On This Day: May 4, 1990 - Wasim Akram took a hat-trick as Pakistan beat Aus to win Australasia Cup

The 1990 Australasia Cup Final saw Pakistan and Australia go head to head in Sharjah. Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat. Saleem Malik scored 87 and anchored Pakistan's innings after a dismal show by middle order. Pakistan finished the innings strongly with 266 runs on the board courtesy of Wasim Akram's quick fire 49 off 35 balls which included three 6's. Wasim Akram was not finished yet as he went on to bowl a match-winning spell that included a hattrick. Requiring 37 to win off 18 balls, Wasim Akram ended any hopes that Australia had of winning that match.

4 May 1990

A second one-day hat-trick in six months for Wasim Akram, as Pakistan beat Australia by 36 runs in the Sharjah final. Wasim finished things off by bowling Merv Hughes, Carl Rackemann and Terry Alderman with consecutive deliveries.
Wasim is the only man to have taken two hat-tricks in Tests and one-day internationals.


In same Match Wasim bhai scored 49 runs on 35 balls with a strike rate of 140. Hitting 3 Sixes and 1 four. due to his all round performance, Pakistan was able to win that Final.
