Is Mashrafe Mortaza injured?
He was initially declared fit to go to New Zealand but was then ruled out due to fever. I think he should be ready to captain against England at home.

murtaza should handover captaincy to shakib ul hassan because mortaza is like akhtar in terms of injuries and bangladesh should build team under shakib for big series n world cups t-20 n 2011 he will be injury free captain to have n he is best batsman at no:- 4 n front line spinner for bangla tigers.

I would add Mahmudullah to that list as well..he seems to be a decent bat and if anything i think he should bat higher up the order..on second thoughts its not like he has to wait a long time before coming in the middle :moyo

IMO, It's abit idiotic starting a match thread for a game that will be starting 10+ hours later. Sohaib-789 is known for starting threads well in advance and it is really irratating.

Guess Bangla heard what Adam parrore says about them Pak and West indies lol

Bangla boys getting battered..mind you they started very well, had NZ 158 for 5 but that was a long time ago friends. NZ 432 for 5 now

NZ scored 174 runs in this session with out the loss of any wickets..wow

Always happens to Bangladesh..
they start of positive, give it away.
I really think Shahadat Hussein was a waste bowler and is a waste bowler.
They need to get some new players in..

The guy who scored only 88 runs in 3 test matches against Pakistan is batting on 166 not out, Martin Guptil.....It just goes to show how third class bangladeshi test side is.

These two are just playing for records and for there stats

Watch McCullum is going to cramp out while keeping

McCullum gone for 185

Rubel Hossain to McCullum, OUT, beautiful delivery with a hint of shape away catches the edge of the off stump. Great piece of bowling ends a terrific innings

BB McCullum b Rubel Hossain 185 (272b 17x4 3x6) SR: 68.01

No need for caps.

519 is more than enough

Wooww mann relax relax!!

When and where did I say Yousuf is, "MOST AGGRESSIVE CAPTAIN EVER"?!

Ingram said they will be looking for "400-450" so that has been crossed..

Also whats up with your caps lock? I can read it in smaller font as well....

Guptill gone for 189

129.6
Rubel Hossain to Guptill, OUT, short ball catches the shoulder of the bat as Guptill tries to pull it the leg side. The end of a marathon innings

MJ Guptill c †Mushfiqur Rahim b Rubel Hossain 189 (310b 18x4 1x6) SR: 60.96

525/7 (130.1 ov)

Stiill didn't declare...oops Vettori is aggresive captain..I forgot about it:)

This is more than handy total

Bangladesh will be lucky if they are able to avoid an innings defeat here.

Ok ok ,
What Bangladesh need to do -
Bangladesh need at least 700 to have a chance in the game!

Rubel has been the pick of the bowlers, but has been very expensive.

It was poor captaincy from Shakib to allow NZ easy singles with a relatively spread field especially when he had NZ 150 odd for 5. Very :moyo-esque

I think that's possible if you allow them about 8 innings and not just 2.

I have never seen Bangladesh not collapse in a test match.
Always get a good start, collapse.

Tamim Iqbal is a star.

Hopefully they won't collapse this innings and score at least 400.

Cricket: Guptill, McCullum fall just shy of new world record

So close,

Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill came within 13 runs of setting a new world record sixth-wicket stand, on the second day of the one-off cricket test against Bangladesh in Hamilton today.

The partnership, which ended on 339 with McCullum's dismissal for 185, threatened to overtake the world record of 351 set by Mahela and Prasanna Jayawardene against India last November.

The pair came together with the Black Caps teetering at 158 for five yesterday afternoon, sharing in an unbeaten 100 run partnership before stumps last night.

This morning the pair moved quickly into stride with Guptill reaching his maiden hundred (in his ninth test) in the opening hour's play, followed soon after by McCullum, who raised his fourth test century.

The pair added 173 runs in the opening session with McCullum passing his previous test best of 143 (also against Bangladesh) as both players reached the 150 mark before lunch.

The pair's effort easily eclipsed the previous New Zealand sixth wicket record of 274, dating back to Jeff Crowe and Richard Hadlee in Sri Lanka in 1987.

The partnership is the third highest in New Zealand test history, behind Martin Crowe and Andrew Jones' then world record 467 against Sri Lanka in Wellington in 1991, and Glenn Turner and Terry Jarvis' 387 against the West Indies in Georgetown in 1972.

The highest partnership for any wicket is 624 by Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene for Sri Lanka against South Africa in Colombo, Sri Lanka in 2006.

Bangla pretty much batting to try and save the match here. Cant see it happening Though!

On their last tour to NZ the Bangla openers put on 150 in one innings, they were bowled out for just over 250.

Many promising openings but usually slammed shut.

Usually the Bangla batting falls over at start of inns and then lower order bail them out a little.

2/3 batsmen will need to score big for them in this match!

I couldn't agree with you more. Such a waste man is "Sohaib" :))). He usually counts down to the match as well saying stuff like 5 hours to go, 2.5 hours to go etc.

Bangladesh batsmans looks in good in touch as they aim for some fight tomorrow on Day 3.

It has been batsmen all the way today, with that massive 339 run stand between Guptill and McCullum, followed by an aggressive opening stand between Kayes and Tamim.

according ot BD-fan rubel bowled 29 overs and his pace didn't drop, which is surprising. every ball at 140 or more. he's a genetic freak of nature.

How flat is this track? We never got this flat track

track was seamer friendly first session as NZ slumped to 158-5...it then flattenned out to waht u see now. it will be a damn shame if we can't reach the follow on mark after being 87-1 with tamim iqbal still around.

I agree with the bad captaincy from Shakib in one occation only. The commentators also pointed that out. I didn't see much negative field settings though. The bowlers didn't bowl according to the settings and so got punished. There were fielders in catching positions.

#1. The new ball was due. Shakib chose not to take and brought in Rubel to bowl with the old ball. Now the commentators were saying why give the batsmen have a look at the new bowler with the old ball. I can see the point but I guess Shakib wanted to see one last try if the ball reverses or not.

#2. Now this was bad. Even I had my hair scratching on this one. New ball taken. With only one slip. Uuuu!! This is a cardinal sin. You can't break up the partnership this is your chance. Why not have at least two slip? Guess what? 4th ball, McCullum had no idea edged one chest high on the second slip and no one to catch. He was at 86 then.
+++

As for Rubel, all I can say is we are blessed. He doesn't play the seam (don't/can't land the ball on the seam because of his slinging action). Once he gets that right watch out world. he will bounce out people at will.

Bd has still long ways to go. One of the things they need to master is how to take care of the ball. Dry it and shine it. A key in test cricket to be successful.

Al hamdulillah only one drop catch for the entire innings.

Hats off to Guptill and McCullum. What an innings they played.

Btw...when is Mortaza coming back? It seems like he's been out of the game for a long time

he is fit but missed out due to fever and i think he should be replaced by shakib as captain for better future of Bangladesh cricket as u know mortaza is mostly on sideline as he is pacer .

he is not coming back soon. He left for Australia again for a checkup with his doctor. 4 operations in two knees, multiple issues on his ankle and shoulder. He plans to play against England in ODIs or least will try to end of this month. I am not that hopeful. I want him to take his time and play in WC2011 and represent BD in the best way he can. He himself don't want to come and give 80%-90%. He said it is either 110% or nothing. Legally only 26 (even if you add a year or two still young), we will see what is stored for him.

remove him from captaincy i strongly believe shakib can make good side for all 3 formats and he is injury free also.
