*

Following is the transcript of the Anti-Doping Tribunal’s Report:

Under Article 5.1 of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s Anti-Doping Code (“the Anti-Doping Rules”) PCB conducted in-competition testing through an independent collecting agency, during the Faysal Bank T-20 Cup held at Lahore in November 2013.

*

The agency collected the urine sample of Umaid Asif for dope test during the match played on*Nov. 29, 2013*between the State Bank of Pakistan and the KRL in order to detect use of Prohibited Substancesand Prohibited Methods identified in the prohibited list.

*

The sample was forwarded to National Dope Testing Laboratory (WADA-accredited laboratory) New Delhi, India for analysis which vide its Analytical Report dated*10-01-2014*gave an Adverse Analytical finding for substances “prednisolone and prednisone”, both of which fall under category S9.Glucocorticosteroids in the 2013 WADA Prohibited List*

*

Accordingly, Umaid Asif was issued a Notice of Charge by PCB onMarch 25, 2014*wherein he was provisionally suspended from participating in any form of cricket pending the proceedings of the Anti-Doping Tribunal. The Anti-Doping Tribunal comprised Mr Shahid Karim, Advocate Supreme Court, Mr. Wasim Bari, and Dr Ucksy Mallick.

*

After conducting detailed personal hearings, the Anti-Doping Tribunal found Umaid Asif guilty of violating Article 2.1 of the PCB’s Anti-Doping Code*(presence of a prohibited substance or its Metabolites or Markers in a Cricketer’s Sample)*and imposed a one-year ban on Umaid Asif which will be deemed to have commenced from*January 23, 2014. is he the lanky bowler that plays for sailkot stallions?

Yeah. And he was quite talented as well, but pakistani players know how to mess up their careers so no surprises here.

Doesn't Pakistan have it's own testing facilities? Seems rather strange to be outsourcing sensitive information to another country, particularly one which has had strained relations to say the least.

Anyhow, good to see that the PCB are starting to take their roles seriously, catching these guys lower down the chain will hopefully send out a message that cheating doesn't pay at any level.

Hello People. Before you guys judge me I think you should first Google the medicine I was tested positive for. In case no one paid attention the generic name are ''prednisolone and prednisone''. It isn't what M. Asif, Shoaib Akhter or Shane Warne were tested positive for as those were performance enhancing body building steroids. It is kind of a life saving drug. I'm allergic to sea food and a bit asthmatic as well from childhood. In short I had a severe allergic reaction from prawn soup I was taken to the nearest clinic by my Maternal Uncle. I lost a bit of conscience. The allergic reaction triggered my asthma so breathing was uneasy. I had no idea what the doctor administered me at that time. I gained a bit of conscience later on in the night but still wasn't well. this happened on 24th. I rested for 2 days then the T20 tournament started. I missed the first 2 T20s and then i played the one on 29th Nov 2013 and the same day my name popped up for Dope test. I gave it confidently and I even told about the incident to the sample collector. To cut it short, I didn't take the meds to enhance my performance or cheat, I was administered the med by the doctor. Even Dr. Nauman Niaz in his show next day defended me and told about the medicine and what it is for and what it does and that the ban imposed on me is very harsh considering Abdul Rahman only given 3 months suspension, and Asif, Akhtar given only 1 year ban for taking sports performance enhancing drugs. I wanted to appeal against the decision but decided against it as the PCB tribunal had already taken almost nine months to decide about my case, and only 3 months were left, and they might take 9 more if i appealed. So I against appealing and thought of it all as a big jolt/break from Allah to come back harder, stronger, more determined, focused and motivated than ever before. May Allah help me.
If you guys need more details about the whole thing I'm available. Thanks.

Very sad to hear that. May Allah make it easy for you and may your comeback be even greater.

Thanks for clarifying and sharing this with us all.

Thanks for confirming this Umaid.

All the best for the future.

That's tough luck yaar, but I guess from the PCB's point of view, rules are rules, especially as they themselves are under scrutiny. But good luck on your comeback and stick with it.

Damn. Tough luck Umaid.
Don't get disheartened though. Keep working hard & inshaAllah you'll make a good comeback.

I've taken prednisone before. I think that's really unfair being banned over that, as you said it's not a performance enhancing drug nor even a recreational one. And being asthmatic when you've got an episode and you can hardly breathe and are taken to hospital, and given these drugs, you aren't exactly thinking that straight, all your mind is processing on wanting to breathe.

Hope your ban is rescinded straight away. This isn't fair at all.

Being a doctor myself i can say dat its a harsh & totally unfair decision ...its a life-saving drug & is totally different from the anabolic steroids which ppl like Akhtar etc had been tested positive for ...i guess u shud have appealed coz its a question of integrity for u & ur career ... Wishing u all the best !

I wonder why PCB took that silly decision.
I guess umaid should have informed PCB medical panel about the medications he was already on. Probably there was delay on his part to inform PCB.

Wow, this is the first time I've seen a player comment here.

Haha trust me more cricketers visit this site then you think. Cricketers are people and naturally they want to know what is being said about them.

I can tell you that one cricketer has actually visited PP from my account :)

Damn, is that actually Umaid!?

Feel sorry for you bro! Don't get disheartened - you will be back Insha'Allah!

May we know who? :shehzad

how soon everyone was mocking Umaid without taking a look at any of the details, shame on all of you ignorant judgemental people, after Umaid had to explain his story everyone was being condescending and comparing him to Mohammad Asif

Please appeal to PCB and explain your situation with Doctor's prescription. INSHALLAH everything will be alright.

Best of luck, Umaid. Hope you come back with a bang.

Very harsh but can understand where Umaid is coming from, we all know how inept and unprofessional PCB are so appealing could make it worse.

Keep working hard and you will be back better than ever.

I wish and hope there should be some PCB official watching PPers discussions. I believe it is a big platform where viewers/players/journalist/official can participate and interact each other and bring back a positive change amongst over cricket team.

All the best for Umaid Asif for his career ahead.

I'm a medical doctor, and prednisone is one of the most commonly used drugs for severe asthma; it's not a performance enhancing drug at all; an absolute rubbish ban, and should be appealed diligently.

I've had prednisone too, it's really common. I've used it heaps of times for my asthma, and I don't think it's performance enhancing. It's a life saving drug I think. This ban is not fair at all.

I sympathetize with Umaid and understand his situation. I am also glad that he has handled this like a true professional unlike most Pakistani players who would go claiming conspiracy against them to anyone who would listen. But I would like to let everyone know that prednisone is a banned substance by World Anti Doping agency. So PCB did the right thing here, the responsibility of what you put on your body is solely the athlete's responsibility. Its unfortunate but that's how it works IOC, FIFA or pretty much any sporting body in the world.

They say never judge someone before you know the whole story.
And I guess that's one of the reasons.

I have a question that maybe you can answer.

How much of the restricted drugs section do the cricketers who play the domestics know about? Does PCB actually give the domestic players seminars on drug abuse and which drugs are banned by WADA and other drug control protocols?
Are you guys told in advance about the possibility of random checking and urine testing that may occur before a tournament?

I am more worried that other players may also not know this and PCB instead of slapping bans should work more on awareness of players than anything else.

Thank you all for understanding. You have no idea how badly i wanted to appeal but I told you the reason why I couldn't.
I'm gonna write to ICC about finishing my ban earlier as I might lose the job in KRL if I'm unable to play the One-Day tournament which starts on 12th Jan and my ban ends on 23rd. I've been working really hard so I could play the One-Day tournament which was scheduled to start on 25th Jan as per PCB domestic calender issued in August i think. But now I've heard it's starting on 12th. Sigh.
This ban hurt me badly in every way possible right from the beginning of the suspension from February. Especially when you look around the globe with athletes banned only for 3 to 6 months when tested positive for Prednisolone and Prednisone and even few other drugs having greater effect than prednisonlone. e.g. Upul Tharanga Srilanka, Vaughn Van Jaarsveld Southafrica etc.
But then Allah has his ways. Lets see what's next. Hopefully ICC considers my application. Prayers needed. Thanks.

It's our duty to know which drugs are banned. Pcb does organise one lecture per season for domestic teams. They show a video of a guy who can't reach the top but then he uses banned substance to enhance his performance but eventually gets caught and the side effects of using the steroids.
Dr. Sohail is the Anti Doping Manager in Pakistan. He organises the lecture. But it's not about the lecture. There are faults in the Anti-doping code which need to be addressed. I gave them the prescription and the tribunal talked to the doctor as well. And the thing is when you are in such condition your only priority becomes just to breathe rather than telling the doctor that please go to the WADA website and check for the banned substances and then treat me with something which isn't in that list. That would be absurd.

This is rubbish by the PCB as usual. The ban should be overturned as soon as possible and I hope the PakPassion Team can put forth the case to the PCB officials as well.

Impressed with how Umaid is reacting to all this. Really hope he doesn't lose his KRL job.

Umaid doing well in Sharjah

He took 6 for 41

Report ask below

Samiullah Younis scored a decisive unbeaten half century to guide Danube Lions to a close one-wicket victory over Ibsons Group in the opening match of the 42nd Bukhatir League cricket Tournament 2016 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The tournament is organized by Sharjah Cricket Council.

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Ibsons Group got off to a fine start with skipper Baber Malik scoring an impressive 47 from 61 deliveries including six boundaries.

Waheed Ahmed (10) and Omair Shaukat (16) both had good starts but failed to build on.

But it was a cracking innings from wicket-keeper batsman Faisal Ather that provided Ibsons the right platform as he blasted his way to a superb 78-ball 81 peppered with six boundaries and four sixes.

Danube Lions’ Ali Afzal bowled an amazing spell picking up four crucial wickets in the middle order as Danube Lions achieved 249 in 49.1 overs.

Sajjad Ali (28, 29b, 1x4, 2x6) and Fayyaz Ahmed (26, 31, 3x4) were the other significant contributors.

For Danube Lions, Farhan Ahmed was the other successful bowler to claim three wickets in his 8.1 overs.

Chasing a tricky target, Danube Lions were in for a rude shock when pacer Umaid Asif scalped two wickets in his very first over. Both batsmen – Ashfaq Ahmed and Shahzad Manna - out for a naught.

Habib Ghazi complemented Umaid Asif’s efforts as he also bagged a wicket in the next over leaving Danube Lions reeling at 4 for 3.

Shaiman Anwar and Adnan Mufti (4, 18b) got things back to normalcy as the duo carefully stitched together 22 runs for the fourth wicket.

But with runs not coming off Mufti’s bat the pressure got on to him and Umaid Asif bowled a beauty to rattle his stumps.

Gulraiz Sadae who joined Anwar managed to stick around in the middle as he cautiously added 17 runs from 29 deliveries including two boundaries before being trapped in front of Misbah Khan bowling.

Meanwhile, Anwar (54) reached a fine half century from 72 deliveries containing three boundaries and a six before he also succumbed to Umaid Asif.

With still a mountain to climb and five wickets down, it was the innings of Samiullah Younis that raised Danube Lions hopes of chasing down the target.

Amir Hayat gave him a strong company to score a steady 47-ball 32 but once he fell it looked like Samiullah Younis would run out of partners.

And that just looked to happen before Umaid Asif came back to haunt the Danube Lions batsmen as he quickly wiped out two lower order batsmen leaving the last pair needing six runs off the last eight balls. Umaid Asif finished his spell with six wickets giving away 41 runs.

But with Samiullah Younis still on strike there was hope. He did not disappoint as stayed till the end to finish it off with a fine boundary. His entertaining 92 came off 91 deliveries studded with 11 hits to the fence and two over it.

Brief scores: Danube Lions bt Ibsons Group by 1 wicket. Ibsons Group: 249 all out in 49.1 over (Baber Malik 47, Waheed Ahmed 10, Omair Shaukat 16, Faisal Ather 81, Sajjad Ali 28, Fayyaz Ahmed 26, Umaid Asif 12 not out; Ali Afzal 4 for 46, Farhan Ahmed 3 for 39). Danube Lions: 252 for nine in 49.5 overs (Shaiman Anwar 54, Gulraiz Sadaf 17, Amir Hayat 32, Samiullah Younis 92 not out; Umaid Asif 6 for 41). Man of the match: Samiullah Younis. Umpires: Ifthikar Ali and Naveed Ismail. Scorers: Zameel Hameed and M Asif.

It's a bit sad that's he's been banned for prednisolone. I am currently taking prednisolone due to my asthma and it is a common medicine given. Shows how much of an intelligent board the PCB is.

Well done Umaid!Good to see he is/was a poster here

He joined to clarify himself when posters were taking a go at him for being a "druggie"... seems educated and well spoken lol

Well done to the lad, I hope he gets to the T20 side.
