enough living in pakistan.

Exactly I don’t know why the fuss about petrol as it is an inflationary item which will always rise over time and anyway it is far cheaper in Pakistan.

Our selected pm used to do protest and cause a lockdown between cities on this point that previous govt has made petrol expensive on purpose.

Pti did an election campaign on this point. Funny thing is the same issue keeps on coming to bite them right back.

Now no one on the pti can explain these problems and hide behind the international prices thing.

Nonsense from the OP, the whole world is struggling to get their economies back on track after all this covid stuff over the last few years, Petrol prices have risen in every single country worldwide, the uneducated will always put the blame on their chosen scapegoat regardless of what happens.

Start using electric vehicles because petrol prices will keep increasing in the future as well. :inti

PTI fans are like BJP ones, opposition main it was Congress fault and BJP time its Global oil prices

You're absolutely right.
This is because they're at completely different extremes of the political spectrum and hence have passionate supporters.

People have a lot of money in Pakistan. They waste money away in marriages and other useless traditions. The poor class does not care as they don't use vehicles they use buses same goes for the middle class and rich people can afford it since in Pakistan they do not pay taxes. I think life is OK. Oust PTI in the next election if you are not satisfied with their performance. In Germany, fruits are so expensive 3.50 euros I KG- at the same price convert it in Pakistan you can buy a lot of fruits. Germans look at them in the grocery store from a distance but they do not criticize their government.

Petrol hits record level of Rs127 per litre

Diesel dearer by Rs2 per litre, LDO by Rs 8.82 per litre

The government on Thursday increased the price of petrol by Rs4 per litre taking its price to a record level of Rs127.30 per litre.

Petrol is used in cars and motorbikes and is an alternate to compressed natural gas (CNG) in the country. It also increased the price of high speed diesel by Rs2 per litre.

Now, it will be available at Rs122.04 per litre as against the previous rate of Rs120.04 per litre.

It is widely used in transport and agriculture sectors and will have a direct impact on inflation.

Also read: Petrol, diesel prices jacked up by Rs5

The government has also made a record increase in price of kerosene oil that is used for cooking purpose in remote areas like northern parts of the country where Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is not available.

Its price has gone up from Rs92.26 to Rs99.31 per litre registering an increase of Rs7.05 per litre.

The government also increased the price of light diesel oil (LDO) by Rs8.82 per litre.

Its price has jumped up to Rs99.51 per litre as against Rs90.69 per litre. It is used in industry.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) calculates ex-depot prices of petroleum products in view of the rate of petroleum levy and general sales tax. The petroleum products are a significant contributor to taxes as the government is currently charging a double tax. It is charging a petroleum levy and general sales tax, resulting in higher prices.

The government in a statement said that due to increase in price of oil in the international market and variation of exchange rate during the last fortnight, Ogra had worked out the higher increase in oil prices.

But Prime Minister Imran Khan decided against the recommendation of Ogra and passed on minimum increase in price of oil to the consumers.

The finance ministry added that oil prices in Pakistan were still cheaper than in the region.

 typical response from our overseas breathren.

Pakistan has a major portion living in rural. The elite class that you refer here makes a very small percentage.

Even in urban cities people have rs. 15 to 30 k as salary.

Also, petrol is a factor in the prices of alot of other products. Every mill taht ises petrol they will increase their price.

Foreign countries adjust the salary agains the inflation. Pakistan doesnt do that. Thus ur fruit theory makes no sense here

That's another issue altogether and I only wondered at the fuss. It is less than other subcontinental countries.

The fuss is, petrol adds to the cost of othrr goods. The fuss is we have an inflation that keeps rising. The fusss is you lot compare pakistan to other countries yet dont even know what the salary is in pakistan, everyone who has made a comparison in yhis thread dont know about the reality of pakistan. Yet these people want to take part in our elections through foreign voting.

It’s also low because PKR is at its weakest at any point in history

These were prices converted into USD, so the low value of the PKR has nothing to do with why petrol prices are low in Pakistan. Its because Pakistanis are used to paying cheap prices for petrol, and its hard for any government to get rid of the subsidy.

If you look at the list on the below link you will see its mainly oil producing states that have lower prices than Pakistan.

https://www.globalpetrolprices.com/gasoline_prices/

That’s a fair point but from second term(most likely he will be back) IK should be criticized as well.

It all depends on the rigging. The 2017 elections were the most rigged.

That’s a fair point but from second term(most likely he will be back) IK should be criticized as well.

If IK fails PTI supporters will be willing to accept it. PTI support is primarily because all the other parties have failed, not to mention the generals. And the people of Pakistan wanted to try an alternative. The opposition have been criticizing IK since before he took office, and blaming him for problems that they themselves created.

I am paying 108 in India. It is going out of hand everywhere.

Some people forget that our petrol supply is not coming from Bani Gala?? World is going through one of worst disasters due to Covid and petrol prices have gone up substantially. The ONLY way to control price is by reducing the taxes. Tax during previous government was Rs52PL which has been reduced to Rs12 PL by current government. What else do people really expect government to do? They can bring it down to ZERO tax but eventually people will pay the price anyway??

The OP has zero idea. Energy prices in general have been rising; in Uk alone some price have risen by 400%. Yup, blame it on PTI too.

Someone let the op know the fuel duty paid on a litre of petrol in the uk. It's in the 80%+ bracket.

He is basically saying why people criticised Nawaz for fuel price hikes which is fair point to some extent but only issue is government tax on petrol during Nawaz government at peak was Rs52 while currently it has been reduced to Rs12 which is substantially reduced to minimise pressure on average person.

again, we loss on importing and exporting aswell.

we devalue our currency in the hopes of making an extra buck by exporting products but in reality we suffer through it more. Our focus is always on the BOP when it should not be.

Curtail the cost push inflation, and most of our financial problems could be solved. The country doesnt realize that when we devalue the currency, our inflation increases as we import each and everything that is used in production for different goods.

We devalue our currency because we don't have a choice. Please tell us your magic formula for avoiding the equilibrium exchange rate without expending billions of $ we don't have. Its the problem with illiteracy that tou dont understand the basics of an exchange rate. If you are educated people in PK, no wonder we are reliant on remittances.
Supply reform is needed and it needs to start with a strong laws against profiteering that are enforced.

That’s a fair point but from second term(most likely he will be back) IK should be criticized as well.

IK can do the basics and the reform of judiciary is a must. The judiciary is the mafia backbone and we can't progress with the mafia adjudicating. I don't see IK winning again.

Tbh he hasn’t given any reason to vote for him again.

He may be going against the mafia and whatnot but at the end of the day the common man is worse off now (forget why, the point is he is) and you can’t expect the common voter to go into such detailed nuances when voting someone out.

PTI has seemingly shifted their focus towards the overseas Pakistanis, begging them for investment and whatnot.

The situation in Pakistan is entirely different; they have lost a lot of support.

I don't see them faring well in the coming elections.

Hopefully whichever party is next can resurrect our economy and alleviate the pressures on the local citizens.

Overseas support is meaningless if local citizens are continuing to struggle.

IK is a positive guy but he was given a hospital pass by the mafia and none of the tools needed to fight the problems. Just imagine the criminals that created the problems back in power again.

This is a huge tax break , yet PPP supporters are blaming PTI. Lets be honest, PLMN and PPP ex workers only want this government out because they are no longer making money from corruption.

Imo PPP and PLMN workers should be investigated, rounded up and send to jail for corruption, not just the leaders.

Pakistan Foreign Loan.jpg

1. Please stop giving incorrect numbers. Pakistan's foreign loan was under $40BN in 2007 and it was around $80BN (and not $109 BN).

2. Guess what is Pakistan's foreign loan. It is $120+ BN now so the increase in foreign loans increased in the last 3 years is as much as the loan that increased in 10 years span (2008-2017/18). All the details are here:
https://tradingeconomics.com/pakistan/external-debt

3. The interest that the PTI govt is paying for the old loans did not apply to PPP and PML-N govt. Why do you conveniently ignore that?

4. How many dams were built during Mush time. The load-shedding issue came in his time and Pakistan was consistently getting foreign aid because of World in Terror.

The magic formula lies in all previous tweets of IK and his old speeches prior to him becoming PM.

Do you have the sources of these numbers that you are claiming? I want to understand how did this 52 PL value came up? Is it average value or the minimum value or the highest value?

Prices have gone up everywhere. I am paying Rs. 175 per liter in Canada. We cannot blame PTI govt for this.

And did one expect exports to be so low, imports to be so high, CAD to be out of control and and $70bn borrowed I a decade but no assets built. No one thought it was going to be as terrible as he found the country.

So a Noora arrives under a different name. Soon you will tell.me that NS is innocent, and SS and his sons didn't launder money.

When Nooras lie, they think we are all naive and stupid as they are. When IK took over it was $93bn, and the $12 bn was also Noora debt. In my book that makes it over $100bn. As Dar and Miftail said IK should have gone to the IMF straight away, if your crooks were so good, why would the need to go to the IMF?

Pakistan external debt for 2019 was $100,818,526,514, a 7.79% increase from 2018.
Pakistan external debt for 2018 was $93,531,752,991, a 8.72% increase from 2017.
Pakistan external debt for 2017 was $86,031,955,223, a 17.79% increase from 2016.
Pakistan external debt for 2016 was $73,041,126,773, a 9.52% increase from 2015.

Maybe it is the other way around where you think you can fool others with your false figures and they will accept it. You claimed that the foreign loan increased to $109 BN and I gave you a reality check & now you have come to accusations.

Just read the figures you have shared yourself. The loan at end of 2018 (when IK was serve for 5+ months) was $93 BN (not $109 BN). I am not including the loan that might have been taken during the caretaker government in 2018 as the same may also apply in tenure before PPP came into power (in 2008).

So, in other words, the loan jumped from nearly under $40 BN (which was value at end of 2007). I am even including the first few months where the PPP govt was not ruling the country then and adding the whole of 2018 in that year. So, in 12 years, the foreign loan increased by almost $53 BN (even I will round the under $40 BN figure to $40 BN).

And it has jumped from $93 BN to $120+ in less than 3 years. You can do the mathematics to calculate the average loan taken per year or can ask Asad Umar to help you as he is good with ratios.

So, you are saying that no one in PTI including Asad Umar was keeping an eye on these figures which were being openly published in the newspaper. Nice, tells a lot about the competency of this govt. Doesn't surprise me.

Do you agree with me that the 12bn loan IK took was a Noora loan or not?

But you said the loans when IK came was 80bn? And then I gave you a figure of 93bn and suddenly you changed your tune? Why

I mentioned it around $80 BN because that is what it shows in the graph I shared. That $80 BN figure might be around the end of 2017 or the first 2 months of 2018 or the first 6 months of 2017 but it was $93 BN at end of 2018 which included 5 months from PTI. And this $93 BN includes 3 months of CT govt and 5+ months of PTI. So for the sake of argument, I have added just to prove your figure of $109 BN wrong.

I am not changing my tune, it is other way around. I can laugh at your claims. Have proven you wrong that you shared incorrect figures so just admit and move on.

So you deliberately mislead and lied. You knew it was in the 90s but you tried to make you crooks look good. So once again to do you agree that the loan IK took at the start of his govt wasn't his loan, it was the Noora legacy loan because they left the country bankrupt.

The same liberty should also be given to PPP and PML-N when they took over. If you are comparing then it should be same parameters to everyone.

Haha @ deliberately mislead and lied. I explained it to you that it was around 80 BN from the figure I shared. It is not clear whether it is end of 2017 or mid of 2018. Yet, for sake of argument, I just agreed to your $93 BN to prove that your $109 BN is wrong.

It is who told lies, gave wrong figures, and accusing others for it when caught with pants down. Pretty common for a PTI supporter.

PML-N and PPP may both be crooks but even with that, they took far fewer loans than PTI govt who claims to have solutions for all problems. That tells a lot about the competency of PTI govt.

I must admit that I salute your courage for still supporting the PTI govt when almost all of their supporters are disappointed. Can I safely assume that you are not living in Pakistan so all the mess created due to this govt doesn't affect you?

What is per capita income of Pakistan and Canada?

And once PTI is out of power, do remember this logic because IK used to tell us something else when Dollar or Petrol Prices used to go up then.

Why you think the bolded part matters? Do you think oil producers sell Pakistan same amount of oil cheaper than Canada because Pakistan's per capita income is less than Canada? LOL

Because buying power matters. And I am referring to buying power of people of the country. So, the comparison is apple and orange comparison.

But for a moment, I accept that would you accept the same logic when it is applied in the future by future non-PTI government or for that matter, accept the same logic for past non-PTI governments as I am sure that would be the case then too. But unfortunately, IK did not use to tell us that then. He used to tell us that if petrol gets expensive then the govt is thief.

You lied about the 80bn and you have not shown any source for your assertion that part of the 93bn was taken under IK. And why are you running from a simple Question- the loan IK took to stop bankruptcy was a Noora loan. So add the Noora loan to the 93bn and what do you get?

And as far as supporting IK, well any person with the slightest ghairat would never support a crook on the run, and convicted daughter.
