India lead series 1-0. 5 days of cricket with out defeat and india win the series. Will they do it?

Pitch by all accounts looks like another batsmens paradise!

For me NZ have the edge, but will there be a Dhoni? That's the big question.

If true, then Batting paradise + Indian batting = Indian series win

From Cricinfo

Toss: New Zealand have put India in to bat.
Dhoni is back. For New Zealand, Flynn and Southee get into the playing eleven. That's interesting, the pitch must be offering some help to the seamers.
I haven't caught a pitch report yet; will keep you updated.

New Zealand team
TG McIntosh, MJ Guptill, DR Flynn, LRPL Taylor, JD Ryder, JEC Franklin, BB McCullum (wkt), DL Vettori (C), IE O'Brien, CS Martin, TG Southee

India team
G Gambhir, V Sehwag, R Dravid, SR Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni (C + wkt), Harbhajan Singh, Z Khan, I Sharma, MM Patel

Pitch report Sky sports' Simon Doul: "It looks a good batting surface. There are 20-25 mm of grass left on the surface but it's all dry. There would be a touch of seam movement around. It will be a very important first hour for the bowlers. It will be a good even paced track and will last five days. They will have to make full use of the first hour and half, else there will lots of hard work for the bowlers."

Vettori's plan just might come back to haunt him. Seems to be a batting wicket.

Vettori: We are just trying to work the best strategy to win the game. Normally you turn up and if you look at this pitch [brown and bone dry] and think it's bat first but hopefully it will do some thing here. The new ball first up gives us a opportunity to do something, if India get off to a good first we got to keep coming back.

Dhoni: If we had won the toss, we would have batted first. It's a bold positive move from New Zealand. We are quite happy with the preparation. We as a team know when to prepare and when to have a off session (rest).

I was hoping for a green top... :( but the groundsman said it's tough for this time of the year.

Sehwag's away, 2 fours and a six in quick succession races to 16, India 26-0 in the 5th

Theres a bit of swing around but southee aint bowling in the right channels yet

Sehwags got off to a good strt but been a bit streaky so far

Gotta get him quick

4 more to Sehwag, keeps it simple if it's there to be hit, hit it, no fuss or drama

And now probably the best shot of the day so far by Sehwag, caressed through the off side, moves to 30

Shastri is back. Is he the only indian commentator on this tour?

Before the test series I wondered whether Sehwag might do something crazy in the test series on these small grounds. Early days yet but at this rate, 100 before lunch is on.

Ravi Shastri just recounted a conversation with Sehwag.

Ravi: What do you do when the ball is swinging?
Viru: I will go after the ball and hit
Ravi: Why?
Viru: Because then the ball stops swinging !!

LOL

Vittori clean shaven for this test match.

Yes...and he's already biting his nails. Don't know if bowling first was the right choice for NZ :13:

Why? Are you missing the dreaded combo of Arun Lal and L Siva

No No...I quite like the NZ commentators :D

Last test, Vettori introduced himself and spin VERY early and they got Sehwag out both innings, so I wouldn't be surprised to see spin early again...

O'Brien needed that wicket after dropping the lollypop in the last match....

big wicket , but a good start nevertheless !

they need to play out the first session , there is still something in for the bowlers !

the tide is turning....gambhir goneeee for 23 lbw Franklin

just what i feared , these are not bad conditions to bowl ....never judge a pitch by how shewag bats !

Absolutely true. The pitch has assisted the bowlers till now.

101/2 after first session , India slightly ahead imo ...the pitch should flatten out by the second session , thats when we can take toll ....hopefully 320+ by the end of day !

dont think i have ever see this kind of crowd for a test match in NZ..laras comment of one spectator and his dong comes to mind :)

Dravid and Tendu on their way to a record 17th 100 run partnership in test cricket :)
So far...
Haynes & Greenidge - 16
Hayden & Ponting - 16
Dravid & Tendu -16

I am really fed up with the batting surface nowadays. The reason i became fan of the Cricket because of fast bowlers. Nowadays, it's all about the all in favor of batsmen especially with the favorable batting condition. I won't be watching the last test. I really am missing the quality bowlers ;(

Anyways, great start from the Indian team. Rahul seems to be on roll.

Yes...me too. Disappointing to see a brown and relatively flat track again.

Not sure how you watch cricket, but please do not provide us all the details!

182/5 ...Vettori must be mighty pleased

india are playing loose, silly shots all over. they deserve where they are right now . poor batting.

The way Tendulkar was going hammer & tons, I really didn't expect to see India in such a position as now. It's been disaster for us since that Tendulkar dismissal. Depends on Dhoni a lot. Harbhajan too can chip in with some useful runs.

Go the Hobbits!!

And one more time, with feeling......The YUVI :))) :)))

How many chances can one man get without delivering?

He may as well score a double century in the 2nd innings, who knows !!

How does Yuvraj Singh keep making the Indian team? A country with such immense talent in the batting department. I am shocked that India can't find someone who knows how to defend and at least pick up singles.

Yuvraj is strictly a one day player and should remain one. There is no doubt in anyone's mind that he can't play one day cricket, but he definitely can't bat in test match cricket. He just doesn't have the patience, defensive skill or technique to last for long innings in test matches.

Of course he hits the odd scores in tests... but that's not good enough for a nation known fr it's batting. I am just saying... I am not sure how Indian fans feel about him.

another poorly timed, poorly placed, silly shot. rahul dravid the walk of shame this time.

and now dhoni very NEARLY drags that onto the stumps... very very close. oh man.

Are our cricketers on some drugs, such careless, reckless shots all over the place .I thought they learned from the second test .

we're throwing it away! Bhajji only makes runs against Aussies...let's hope he can chip in here.

If we get to 300 we should be OK. Our batting won't make the same mistake again in the 2nd innings. Tendulkar looked awesome but lost his concentration.

Harbhajan needs to work his magic with the bat. He has done it several times in the past.

No our players take care of the drugs in cricket :akhtar :asif :)))

you guys are just freezing a little bit (wasn't that the excuse??)...

The way he was hammering, it was expected for India to end the day with a 350+ score. Laxman, Yuvi, Gambhir, Dravid all failed to put on good scores.

Bhajji and Dhoni, please do something. We need a total above 300 runs.

Bublu I think if we get to 300 we should be OK. Anything about 350 then we're for sure good. Our batsmen won't repeat this mistake in the 2nd innings.

That's exactly what I'm expecting. 300 would be fine, but 350 will be ideal.

Hmm. India under the cosh at the moment

Geez Tendy is class. 62 on a tough wicket to bat on. I reckon the Hobbits will make 200 during their dig

I am surprised by the collapsed of the finest batting line. Dhoni always look certain to bring the team out of the trouble.

Your batsmen will get rolled again in the 2nd innings but the Hobbits will get rolled worse, as they have no batsmen. If Zaheer and the MIGHTY AND TALL ISHANT can get the ball to swing most of these Enzedders are crap against the moving ball.

The pitch is still flat. Nevertheless, Tendulkar somehow has managed to score half fifty.

350 a par score here imo , would have preferred 450+ to be on the safer side though ..we should have got there if not for some really poor batting from our batsmen !

& its time to close Yuvis chapter !

its flattened out now , but there ws lot of assistance for bowlers in the first half !

Dhoni wants to score quick while he has a partnership with Harbhajan, because once one of them lose the wickets, there isn't much batting left, so might as well make the most of it.

Dhoni makes a 50!! Dhoni alone has pulled out India from crisis situation in so many situations. You see a different Indian team under his captaincy...

I am pretty sure India team is gonna win and that's because of Dhoni captaincy.

Don't think so. We'll do much better in the 2nd innings.

And we can't discount NZ. Ryder and Taylor are in good touch, as are Vettori and McCullum.
