The match is well under way now. NZ batting and after 5 overs NZ are 37/1.

Looking forward to see Gayle batting.

Pollard to Styris, OUT, tries to manipulated the ball and it bounces off the top edge again this time straight up in to the air and Pollard takes a routine catch
SB Styris c & b Pollard 21 (0m 12b 2x4 1x6) SR: 175.00

Taylor gone.
I wish Gayle plays a good captain's knock to take Windies home

3 dot balls to start the 8th over followed by a single. Gayle could balance it out by hitting two boundaries off the remaining deliveries.. here goes.

Gets a single with the final ball thus keeping the strike. Smart move.

Pakistan need an opener who plays like Gayle :)) (and do not mention afridi plz)

The workers outside the ground are lucky they are wearing helmets coz its raining sixes at the moment

Hope so see something amazing here. 6 Requires off the last 2 deliveries.

Quite funny really, not a single match has been won in the whole series! I guess NZ and WI are equally matched.

West Indies and New Zealand tie for the 2nd time in T20I, amazing stuff.

a tie i don't believe it... this super over is going to be fun!!

they both will play one over...

Yeah that's the new rule now. However, no one (well atleast not on cricinfo anyway) has mentioned anything about the extra over?

The "super over" will consist of 3 batsmen and 1 bowler chosen by each team.

super over- interesting!

We will now have one super over for each team. 3 batsmen and one bowler are chosen for each team who are bowl one over each on the same pitch with the same ball. West Indies batted second so they will have the first super over.

In the event of a tie in the super over the team loosing the fewer number of wickets will win. If that is tied there will be a count back to the number of 6's which stands at 7 each and then a count back to the number of 4's which West Indies are leading 13 - 11.

Super lame

Why don't they just reduce the match to one over each from the start?

Well the light is fading and the floodlights are not working but we will continue with the super overs. Batting for the West Indies is Gayle, Marshall and Chanderpaul and bowling for New Zealand is Vettori.

Ball 1 - Vettori to Gayle - Hit high and over midwicket and it ends up rows back in the crowd.

Ball 2 - Vettori to Gayle - clubbed down to long-off and they turn quickly for two. Good through and Vettori gathers well and whips the bails off. It's close and goes to third umpire but he's out.
Chanderpaul comes in now. One more wicket and the West Indies are out.

Ball 3 - Vettori to Gayle - hit high straight over Vettori's head and another one that ends up in the crowd. 6 more.

Ball 4 - Vettori to Gayle - there he goes again! Arm ball from Vettori and it's lifted high over long-on and in to the ground once more. West Indies 19 for 1

444444444 ... lol vettori was really lucky Gayle didn't pick that one up...

Gayle force attacks kiwis.
let us hope McCullum and Taylor reply fire with fire!

McCullum, Ross Taylor and Ryder are the batsmen for New Zealand. Benn is bowling his slow spin for the West Indies.

McCullum can launch a few too.

Benn was literally unhittable against England in stanford 20-20.
but McCullum and Taylor, even Oram can hit the ball out of the park. interesting match up.

Ball 1 - Benn to Oram - he takes a big swipe and it's too wide from Benn . Get's underneath it to dispatch the ball for six over long-off
good start!

Ball 2 - Benn to Oram - gets a thin edge and runs down to fine leg and they scamper back for a second.

Ball 3 - Benn to Oram - wicket. He gets too much under the ball this time and doesn't quite connect. The ball sails high to the man underneath it at long-on for simple catch.

windies ahead...

purists may differ.
but new comers to cricket, may like the thrills.

It's all over, Benn gets 2 wickets! West Indies have won the first ever T20I to use super overs.

3 sixes needed of 3 balls.

Ball 4 - Benn to McCullum - no ball, there's one! waist high full toss from Benn pulled over square leg baseball style from McCullum. No ball so seven runs added and an extra ball. 15/1

Ball 5 - Benn to McCullum - wicket, flighted in from Benn and McCullum has to go for it. He missed and the ball travels on to middle stump bringing the second wicket. New Zealand all out for 15 and victory to the West Indies.

This is way better than bowl out, isn't it ?

I guess Pakistan can expect to win these tie-breakers as no more aiming at unprotected stumps with a speed of 100 mph :))).

You remind me of the Pakistan vs India group stage match in the ICC World Twenty20. This specialist batsman 'ROBIN UTHAPPA' could aim successfully at the stumps and hit them and one of the best yorker delivering bowlers in the world, Umar Gul, missed them by a mile. The irony of it :|

Err...that was the whole point of my post:batman:

Gayle literally won this match on his own.
a captain cant be expected to anything more.

He could deliver the Stone Cold Stunner to Vettori at the presentation ceremony. That would be above expectations.

Unlike Aussie cricketers....all the other cricketers are sober most of the time :batman: :D

Vettori is a good guy. not a controversial captain. :D
may be when Clarke becomes Australian captain and Gayle continues to be windies captain, it may happen :D (they have no love lost between the 2 of them, some '2nd class citizen' remark by Clarke to Gayle during last champions trophy and a subsequent punishment to Gayle!)

Great game. I proclaim 50 over cricket dead, 5 day cricket to follow soon( hopefully).

Twenty20 is a great form of cricket for a quick fix of cricket, but Test cricket will never die, too many purists still love the game as it was meant to be played.

maybe some of those purists will get a job or something and not be able to commit 5 days( or 3 when pakistan is finally playing) to sitting in front of their TVs.
