What's new

Multan Sultans (176/5) defeat Karachi Kings (164/7) by 12 runs

Utterly garbage knock so far from the golden boy

Disappointing to see that babar has drifted away from what made him so successful in UAE. On slow wickets he used to pick the gaps focussing on timing the ball. But now he's all over the place trying to muscle the ball every time

These interviews are so awkwardly structured. Who organizes this stuff

They were including many other much better in Pak. They had to get the things setup and broadcast going pretty quickly here in UAE, it should get better as the tournament progresses.

Walton still to come. Remember his innings against Zalmis during the first leg.

Too much for Babar to do now. He is least ideal batsman to have on the crease at this stage.

So UAE this year hosts PSL, IPL and T20 World Cup. Some achievement.

This is a pretty ordinary innings from Babar so far.

Good for the average, but nothing else.

PSL 6 | Multan Sultans vs Karachi Kings | Match 16 | Abu Dhabi| 10th June 2021 | Match Discussion

Multan`s blistering start has proved to be the obvious difference here between the two teams. Maqsood`s cameo took me by surprise, and I suppose it must've been the case for many of you as well.

Rossuow played a blinder on this track. MOM for sure.

Edit: Maqsood is a viable candidate too

Babar is just rusty, like everyone else. As the tournament progresses, he will get more fluent and his SR will go up. Don't write him off based on today's innings.

Even after Maqsood got out, Rossow carried the momentum and played even a better knock. A short collapse lead to a lesser target otherwise MS looked set to cross 190s with ease at one stage.

This guy batting at number 5 is a nothing player. Cant believe KK was picking this guy over Rizwan.

It's going to take superhuman strength to be able to bat through the innings and score at 170-180. The temperature is too high to do that kind of stuff. 20-30 ball cameos seem to be the key for big scores here.

How come this keeper guy is batting at number 5 when Imad is still available?

Isn't Imad the captain? He has the power to put himself in and take on the responsibility as a late-order hitter. Surely he's better in this situation than Walton.

Chadwick proving me wrong, playing a brilliant innings. Babar joining the party now.

32 from 11

It's all about wickets in hand! Babar planned this and had it under control the whole time! :)

When they needed this keeper guy to score runs, he was taking singles and we dropped a sitter when he tried to hit, lol. Should have been out long ago.

Maybe try to hit 6s a bit early when the target isn't out of reach, Babar?!

Some of the guys wanted Imad to come ahead as if he's some Pollard or Russel. Chadwick has done much better than Maddy Shaddy.

PSL 6 | Multan Sultans vs Karachi Kings | Match 16 | Abu Dhabi| 10th June 2021 | Match Discussion

Well, in the end, it was Amir`s last over of Multan`s innings, which went for runs, which proved to be the deciding factor of the match.

Not sure what was going on from over number 12 to 15? Why were they taking singles when the asking rate was close to 13 runs?

Three wickets from Imran Khan Snr and 44 each from Khushdil Shah and player of the match Rilee Rossouw helped Multan Sultans to a 12-run win over Karachi Kings in the 16th fixture of the HBL PSL 6 at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Thursday evening.

Sultans also became the second side after Quetta Gladiators to defend a total in the ongoing season as they restricted Kings to 164 in their pursuit of 177.

Kings had a poor start to their run-chase as they lost Sharjeel Khan (four off six) in the fourth over with just 14 runs on the board. They managed only 31 in the batting powerplay and hit only a six and a four in the first six overs.

Martin Guptill failed to make his HBL PSL debut a memorable one as he managed 11 off 16 balls. Najibullah Zadran (11 off six, one six) followed Guptill when he fell to Imran Tahir in the 12th over leaving Kings reeling at 77 for three with 100 runs still required from eight overs.

Chadwick Walton joined Babar and the pair stitched a 77-run partnership off 45 balls for the fourth wicket to give Kings a chance to cross the line, but they failed to control the surging required run-rate.

During the course of the Kings innings, Babar struck his 18th half century in HBL PSL and returned unbeaten on 85. His 63-ball innings was studded with five fours and four sixes. The right-handed Walton scored 35 off 23, and hit four fours and a six.

Right-arm fast Imran Khan Snr took three wickets for 28, while Imran Tahir took two for 27.

Earlier, after being put into bat by Kings’ captain Imad Wasim, the Sultans got off to a flying start despite losing opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz (three off four) to Imad in the first over of the match.

Sohaib Maqsood joined Mohammad Rizwan and stitched a solid 36-run stand for the second wicket off just 18 balls.

Right-handed Sohaib contributed 31 off 14, which included five fours and a six. He collected 21 runs from Imad’s second over – third of the innings – smashing the left-arm spinner for three fours and a six. He was bowled in the next over as he chopped on left-arm pacer Waqas Maqsood on the final ball of the fourth over with the total on 40.

After the departure of Sohaib, Rizwan was joined by Rossouw who kept the scoreboard moving and never let the run-rate go down under 10. The left-hander struck seven boundaries in his 24-ball 44.

The induction of Thisara Perera in the 11th over of the match put breaks on Sultans’ free flow of runs as he conceded only two runs in his first over and got the prized wicket of Rossouw. Rizwan (29 off 23, two fours, one six) got run out in the same over.

The departure of both set batsmen dried up the runs for Sultans as it took 34 balls for them to strike a boundary after Rossouw’s dismissal.

That the Sultans managed to score 176 for five was largely because of late onslaught from young left-handed batsman Khushdil who returned undefeated on 44 off 32, hitting three fours and two sixes. He contributed an unbeaten 48 off 32 for the sixth wicket with Sohail Tanvir (14 off 14, one four). The pair collected 19 runs of the final over of the innings bowled by Mohammad Amir

For Kings, Perera was the most successful bowler with two for 12, while Imad and Waqas took a wicket each.

Scores in brief:

Multan Sultans beat Karachi Kings by 12 runs

Multan Sultans 176-5, 20 overs (Khushdil Shah 44 not out, Rilee Rossouw 44, Sohaib Maqsood 31, Mohammad Rizwan 29)

Karachi Kings 164-7, 20 overs (Babar Azam 85 not out, Chadwick Walton 35; Imran Khan Snr 3-28, Imran Tahir 2-27)
