Umar Akmal speaking to media:

"No doubt that I am out of the team due to my fitness rather than performances. I will take a fitness test again and hopefully I can make a comeback soon."

"Cricket is all about challenges. If we take it as a challenge then we can be successful. If you perform, you will play for Pakistan."

"I am working on my fitness issues at the NCA and insha'Allah I will clear the fitness test next time and join the team once again."

"I have been playing under Misbah-ul-Haq's captaincy for a long time. As a human being, he's a very nice person. The way he took the Pakistan Test, ODI and T20I teams along is a very good sign for Pakistan. The way he developed the Test team, has, I think, made it a very good one."

This guy is an embarrassment. A man with no achievements but a big ego. I hope he's never selected again.

Your performances have been pathetic but somehow you made your fitness even worse. You are out of the team for both.

Why is it that for Pakistani cricketers the definition of being fit only extends as far as clearing the fitness test?

Shouldn't you be aiming to be the fittest version of yourself so that you improve your performances as well?

He should be appreciated for first time ever accepting there might be something short at his end. He is growing up.

Personally, I think it's neither fitness or performance - rather he has been given some task regarding his attitude. You don't make someone Captain in the Gala event of Domestic cricket for a major team, if there is fitness &/or performance issue. I do expect him to make the CT squad, as specialist batsman or 2nd WK in the squad.

lets wait and see..
btw just a couple of days back he was saying he gain weight even if he drink water something like that.
so he grows a brain overnight?

You don't need to grow brains overnight to say right words - what you need is not speak rubbish, at a mature age.

Good to see Akmal appreciate he does have fitness issues instead of blaming genes, saying his powerhitting would suffer without his 91kg girth, or outright denying it like in recent interviews.

Nobody doubts a fit and performing Umar Akmal can be an asset to Pakistan cricket. But he must take responsibility for his own career and put in the hard graft instead of coasting on "natural talent" like some of his predecessors who also failed to fulfil their promise.

It's more depseration then anything, despite how awful he has been he is a handful of players that clear the boundary in Pakistan. I'm guessing inzi would be unwilling to take a risk of Talat for the CT, and he probably doesnt know about Naved Malik

You will always find a way to be dropped whether it is performance, fitness, discipline e.t.c.

I think he is right. He was only dropped due to his fitness, else see no reason why he didnt make it for WI tour

Chicken karahi and Roghni naan ain't gon eat themselves.

Who is Naved Malik? I don't trust PP even for a word when it comes to new batsman. This guy Navid Malik at 32, can't be better than Fakhar & I have seen Fakhar; while KAkmal is bashing every bowler for last 2/3 years -and I also know him very well.

I still believe in old tried & tested method for hunting batsmen in PAK - take boys from U19 team & throw them in front to internalitional bowlers; who has it in him will learn in a year or two. Any given day I'll pick the likes of Zeeshan Malik, Saif Badar, Saud & Talat over Zakir or Navid or Akbar or Fakhar for even CT in U.K. in the month of June - at least one of them will figure out what it needs to do if he wants to play 12 years for Pakistan.

After Demise of Sharjeel, we desperately need him

Any one riding their horses need to come down. He is one of the very very few modern day circketers we have who can clear the in field

I would rather see a fat Umar Akmal Smashing it down the ground than the ultra fit and young Rizwan blocking everyhting to the ground in last 5 overs and swinging his frail arms around ( I still how pathetic he was in the recent AUS series)

U-Akmal needs to be back, hopefully he can clear it this time

We hardly score 230s which is almost 90% loss now a days..We hobble along with grafters like Rizwan and Shahzad to our own death every game

We need any firepower we can get . No one is perfect

He needs to return to 2012 levels. He can do this just need to work out hard and eat clean. He should set a target of 6 months to do this.

He has talent there is no denying but needs to get his head straight.

A mad slogger who may as well get a chance due to the lack of batting talent. He is a good hitter though, unlike zaman, just can't do much else

That sums up the post LOL

Cricket is one of the most extreme sports especially in the modern era where your low fitness can not only cost you (why he is out) but also can make the difference between a Win vs a Defeat!

Just like you suggested, let's fill the team with 11 unfit but full of fire power players than who is gonna do the running, fielding, catching and long spells of bowling?

Umar is special I would make an exception for unfit Umar

I wont do it all for many more members of the team

Besides Umar is one of our best runners and fielders and catchers in last few years

If Tanvir can be there, Umar should never have been dropped.

Total injustice. And he's right too

Badly need him, enough of the borefests we have.

Numbers don't lie. Numbers don't have bias.

These are pathetic numbers of a pathetic player who has played far too long on reputation. His career needed to permanently ended five years ago.

With just fifty in the last three years Umar Akmal will fill the big void left by fixer. :14:

Duh! His performances have hardly been brilliant that he should be in the team for that. Poor fitness and never scoring runs are both reasons why he is not in the team.

You make one exception, who is stop others from doing the same...in a short time we have a team of unfit players and then the whole team is taking breaks every 3-4 overs to recover from just standing around!

If your brilliant players are not willing to set a standard for others to follow, I highly doubt they are really that special to begin with. Can you name me one player from any team besides Pakistan who was badly out of shape (91 KG for a short frame like Umar) while in his mid 20's and had a long and successful career that really defines him as World Class?

91 KG is barely ok for most people that are close to 5' 10'' inches or taller and Umar is what 5' 3'' or something? How can he even do any of the strenuous work required in today's cricket and yet maintain a world class level of performance? His last 2-3 years numbers are there for all to see and those don't even look good by domestic cricket standards let alone Int'l standards

Good thing is he now acknowledges that his fitness is a problem. Next step should be to drink less water.

sad to see some posters saying that we need him badly when he has failed in every oppurtunity thrown at him since past 3 4 years

I don't understand this thought process. Any one can look at the past records and can say that his performance didn't guarantee a place in the team.

Could someone explain the logic behind the statement? Because I am sure even a kid can see through it.

Wish the idiot would just train hard and stop making excuses and voicing his supposed unfair treatment in the media.

Absolute prima donna who has no substance.

The sad and unfortunate bit is this he is just training to clear his fitness test and getting back into the team, instead of actually working on his fitness to be a great player. Stupid mentality.

Good thing is he now acknowledges that his fitness is a problem. Next step should be to drink less water.

Or he is denying that his performance is a problem. After all, Akmals quote from a unique dictionary of their own.

How dare you present facts, don't you know for all those innings Umar Akmal was forced to bat at 9 with one hand tied behind his back whilst having to do handstands at the crease by evil team management who didn't give him confidence ?

What he is being told by PCB, Selectors, Coaching staff is totally wrong in seems.

He needs to be told that he is not good enough for International side and top it up his attitude is pathetic. Not required anymore.

so you think his performance is good ?

His performance and fitness is rubbish.

good that you clear it up; it was looking from your previous post that you agree with him that only because of fitness issue he is out of the team

He is a very talented batsman like once Imran Nazir was. Umar just needs to play straight and learn to build innings. Plays everything towards on side. Umar and Imran even the likes of bowlers like Sami, Rana always had talent but they never developed into great cricketers bcz i think nobody realised their strenghts and worked on those strenghts to make them consistent performers. We have examples like Dravid , Cook, langer who were extremely limited but their coaches and other managers groomed their strengths and thus they became greats. PCB please dont waste the talent ..request from a kashmiri fan

like Imran Nazir was loooool

After watching his singing, dancing, and modeling stints on Twitter, I strongly believe he can make a career in media. We are already short of jokers in media. People of Pakistan needs to cheer up, only umar akmal can provide us the chuckles.

I just don't get why it's so hard for an international athlete to take care of his/her body, it's literally part of your job description.

so sad to hear. leave about international cricket in domestic cricket he didn't perform... I don't think he has any future in pak cricket. useless cricketer don't know y selectors r selecting him again and again and on what basis

PCB are inconsistent. On one hand they drop him due to fitness and on the other hand they award him Captaincy in their premier Domestic ODI Cup.

His head is messed up because PCB's actions are messed up

Attitude like yours is why despite having the talent he has made zero use of it. If you were a genuine fan and well wisher you would want him to reach his utmost potential. Kohli realized that his fitness was keeping him back and motivated himself to be the fittest he can and he instantly got great results and contributed greatly long term to the team. It is never about one match or series but your attitude and the habits you create. I think fans like you are a long way to go towards why some players get no reality check and still continue with their bad habits.

Not sure what he has said here is so controversial? Even PCB Chairman said the same about him

He is coming back for CT, in place of Asif Zakir & rightly so.

So could be a case of one Akmal out and one in if the fascination with Kamran Akmal comes to an end soon

Zero in today's Pakistan Cup game for Punjab vs Balochistan

This guy is a finished cricketer. We could see that he would never live up to the 2009/10 hype but his career has fallen flat much earlier than a lot of people would have expected. Looked clueless in Australia.

Well, he works on his fitness, but then he loses form (i.e. from average of mid teens to zero)
