In this edition of the Indian Premier League, Hardik Pandya has played a key role with the bat so far, amassing 278 runs.

But the India international, who is featuring in his first high-profile tournament since the T20I series against South Africa in September last year, hasn’t bowled a single over, leading to questions on his fitness.

And ahead of the final against Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma indicated that Hardik wouldn't bowl in the summit clash either.

"We have had his assessment every three-four games. We have spoken to him about what he wants to do and he is not comfortable at the moment to bowl. We have left the decision to him," Rohit said on Monday.

"He has got some niggle going (issues). It would have been great to have him bowl but through out the season, we have given him that cushion of being in that comfort zone and making sure that he takes care of his body and he has done that really well," Rohit said.

In the previous editions of the tournament, Hardik played a key role in the bowling department. And at the beginning of the tournament, Mumbai Indians' cricket director Zaheer Khan had indicated that Hardik could resume bowling soon.

However, things haven't looked quite bright. "We don't want to put that pressure on individual where we are expecting something from him and he's not being able to do it and the team morale goes down. We don't want that situation. Hardik to us is very important as a player. His batting has been really key for us, leading to the final. As long as he bats, I am happy," the captain said.

A genuine big-hitter, Hardik has proved his mettle with the willow, this time too, coming up with some fluent knocks - which played a key role in Mumbai Indians' entry into the final.

Mumbai Indians pacer Trent Boult was seen bowling in the nets in a video shared by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2020 final against Delhi Capitals in Dubai on Tuesday. "Trent looks pretty good. He is going to have a session with us today and then we will see how he goes. He pulled up pretty well in the last few days, so fingers crossed. Hopefully, he plays," Rohit said on the eve of the final.

"We wanted someone who could bowl with the new ball and get those wickets in the Powerplay. It's a no brainer that Trent is the best with the new ball when it comes to swinging the ball back to the batsman. We always wanted him in the squad and luckily for us, we got him traded from Delhi," Rohit said.

"He has not disappointed and has come and done the job with the new ball. He has bowled well in the middle overs and also at the backend a few times. He is an asset for the squad and let's hope he can do for more time for us," the captain said

Boult could bowl just two overs in Qualifier 1 against Delhi before leaving the field because of a groin injury. However, Boult had already done the damage in a stellar double-wicket maiden, during which he had Prithvi Shaw edging behind and Ajinkya Rahane trapped in front.

Boult has been ruthless with the ball this season, picking up 22 wickets from 14 matches including a four-wicket haul. The New Zealand speedster has taken 14 powerplay wickets and struck an astonishing seven times in the first over of the innings this IPL. His discipline and ability to swing the new ball has been pivotal to Mumbai's prolific run so far.

Predicted this as the final from the start of the tournament. Hope we get a good game. Would rather DC win so we get a new winner. Don't want the same team dominating the IPL.

MI look like a very strong all round team and it's going to have to be something special from DC to beat them.

Mumbai Indians lock horns with Delhi Capitals in the final of the Indian Premier League 2020 in Dubai and a few players could be game-changers on the night it matters the most. While both teams are loaded with stars, it promises to be a cracker between the two most consistent franchises this season.

But it is a T20 match, one player and one performance could make the all-important difference between the two sides. And the beauty of this final is that both sides have players who can stand up and get counted one last time to win the silverware.

Here are the five players who could make all the difference in the night in the desert.

Rohit Sharma: Eyes would be on him as he has been picked on the Australia tour in the red-ball format despite murmurs of him carrying a hamstring injury. But, Rohit is an asset for any side and hence arrangements are being made to get him fit on time for the Tests. In 11 IPL games this season, Rohit has amassed 264 runs and has played a couple of knocks that gave fans a glimpse of why he is special. He is someone who could take the match away from the opposition if he gets in.

Hardik Pandya: Even if the team is in trouble, Mumbai Indians have Kieron Pollard. In case you get past Pollard, Hardik is there and it is difficult to get past both. This season Hardik has played cameos and got counted towards the back end of the innings. In 13 matches, he has scored 278 runs. With Hardik coming in late in the order, he does not get to face many balls and hence the strike-rate is a good indicator. He ticks that box as well with an emphatic strike-rate of 182.89.

Jasprit Bumrah: The yorker specialist has been hitting the timber regularly and is a game-changer for sure. He can pick wickets in clusters and give you economical overs in the back end. He too like Rohit, is an asset. The pacer has 27 wickets in 14 games this season. He has an economy rate of under seven – which is gold standard in T20 cricket. Bumrah has been sharp this season and he would hope he can do it for the defending champions.

Marcus Stoinis: The Capitals allrounder has been doing the job with the bat and the ball and is the perfect team player. He also opened this season in the Qualifier and did a decent job at the top as well. He is someone who can be a key game-changer and has done it in the past. Given the form he is in, you cannot rule out the possibility of him being the hero in Dubai tomorrow.

Kagiso Rabada: 29 wickets in 16 matches, he got back to the numero uno position – something that has been his for the most part of the season -with a four-wicket spell against Hyderabad in Qualifier 2. The current Purple Cap holder is a game-changer himself. He can rip opponents apart with his sheer pace. It would be interesting to see him bowl to the MI skipper – who is still carrying an injury.

Note: There are many more players like Suryakumar Yadav, Quinton De Kock, Shikhar Dhawan, and Ravichandran Ashwin are all big players and anyone could actually make it their night to remember.

IPL final guys, the worlds greatest league in the history of this great sport. Are you going to need me to create some atmosphere here for you guys!!

Its a track where you can defend 150. But will DC get there?

Can someone please explain why Shreyas loves to do his walk to the off and then reverse back to the stump playing a big shot? its failed everytime I have seen him try it!

He only knows to hit his shots that way against pace.

cricket now is all about winning ipl and making big bucks. who cares about t20 WC and odi WCs.

tests and ipl is what matters.

Poor technique against fast bowling from Shreyas.

loooooooooooool rana nice spot lol. iyer bats funny rofl vs pace.

He was doing it in the last game as well. He seems very unbalanced in many aspects, head position as well.

I think his biggest strength is the clean hit he gives to a spinner that is in his range. Not a very traditional Indian batsman IMO

Its good to learn this now, we suffered a decade of Misbah ul Haq doing this.

Iyer is good in smashing spinners but can't play pace to save his life. He should do a fine job at no.4 in ODIs in long run but highly doubt on Indian T20 team.

yea you are right. he did play well vs pace against australia in odis though. not sure why he is playing like the way he is atm vs pace.

iyer averages 40 vs pace
28 vs spin in t20.

maybe its medium pace lol?

Big game, big occasion, motu Pant showing how it's done. :clap

Good partnership this. Get to 150 boys. Realistic but perfect score

Great recovery. See off Bumrah's overs and you will get the easy bowlers to cash in on

Momentum with Delhi at the moment, few more overs with these two and they are looking at 165+ easily, which will probably be a match winning score, Mumbai due a batting collapse

This knock will be remembered if DC goes on to win the game. That's the speciality of finals.

Rishabh Pant's only fifty of this IPL.

Great knock from Pant. I can understand why he was dropped from the ODI squad but he should have been in the T20 squad.

hardik is a weak guy. making excuses about not being able to bowl. he seems fine. his back seems to be in perfect condition. loser.

I will take him if he can be our Misbah-ul-Haq. We have good batting lineup and it will work for us.

Never understood why Indians like Misbah. he played a vital role in both of your major world cup wins in the last 15 years :)))

Iyer playing a captains knock. Need Hetmyer to bat till the end.

I hope DC win. They were my pick from the start.

Yeah that's why :))

But think of a Misbah in a team of Rohit, Kohli and Rahul and Pandya, will take that.

MI very likely to lift the trophy here , considering the power packed batting they have

but without misbah pakistan would have no one to stabilize their innings

And what the stability achieved in the long run, heart breaks after heart breaks, yeah a more dignified loss, oh if there ever is such a thing, in the grand scheme of things the results speak for itself and Misbah has nothing to show for that, bar that lucky and fluke two min no 1 test ranking, he had his chances but always remain man of so near yet so far, maybe u call him unlucky but he his extra conscious and safety first approach deserved it, with a little more Ruthlessness, he could have completely different career, imagine that ball went for 6 in 2007 and that mohali innings if he started hitting in time and took Pak to Final, and after that final win, he would be bigger hero than Even Imran Khan. The guy would have gave Pak two WCs.

Precisely. I wrote a lengthy post about this some days ago, I think on the alternate reality thread where Pakistan won the 2007 T20 WC and Misbah had a completely different, aggressive personality as a result.

157 isn't enough for sure, but it's the Final - you never know. MI starts as favorite but DC has the 4 of the bowlers of IPL, should make a match of it. 170 should have made it really tight - often in T20 just 10-12 extra runs make it a totally different ball game.

The extent of dew would also be a big factor, but even if DC bowl to its potential MIs have to really mess it up to not get this below par score.

It was Delhi's mistake to bat first in a 6PM start game, means the first half will be played under dry condition during twilight zone. They made the common blunder in cricket - take calls from memory. The first qualifier must have influenced them here, but every game start from scratch and that game Delhi lost because they played poor - bowled defensively and let MI off the hook, not because they batted second. Wasim Akram made the same mistake on June 20th, 1999.

Horrible first over by Rabada. Guess that's that for DC. Thanks for coming.

MI are clearly the strongest team in the IPL. They could dominate the IPL for the next couple of years. Really hope the other franchises step up there recruitment so we get a fresh winner in 2021.

This SKY really is Shah Rukh Khan from Main Hoon na.

What a selfless moment

Rohit Sharma IPL play off record wasn't that great but now he is scoring in the final!
