City officials’ new drug-themed vending machine is a huge hit with local addicts — who wasted no time cleaning it out overnight as they stocked up on its free crack pipes, lip balm and Narcan.

“Yes, I love it,” drug user Evelyn Williams told The Post while standing at the “public health” vending machine in Brownsville, Brooklyn, on Tuesday. “They put it in yesterday, and it’s empty already.

By 1 p.m., a drug-prevention-program worker was starting to restock the machine with more drug-test strips, Narcan and condoms — predicting the vending machine could need to be refilled “maybe twice a day, depending on which items go quite quickly.’’

“We have a lot of addicts and heroin users over here,” Williams said. “They should re-stock it immediately!”

Self-described crack smoker Minoshi Calpe, 56, had walked away with the second-to-last product in the vending machine — a fentanyl test strip — around 11 a.m. while sniffing that the glass used for the free pipes might not be up to her standards.

“I like the Pyrex because it’s a little thicker,’’ she said, also lamenting that “you can’t even sell that [vending stuff] because the programs give you all that stuff” already for free.

Probably why people are moving to Texas, Florida in droves.
 
I mean its free, and it would be real stupidity if the addicts don't take it. If you keep a free vending machine for cigarette, beer, whisky, I am sure it would get cleaned out overnight.

Just because of drug abuse? Why is NY seeing such huge numbers of addicts?

NY in the 70's was the most modern city in the world, now its not even in the top 20.

There are no free drugs, only free pipes, needles, lip balm and other products to help users stay safe.

The problem is this wont reduce drug abuse or addiction. Deaths will continue to rise as the drugs being used such as Fentanyl, Meth are very addictive and dangerous.

Each machine costs the taxpayer $11000, not inc restocking. Surely the money should be spent by taking addicts off the streets and giving them real help.

NY was dump in 70s and 80s it was good from 1990-2015 its gone back to being terrible, remote work and massive expenses killing it again

It’s also due to relaxed rules similar issues in parts of Cali and Oregon and South/Central Chicago.
 
Dem ruled states and cities are cesspools. I sometimes wonder if they are against their own country and are colluding with socialists and communists to undermine USA.

Crack, Cocaine, Fentanyl, Race issues are ripe in Dem ruled cities. Not to forget, they are rewriting gender definition.

No wonder people are running from California, NY, Minnesota etc to Texas and Florida.

Sure, the infrastructure was modern enough then. USA is in decline ,the nation has used imperialism and simply printing/borrowing billions yearly to become so rich but those days are gone now.

Nyc was a dump in the 70s and 80s . Guliani is credited with cleaning up the city in early 90s. The reason there are so many homeless in nyc is because other cities put them on a bus and send them here . They can survive by begging on the street in an urban environment.

Yup i guess a couple of years ago, along with Illinois it became legal.

Texas has great functional infrastructure, I have seen Florida,Virginia and Carolinas are also doing as well.

For now thanks to a divided US it will work to its benefit as people have many options to move around and be productive. Future only time will tell.

Florida seems to be the best state esp to visit. It seems the 'liberal' states are seeing a decline.

Nearly 3000 died due to drug overdose in NYC in 21, which saw a rise of over 70% from the previous year. It will be interesting to see if this figure rises or declines next year.
 
Going to NY is an experience. You will see a lot of bare foot crack addicts even in busy tourist areas. These dudes are crazy and talking to themselves or lying in dirty urine infested streets.

Cannabis is also legal. You can buy from trucks on the side of the road.

Usa has an opiate crisis for sure and the government response is very lacking. But it’s not as bad as you are describing. I have lived here for over 2 decades and plan on staying here for good.

Its not a concern for me. Florida seems to have the most freedom. NYC has these vending machines but Florida has 3 x the overdose deaths.

It’s urban and population density. More opinad users in rural towns and more poverty in rural towns. But yes since 2003 to 20023 it’s gotten worse for sure.
 
USA has huge opiate crisis. This is in Philly but have seen somewhat similar scenes in SF and New York. This particular area, Kensington Avenue, is known for it for long time.

Fentanyl addiction is destroying many city youth in US. Parents who do not take responsibility of their children, War veterans suffering from PTSD are easy pray for this epidemic.

Government is too soft on the drug dealers. Fentanyl comes into the country through the southern border. Thousands come into the country illegally everyday. Their background is not thoroughly checked. Its a mess and the blame should go on the Democratic party.

I think both parties. Republicans for a decade have been defunding agencies that deal with drug issues and mental issues and homeless issues. Also republican policies have widened the income differences between people. Also pharma is responsible for pushing opioids . The sacker family I believe.

The video of the streets is very disturbing, something out of some horror movie. Europe has its issues but you wont find this anywhere.

Imo this is more of American culture, changing governments wont make much a difference now as the drug abuse is common now. I would say the governments are allowing drug addiction to flourish. Keeping the population dumbed down, on drugs, on booze, busy watching Hollywood movies etc can then be controlled easier.

As for the family system , total breakdown in cities. I dont have much sympathy for soldiers/veterans, pointing guns or worse shooting children dead in a land which has done nothing to you will of course destroy your mind, and rightly so.

I don’t think it’s just as simple. What are the top five countries with the highest heroine addicts ( not )
opioids). Don’t remember the order. But it’s iran, Afghan, Pakistan , Russian, Maldives. Usa not far behind either. But those are the top .

Why just heroine? Top consumers and addicts of drugs are the USA people, there isnt a debate.

Its understandable in some very poor nations people go through a through tough life with no social security or benefits and end up in drug abuse. USA to be in a worse position than all of these shows USA way of life, culture, secular liberalism, its foreign policy, corruption and pure stupidness of governance has failed its people. In 30-50 years, this land will be broken down and moving towards the 2nd or even 3rd world.

this fentanyl is mostly pushed through southern border from China. I don't know if there are any nefarious designs, but China is just a big manufacturer of all APIs including fentanyl. Once it is in the states it is easy to spread as the quantity required to get high is extremely small.

It is easy to get hooked, easy to transmit and comparatively cheap. Most kids have easy access to it and there is very little you can do about it. Since the quantity is so less for overdosing, a lot of kid fall for it.

USA is one of the top consumers of opiates. By the way Iran and Afghan are top and Pakistan is not very far behind. And none of these countries are driven by US way of life, culture, secular liberalism, etc. Poverty, "tough life with no social security or benefits" are also not a clear driver for drug addiction, as much richer counters with better social security like USA, UK, Denmark, Italy, Ireland, etc have higher prevalence of drug use than poorer countries like India, Nepal, Bangladesh, etc. Anecdotally I have seen more poor people addicted to tobacco and alcohol and rich people addicted to hard drugs.

While the top five countries on these lists may differ in order, the United States, Russia, Afghanistan, and Iran consistently appear. However, the rankings of the United States have decreased in some instances, particularly due to marijuana no longer being considered in the count. Some assessments exclude opioids from pharmaceutical sources. Surprisingly, these countries, despite being conservative and valuing strong family ties, face alarmingly high addiction rates. It’s important to acknowledge that the breakdown of families, government policies, and poverty also contribute to this issue. Your comments about the breakup of the country have no place in this discussion.

Drug use leading to deaths is the issue, which I have alluded too in the thread. Cigarettes, alcohol, pharma tablets are also drugs.

In fact the USA has 10s of millions addicted to tablets such as anti-depressants but most dont die.

More people use some sort of intoxicants in the US than any other nation on the planet, its not even close.

More people die of drug abuse in the US than any other nation, its not even close.

You have just shifted the goal post . We were talking about drug users and your point of view got slaughtered. Hence you changed the subject. Also not many people smoke in usa. If you took cigs then maybe China would come on top. No organization takes cigs and alcohol as drugs in surveys . What are you going to add next “ lard”.

There are many intoxicants, its not a huge issue if nobody dies or people die because of others abusing them.

If you want to only discuss addiction or intake, go for it but my only care is of deaths. The reason why NYC installed the vending machines, to stop deaths ! Are you still with me ?

No question CCP has hand in it. They are doing everything oy undermine US. In fact the radical left and socialist ideology that is getting pushed though universities and colleges are also funded by CCP.

I am pretty sure US knows about it. But politicians are obviously compromised. They just turn a blind eye. China will greatly benefit if US weakens.
