LAHORE: All star cricketers will come to Pakistan to play in the eight matches of the fourth Pakistan Super League (PSL) scheduled for Karachi and Lahore, chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Ehsan Mani said here on Thursday.

The PSL matches will be staged from Feb 14 to March 17 at three venues — Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi — in the United Arab Emirates before the remaining fixtures move to Pakistan with Karachi staging five games, including the final, and Lahore three.

Talking to media on sidelines of a friendly cricket match between the Sports Journalists Association of Lahore (SJAL) and the UK-based Pakistani journalists at the Gaddafi Stadium, Mani said a good number of star cricketers had signed up in the six PSL franchises.

However, because of security concerns, prominent overseas players have been reluctant to travel to Pakistan. But with the passage of time, the number of prominent cricketers willing to visit Pakistan has risen. In the recent development the ex-South Africa captain A.B. de Villiers has already pledged to play two matches of Lahore Qalandars in Lahore on March 9 and 10.

To a query, Mani said the talks with Cricket Australia are still on to convince them to send their national side to Pakistan for two games of the five-match One-day International series in the UAE in March despite reports of Australia’s expressing their reluctance regarding playing here.

The PCB chief declared that he has persuaded CA to send a security delegation to assess the current situation in Pakistan before taking a final decision, which is expected to be taken before the PSL begins in the second week of February.

Mani further said that talks were on with the cricket boards of South Africa and England to send different age-group teams to Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Mani, who is also the chairman of the Prime Minister Task Force on Sports, said he had finalised the recommendations how to promote the sports in the country. He said his job was only to make suggestions and final authority to implement rests with the Prime Minister Imran Khan.

When asked why the task force didn’t take the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) and other national sports federations on board before finalising the recommendations, the chairman said that step was not necessary because the government have no power to interfere in the POA affairs.

Mani disclosed the main focus of his recommendations was to bring professionalism in the sports and that maximum professional people should be at the helm of affairs.

Among the recommendations is that the government should only give grants to those federations who are properly active at the domestic level, instead of seeking grants for just one international assignment, he added.

Mani said the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) is unjustifiably seeking funds from the government despite failing to present any comprehensive activity plan thus far.

Where has he confirmed the names of these star players?

And where he has confirmed that all of the star players will go to Pakistan?

Who are the big names in PSL? International names.

These are big names in PSL imo, I don't know if they will travel to Pakistan though.

Colin Munro
Sikandar Raza
Dawid Malan
Liam Dawson
Kieron Pollard
Chris Jordan
ABDV (But doesn't play international cricket)
Carlos Braithwaite
Corey Anderson
Brendon Taylor
Sunil Narine
Fawad Ahmed.

There are a couple of players who have performed in other T20 leagues but I don't consider them superstars. Joe Denly has pulled out of the PSL due to international commitments. Steve Smith has also pulled out due to injury.

Also don't know how many of these names above will travel to Pakistan. But PSL is lacking in star quality other than ABD. The teams aren't exactly full of young talent as well.

Don't know how much interest I will have in the PSL I have for this season due to same old names.

During PSL 2019:

Australia is playing India
Bangladesh is playing New Zealand
England is playing Windies
Sri Lanka is playing South Africa
Ireland is playing Afghanistan

Not sure which stars are available.

Fair point. PSL needs to change schedule. The last 3 years have shown it isn't a good time to have the PSL at this point in the calender.

Steve Smith was scheduled to play in the PSL but got injured.

If finch gets dropped from Aus side, he could come in as a replacement for smith.

The player needs to want to play in the PSL. It isn't as simple as that.

I have seen a lot of Finchs press conferences and he has kept on banging on about having a break. I don't think he will be dropped as he is captain but even if he is , I don't think he will join the PSL. I believe he isn't playing IPL this year to stay fresh for the WC and to prepare in case of an ashes call up. Also Sheffield Shield is played during the PSL so even if dropped he could play in that to stake his claim for a test place if he wanted to play some cricket.

We should look at the situation instead of putting 2 and 2 together thinking every player dreams of playing in the PSL.

No Warner? No watson? It was better last year.

The Star foreign player ranks are thin this year. It was better last year.

Warner opted out of the draft. Watson will play in the PSL for Quetta Gladiators.

They are thin due to other teams playing series. Steve Smith being out is a big blow. I really wanted my team to sign him but I was just glad he was going to be in the PSL.

Really good point.

3rd rate overseas players will be labelled stars.

And yet, Imran Khan got flack for essentially saying the same thing a few years ago. I'm not saying you're wrong but just that some of us were attacked for saying essentially this earlier.

The player will want to play when there’s mullah on the table, offer’em a mill and he’ll be on the next flight to DXB.

And, I highly doubt that Finch will try and improve on his first class game, and with Bancroft available for selection, Finch’s test career is over.

However, looking at the schedule, he’ll be in India during the PSL.

Wait until its time to arrive in Karachi and then most of them will develop fever or will be declared unfit to travel. Its all about money. Show them the green and they will crawl to PK.

He is well paid by Australia as well. If he wanted to play in the PSL, he would make himself available. But the fact he pulled out of the IPL when he is a certain pick tells me he isn’t money motivated. I think he desperately wants to play the ashes.

Finch wants to bat in the middle order in tests like he does in first class cricket. I don’t think he is a test player but if Australia were to select him now I think it would be in the middle order. He struggled against India whilst opening. Don’t see them making that mistake in English conditions.

Most will probably pull out before the tournament starts.

Think criticism for Imran was as at that point the league was new so we wanted to hear encouragement. Now we are in season 4.

Sarfaraz Ahmed has confirmed that Shane Watson will not go to Pakistan.

Lol that is QG fault, they made the decision to sign a player who is not willing to go. Some of these players irrespective of how many assurances you give them will just not want to go. Question for the PCB and the Franchises start acting tough and whether they believe that the league has now gotten to the point where all foreign players need the PSL more than the PSL needs them? If only we could afford higher salaries

players that aren't willing to go shouldn't be signed up.
