One of the weakest Pakistan sides to visit India in recent times pulled off a memorable victory to draw the series in Bangalore. The architect of the win was Younis Khan, who scored 267 - the highest then by a visiting batsman in India - and added 324 with Inzamam-ul-Haq (184). Virender Sehwag's double-hundred - he became the fastest Indian to reach 3000 runs during his innings - gave India some hope of holding on to the series but Danish Kaneria and Mohammad Sami triggered a collapse after Sehwag's fall. Younis got a half-century in the second innings and Pakistan managed to take all 10 wickets on the fifth day for a 168-run win.

Mohammad Sami triggering a collapse? This must be some parallel universe.

Brilliant game .. Inzi's 184 was the highlight for me along with Afridi's matchwinning 2nd innings 58 and 3-13 :afridi

On This Day 28th March 2005: Pakistan Defeat India in Bangalore and Draw Series

It's a shame Afridi never took Test cricket seriously, he would have done better than what he had achieved in ODIs.

this game was the one that turned YK and his career from mediocre to a great player and me from someone that loathed his presence in the team to a big fan. Remember it well

A great test victory. Mohammad Sami was erratic but bowled some jaffas in that game

The Pathan hattrick was in 2006 final test match at Karachi. We were 39-6 before kami along with Razzaq and shoaib took us to 240 odd. Then asif wobbled his way through the Indians.

This test match in Bangalore is one of my favourites of all time. Razzaq getting sehwag run out was a huge turning point and gave our team the belief they needed.

I enjoyed this series, we were massive underdogs but played with tremendous fight and spirit.

What a match that was.

Thank you Afridi for this series levelling performance from you.
Inzi's and younis' batting was also great..

If I recall correctly I watched all 5 days play, that means it must have been Easter holidays.

YK and Inzi were great players of spin bowling they managed Indian bowlers very well.

Can never forget the look on Ganguly's face when Afridi bowled him

Younis and Kaneria at their best. Inzamam a little after his prime, but a beast of a player and an ever more effective captain.

That couple of year stretch where Pak and India went back and forth was awesome. Some of the best cricket I have ever seen

One of the great matches of my childhood. Younis Khan playing a blinder and supported well by Inzamam also Kaneria and Afridi bowling was solid as well.

Masterclass performance from Pakistan. One of our greatest away wins.

Wow can’t believe it’s been 15 years since that amazing series!! :)

Definitely turned around YK’s career at the time not to mention Afridi and Inzy at their peak (in test cricket)

Former Pakistan captain Inzamam ul Haq has said that he once proved then coach Bob Woolmer wrong during their famous Bangalore Test victory against India.

In a YouTube video, he revealed that Woolmer had thought that his decision to declare was wrong.

It was the third Test of the 2005 series and Pakistan had to win it to level the series 1-1. They eventually won by 168 runs against Sourav Ganguly's India.

"My 100th Test match [in Bangalore] was a very special moment for me. The entire tour was very special," Inzamam said on his Youtube channel.

"The Bangalore Test was very important for us as a team. When we were going for that India series in 2005, all analysts and former cricketers claimed this was the weakest Pakistan team touring India. They believed we would get quashed by a strong India side. We did not have a powerful bowling attack and I, as captain, was confused how we would get them out," the stylish right-handed batsman said.

Inzamam said that a partnership between all-rounder Abdul Razzaq and wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal was instrumental in turning things around for the away side during the first Test.

"We were losing our first Test. We had lost wickets. Kamran Akmal and Abdul Razzaq were standing at the crease. I think Kamran played one of the best innings of his life and we avoided failure. Our team was really down and we did not have big players in the side. The partnership between Kamran and Razzaq brought new life to the team," he said.

He said he was under pressure to deliver in the third Test and his father had come to watch him play for the first time.

"My father had never come to see me perform, but this was the only match he ever saw me perform live in which added more pressure on me apart from it being my 100th Test. People were also saying before the series that this would be my last as a player and as a captain," he said.

Inzamam said Virender Sehwag, who was adjudged Man of the Series later, was their main threat.

"India had to save the last day and they went into a negative mindset. Virender Sehwag was the only player who I thought could take the game away from us. I even said this in our team meeting that if we get Sehwag, India will not be able to chase down the target," he said.

"When I was about to declare in the second innings, I sent a message to Bob Woolmer that I wanted to give some overs to India today. Woolmer said that the captain and vice-captain should make that call. I asked Younis who agreed with me. I wanted to take a chance and called for the declaration. India had a great start in those overs. When I came back Woolmer said that he thought my decision to declare was wrong."

The 50-year-old stressed that his decision to declare early helped Pakistan win the Test.

"The next day, I told my team that if we get Sehwag then they won't be able to chase it down. That day, Razzaq ran Sehwag out. I thought that if Razzaq can run a batsman out, then it is definitely our day. India went into defensive mode after the wicket. I attacked with our fielders and even a batsman like Sachin Tendulkar couldn't score. When we got to the last part of the match, we got an extra six or seven overs which vindicated my decision to declare early," he said.

Inzamam further revealed many players had conspired against him by refusing to tour so that he could be removed as skipper.

"Some key players had even refused to tour India in this series and I was left with a very weak attack against a very strong Indian batting line-up. I think they believed that after losing this series I would be removed as captain and that could create chances for them," he concluded.

A blast from the past.

Inzi and YK on top of their game, with fine bowling efforts from Kaneria and Sami.

Good win by Pakistan.

Our mistake was we closed the shutters down on victory right after Sehwag got run out. Everybody else then went into a shell and in that situation it's only a matter of time before a ball with their name on it came along.

It was Tendulkar who is in the way and I remember when Afridi got him out.

Afridi was excellent in that series, both Test and ODI.. iirc he got some award by Pak govt (or pcb?) due to his performance in that series..

Would've been got MoS award in 2007 WC had he didn't get unnecessary ban prior to World Cup (he missed first two matches due to that).
