A win today for WI will get them up to 85 points & Pakistan down to 88. A Pak win will see them climb to 90 points with WI down to 82 points

Basically if Pakistan win they should qualify regardless of their next results.

WI have 3 or 4 ODI's vs Afghanistan, a few in England, 1 against Ireland and I dunno what else.

Realistically with Rashid Khan Afghanistan will win at least 1 ODI in the Caribbean, which will seriously dent WI's ranking points, and I can't see them troubling England too much.

You are underestimating this Windies side. They are not as bad as they seem.

With better leadership and some of their main players returning I won't be surprised if the Windies regularly start beating SL, BD, Pak let alone Afg and Ire.

I second this !! People underestimate the Windies way too much tbh...They're a decent lot and under better leadership and management they can seriously become a very effective side.

I'll throw in a random stat here, out of the 11 players that play for them currently only 2 have a SR below 70 and the rest are all hovering in the high 80s and 90s. The day these blokes learn how to construct an innings.... Trust me they'd maul sides for fun !!

Been hearing that for ages. End of the day they're number 9 for a reason. Sure they have the ability to beat those teams certainly, but we'll see if they'll show it consistently.

Most of their main players are either washed up/getting up there in age, or both. Besides these days with a T20 league playing most of the year, they would rather play in the Georgie Pie Super Smash lol. Like it or not, West Indies has to sink or swim with the current crop.

That's because they have the only cricket board in the world that is worse than the PCB. They keep dropping good players after every couple of series, and not selecting others for a variety of reasons.

I won't be surprised if half the side playing today won't feature the next time the Windies step out onto the field.

If you have a board that is even more incompetent than the PCB then good luck in trying to develop any half decent side bro. On top of this they're officials are corrupt and are in constant friction with the players themselves. In such an unstable environment there is no chance to develop a brand and let the players showcase their talents.

For West Indies, it's not the ability that's lacking; it's their mismanagement and chopping and changing that's resulting in all this chaos.

they just need samuels and lendl simmons to strengthen their middle order and charles or fletcher to replace walton

Nurse is hugely impressive both as a bowler and batsman. Holder is a good first-change bowler and can smash a few in the lower order. Gabriel is a better bowler than our bowlers (apart from Amir and Hasan). Shai Hope is a classy batsman, needs good mentorship. We all saw how destructive Jason Muhammad can be.

That is why I said this Windies side isn't as bad as it seems. I bet they can easily beat Lanka or BD (away)

Pakistan will play Bangladesh in Bangladesh, Pakistan have to at its best if it wants a direct qualification for WC. But I personally don't really get it, apart from some moral, pscychlogical , pride and egoistic aspects what Pakistan will miss if it not qualify for WC. It will be better if before wC we play qualify round, smash minnows and players come to farm

The younger generation with Lewis, Hope, Mohammed, Blackwood are better than Pollard, Gayle, Dwayne Bravo etc
Pace battery is good and spinners are fine too.

They need Lindl Simmons to open and someone like Russel as the all rounder.

Pakistan is capable of dropping points as well.

Pretty exciting stuff, this.

Spices up drab ODI series more.

Pretty sure we will be playing bangladesh after the cut off date,

TBH this ranking system will bring pakistan down even further as we don't ever win an ODI series against better teams.

Alzarri Joseph has a lot of potential. Narine is a top class bowler. Pollard is basica,ly just a slogger.

Hope and Mohammed are the big stars out of this bunch. Nurse has also been impressive. A solid nucleus to build around should the WICB tread wisely.

Nicholas Pooran is also a bright spot
