Didn't realize Pak's first test series win against India came that late. Whats the test record right now, i think just 3 wins separate us, thats a shame considering Pakistani clearly had a far superior test side skills wise for most of the time.

India's first series victory in Pakistan came in 2004 and didnt came after that again

3 match lead is a decent lead for Pakistan taking into account the pitches on which Pak-India play have resulted in very less result oriented matches for example 2006 series in Pakistan there were 2 dull draws and in 1987 series in India which Pakistan won had similar share of drawn matches

1978 isnt late at all, Mid 60s to Mid 70s was Perhaps Pakistan's weakest era and they didnt play much before that

This was true only of the 90s when the two teams did not play much. Most matches ended in draws because the teams were evenly matched. India did not play Pakistan with Wasim and Waqar at their peaks, so maybe the H2H does not fully reflect the difference between the teams.

Pakistan had a brillaint team in the 80s as well, second only to West Indies.

We declined post Inzi big way, and India could have won a few tests in that period as well.

India's batting was pretty robust during the 80s, so Pakistan found it hard to beat India during the 80s except in one home series. India's bowling was also good for SC conditions. 80% of the matches between these two teams ended in draws during the 80s.

Oddly enough, India's W/L ratio is better against Aus and SA than Eng. Guess the phaintas till the 60s didn't help

Well that was a big acheivement, India ere garbage away but were wonderful at home in the 80s, and I think Bar WI Pak were the only team who challanged India at their home in 80s
