I still don't get Mohammad Nawaz - it's been nearly 7 years since his international debut and he's neither here nor there as a cricketer.
I wasn't impressed during his first run in the team. He debuted for Pakistan in 2016 having benefited from very spin friendly UAE wickets in PSL1.
He returned under Misbah last year in white-ball cricket and in fairness, bowled well against South Africa and since then formed a decent spin pairing with Shadab. He got taken apart by Phil Salt in one of the T20s vs ENG, and had that final over meltdown vs IND at the World Cup, but otherwise been tidy.
Still I don't see him tearing through lineups. He doesn't get much turn from his stock delivery.
Meanwhile his batting contributions were nonexistent for an all-rounder. His Asia Cup knock vs IND was his first meaningful innings as a batsman after a promotion to the middle-order. Overall he stays in white-ball cricket.
In Tests however you can't really afford such players. They must be as good as a specialist either as a batsman or bowler. Nawaz had a good series vs SL albeit in spinner's paradise Galle. On a turning wicket in Multan vs ENG, he's been outbowled by a rookie. Even Zahid's taken more wickets than him ! He played a reckless shot in 1st inns.
Mubasir is knocking on the door, so Nawaz must produce consistent performances or steps aside.
