Daniel Vettori’s All Time XI: in Limited overs

Ricky Ponting,
Rahul Dravid,
Virat Kohli (C),
AB de Villiers,
Sachin Tendulkar,
Kumar Sangakkara,
Adam Gilchrist (WK),
Sir Richard Hadlee
Shane Warne,
Muttiah Muralitharan,
Glenn McGrath,

Jacques Kallis (12th man)

Appears a flawed team with only four regular bowlers. Kohli is too inexperienced for a captain. I would have gone for Wasim Akram instead of Dravid or Sangakarra

How is RD in the all time XI? And there is only 4 bowlers the others are specialist batsmen.

Who will be the 5th bowler? Batting sides who bat 50 overs will score 300+ against this attack for fun

lol no Viv. It is his best XI and let it be. Some of his picks are highly debatable. Surely, there are many Indian openers who is better than Dravid in limited overs. I'd take Srikkanth over Dravid. Not to mention Shewag, Ganguly, Ghambir....

There is only one player who is present in All Great Elevens.

The one and the only - the Greatest of them all - Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar .

Lol @ no Pakistanis. That's too harsh by Dan. I will pick one among Wasim or Waqar in every team.

lollllll your last ten overs will be:

Ricky Ponting - Yorker specialist
Rahul Dravid - one tip
Virat Kohli (C) - express pace/yorkers
AB de Villiers - accurate orthodox
Sachin Tendulkar - all-time great mystery spin
Kumar Sangakkara - quality legspin

winning combination I suppose.

You need 6 bowlers in odi cricket.

4 odi bowlers is a joke in odi cricket.

4 bowlers lol? Just goes to show how much thought he put into this team. :))

Ponting opening the batting and sachin down the order 😂 kohli as captain 🙈 4 bowlers 🙈

I think there are more pressing issues with this team than the fact no pakistanis were picked.

Don't think this deserves a thread tbh.

It is one persons opinion, however for Pakistanis it is a matter of ego.

You have just contradicted yourself, read again.

I would probably drop Dravid and include Akram.

Rest of it looks fine. Richards has a claim but his 1983 WC finals performance took off a bit of the gloss.

Dravid and Hadlee are the two questionable picks. I'd pick Viv and Akram in place of these two. Otherwise, the picks are fine. Maybe drop Gilly, have Sanga keep and bring Kallis in.

Now i understand. Basically vettori picked a line up based on the players he played against.

Im assuming he never played against or saw akram?

Most of the batsmen in his team are batting at wrong positions and this is not 80s or early 90s that you can't play an ODI with 4 bowlers and use part timers for the remaining 10 overs.

these are all personnel preferences. Nothing serious in these elevens.Players like Bradman,Viv,Sobers,Botham,Kapil,Border,Imran,Trueman,Underwood,Roberts,Holding etc etc do not feature in most of these players elevens. In such elevens personnel preferences are the order.

Did he play against Hadlee?

Lol got me there
Probably hadlee is a national hero of nz, like how imran is for pakistan. Or saw hadlee alot on tv

Anyways his 4 bowler picks are ridiculous. Even if he didnt want to pick players he never played against, he could had chosen chris cairns or himself atleast.

Half of these guys didn't even play ODI..

Clearly he doesn't want to lose his IPL contract.

oh... didn't take note that this was his one day eleven.Yet most of the names i mentioned were great one day players or ' players with great potential who could have succeeded in one dayers too ' etc etc.

Sorry but that is one messed up team :)))

Surely he's just having a laugh hahaa

Actually hang on it's not for LOIs it's for Tests. Not all that bad then just missing an opener.

Id make changes too but then it would be my all time 11 and not his one.

You know Dan messed up bad, when Cat comes out of PP hibernation to share his two cents :)) :)).......

Where have you been my friend ??

There's been loads of ex and current players who have done there best 11 on cricinfo and none have included Pakistani players. Most of them have looked at players in there era but Vetori is contradictive for sure.

Its OK not to have Pakistani player but can;t imagine a world eleven without king Richard. Putting Dravid ahead of Richard is ridiculous as putting Misbah ahead of great Imran Khan .

Wasim should be there. And a fifth bowler (an AR) would have been very nice. It makes no sense to complete your 5th bowler option with Sachin, AB and maybe Kohli. Dont know why Dravid is there.

For an ODI team, Dravid/Kallis make no sense. There is no proper finisher either. A lack of a 6th bowling option and relying on Kallis for 10 overs is also suspect.

For a test team, there are vastly better options across the entire team.

One of the poorer all-time XIs that I've seen, even if he used no Pakistanis -- which is not that big of a deal.

The most horrible team I've seen. Dravid opening? Sachin at 5? Kohli captain? Sanga at 6? Four bowlers?

The current South African and Australian teams would beat this into submission.

is this an ODI all time XI ? if its a Test one then Kohli and AB have no business being there. Likewise Dravid has no business in an ODI all time XI.

This isn't his all-time ODI XI, it's his all-time Test XI. Also, the top 6 are in no particular order. Didn't find it that bad tbh. He has included players he has played against, except for Richard Hadlee of course who's considered a NZ cricketing legend. In the end, it's 'his' all-time XI.

Daniel is entitled to his opinion. Daniel would not be in my all time best side if I chose it three times.

Replace dravid with 12th Man Jacques Kallis.
Sachin to open with Ponting. Virat at no 3 and kallis no.4. Add Shaun Pollock or Klusener after Gilchrist.
And its a perfect team.

Pointing
Tendulkar
Kohli
Kallis
Abdv
Gilchrist
Shaun Pollack / Klusener
Warne
Murali
Hadlee
Mcgrath
