Nine killed in mosque attack in Burkina Faso

The Guardian Nigeria said:
Nine people were killed when suspected jihadists attacked a mosque in northeastern Burkina Faso, local sources said Thursday.

The attack happened at around nightfall on Wednesday in the village of Goulgountou in Burkina’s Sahel region, when assailants arrived on motorbikes and herded worshippers inside the mosque, a witness said.

“They separated out the women, children and elderly and then made sermons to try to convince worshippers of abandoning” their form of faith, the source said.

“A discussion even started up with the imam, and because he refused he was executed,” the source said.

“They tried to cut his throat, but he fought back, saying he wanted to die standing up, so the terrorists shot him in the head,” a local resident said, adding that he had attended the victims’ funeral on Thursday.

“Eight other worshippers, mainly community leaders, were shot dead in the same way.”

Goulgountou is located close to the gold mining town of Falagountou, which lies near the border with Niger.

The area has suffered several incursions by suspected jihadists since the start of the week, the sources said.

Thousands of people have died and more than two million people have fled their homes since jihadists began launching attacks on Burkina Faso from neighbouring Mali in 2015.

More than a third of the country’s territory lies outside of government control.

The insurgency fuelled two coups last year among army officers angered at the rising toll.

The latest junta is headed by Captain Ibrahim Traore, who at 34 is the world’s youngest leader.

Inna lilahi wa inna ilyhi rajioon.

It's so sad that these beastly terrorists thought that carrying out a haram and non Islamic act would be the best way to show the ahmedis their beliefs aren't Islamic.

What a depraved world we live in, where twisted people have hijacked a beautiful religion and reduced it too a blood thirsty cult.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun.

Cowardly attack. No innocent person should be attacked llike this.

RIP victims.

Got to appreciate the faith of the Imam who was executed. He did not abandon his faith even at gun point.

Indeed, man. Sad, sad to the extremes. Also, such an act sends a very wrong signal to non-Muslims about what Islam is as a faith and gives rise to the anti-Islam sentiment in the western countries, for example. Simple-minded and those non-Muslims who´ve no knowledge of Islam would take it to mean that this is what the religion teaches.

It was a very moving Friday Sermon by our Caliph on these nine brave men. The terrorists wanted them to renounce the Ahmadiyya faith and to revert to beliefs, such as Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) being alive and returning to the world and that the Founder of the Movement was a liar, but these men held on to their beliefs and sacrificed their lives. Two of them were twin brothers, and the youngest victim of the nine was 40.

Tragic and most certainly disgusting act of murder.

Muslims should discuss matters of disagreements, killing so many is a one way ticket to hellfire and deserved.

Is there a large community in this country?

Our Caliph often mentions Burkina Faso in the annual reports, but I´m not sure how large our community is over there. However, countries where the community is too small usually don´t get a mention in such reports. :)

This thread is not about preaching any one pov

It is about a crime.

Leave it at that.

Sad to see the lack of posts on this thread which is a reflection of how Ahmedis are potrayed in Pakistan. But this is nothing to be surprised about if we go by the words stated on a Pakistani passport about this community, which does nothing but to vilify them on a large scale.

It is confirmed that it´s the biggest loss suffered by the Community, outside of Pakistan, in a single attack.
