The Myanmar Air Force (Tatmadaw Lay - TL) has received the first of up to 16 Pakistan Aeronautical Complex/Chengdu Aircraft Industry Corporation (PAC/CAC) JF-17 Thunder combat aircraft it ordered in 2015, it was disclosed on 15 December.

At least four aircraft were shown on static display in a video posted online of an official airshow celebrating the TL's 71st anniversary. With the sale announced in 2015, images of the aircraft being flight tested at CAC's airfield in Chengdu were posted in June 2017. As recently as April, Jane's was told that PAC is building the aircraft for Myanmar, with testing being conducted by CAC.

Ooh, an export customer - this fighter program blows the HAL and Tejas out of the sky.

And the Rohingyas better watch out - there's a new predator in the air!

Why does Myanmar need fighter aircrafts?

So you accuse them of genocide then sell them fighter jets?

Wonder what IK thinks now?

Only profits matter and rightly so . Lets not become the Protector of Global Ummah or else first protest against Chinese atrocities of ughyurs before puny Myanmar.

We have to do what is best for us. When was this so called Ummat ever one to begin with that Pak should worry about uniting it? Rohingya lives are no more or less important then Palestinian, Yemeni, Iraqi, Syria, Afghan or Kashmiri ones.

Those jets were ordered in 2015, then shown off in December of that year, possibly in a cynical attempt to head off criticism of the state sanctioned ethnic cleansing of the Rohingya people. In any case, Imran Khan was not in power then so no idea why you are trying to pin that on him.

He is in power now, can stop the sale if he wants.

Cant go back on commitments in business. Only trump does that. However, he should ensure no further sale is done to any such regimes.

Maybe he should give a comment on it, and I'm sure if IK can try and negotiate again with China, this must be very easy for him considering his feelings for Rohingyas.

Perhaps he will give a comment, first he'll have to log onto PP and be made aware of the three year old story, handily popped up by one of our Indian members. Maybe one of his aides keeps an eye on this place and can have a word in his ear.

The deal was done with China not Pakistan. We produce 58-60% of the aircraft and have met our obligation. I disagreed with Myanmar doing a direct deal with Pakistan like Nigeria did and Myanmar went to China who can also make JF17 deals.

Pretty much.

Pakistan entering the fighter jet export market shows the sloths on the Indian side for what they are. This might just be the kick up the backside our dullards need to get their act together, but I strongly doubt it.

He doesn't know that there is sale.of jets to Myanmar? Must be the most clueless PM in history of Pakistan if he isn't aware of the geographic location of Rohingyas or the fact that his country is making sales of Fighters and not aloo pyaaz ,always seems to be a big deal in UK,France ,USA or RUSSIA where their leaders consider it a big achievement to have made a deal in defense.

Thanks for your concern, but Pakistan exports prowess is definitely not a model for India to follow. Total Indian exports are over $400 billion ($300 billion merchandise and $100 billion software) compared to Pakistan's $25 billion.

Exactly.

When was the last time any of the Muslim nations recognized our efforts in the "War on Terror" or took our side in diplomatic matters?

Don't go off on a train - I am referring to fighter jet / military exports. The less said about HAL, the better.

Pak is better at defense tech for now with better Drones and jets now.. India concentrated more on Space game but with private sector entry think we will improve in next 10 years.

Keep the big picture in mind. The JF-17 costs about $16 million per unit, compared to the $65 million per unit for the F-16 (whose production may move to India). An order of 6 aircraft is about $0.1 billion. The talent of every country goes where there is most most opportunity. Obviously talented Indians have ample opportunities other than HAL.

Complaining about HAL is a failure to see the wood for the trees.
