In Sharjah, Pakistan walked into the 6th match of the Coca-Cola Champions Trophy vs West Indies on a hot streak. They had beat the same opponents in their first match by 130 runs, and then proceeded to tie an epic match vs Sri Lanka out of nowhere thanks to heroics by Abdul Razzaq. It only seemed fit that they see one outstanding performance and Azhar Mahmood duly obliged.
Skipper Moin Khan won the toss and elected to bat first. His batsmen backed his decision by putting up a competitive total of 255/5 in their 50 overs. The backbones of the total were 17-year old Hasan Raza (77), Inzamam-ul-Haq (61), and Mohammad Yousuf (71*). Yousuf's innings was particularly helpful due to the high-strike that it composed of, coming off only 46 balls, including four sixes. Pakistan scored 99 runs off their final 10 overs.
In the West Indies' reply, Mohammad Akram struck early, having Sherwin Campbell caught behind for 4 runs in the third over. They would then recover to 92/3 after 19.5 overs. It was all downhill from there, however, as West Indies collapsed to 117 all out in 31.3 overs. Seven wickets were lost for only 25 runs. The pick of the bowlers was all-rounder Azhar Mahmood who picked up his ODI career-best bowling figures of 6/18 in 10 overs.
Pakistan won by 138 runs.
