Salman Butt speaking on TV after the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final:

"This was an interesting QEA Trophy final, and when I went for the final presentation, I forgot to thank the groundsman as we havent seen such good quality pitches this season"

"It is not true that my interest in cricket has become lesser this year and my form is also fine"

"I am getting a good feel when the bat meets the ball but unfortunately I have not been able to translate that into bigger runs"

"I played really well in the National T20 where I was averaging 109.33 and SR was 133.87 and I was also not out in 4 games"

"If you look at the stats in QEA, there is no opener or one-down batsman in the top 10 players"

"Fact of the matter is that given the ball which has been used, there is little chance of playing strokes in the first 20-25 overs"

"If you are dealing with exaggerated seam for the first 20-25 overs then most batsmen will not have chance to score"

"This is a question for selectors to answer; when I scored 100s in both innings in last year's QEA final then they still did not play me"

"I am not worried because if I am called in to play international cricket, I know that I am middling the ball and our domestic cricket is tougher than international cricket"

"No international cricket is played in such bowler friendly conditions"

"Yes quality of bowling is high but even in England there are not such bowling friendly conditions"

"Mentally I am fit and I am scoring runs in every other tournament"

"I had the highest runs in the high-performance camp"

"I was always conveyed positive messages by Mickey Arthur and Grant Flower that there was attention on me"

"that I should keep on getting runs and they were trying for me (to get selected)"

"Whenever I have met Inzi he has encouraged me and told me that I will play"

"But where and when I will play, no one seems to know!"

"I saw a youtube clip in which (Inzi) said that they want me to play in the A Team but many months have gone and nothing has happened"

"Cricket is my passion and I want to play for my country and that's all that keeps me going"

"I know that there are people with lesser performances than me and they have represented Pakistan"

"The ball that Kamran Akmal got when he was 67 seamed about a foot!"

"In this game some of Pakistan's top bowlers were playing but the type of bowling Samiullah and Waqas did was exceptional"

"Samiullah was blowing kisses for someone else not me"

Samiullah is quite the entertainer.

"Pakistan domestic cricket is in a state of disarray" : Aamir Sohail

A few days later....

"Our domestic cricket is tougher than international cricket" : Salman Butt

If our domestic cricket is tougher than internationals, then why are there so many batsmen piling on runs like it’s nothing in domestics and can’t even buy a run in internationals.

That is because they are selected on the basis of one season.

Majority of players who have been piling runs over many seasons and average 50 plus in FC like Fawad etc and bowlers who average below 21 like Sadaf remain unselected.

If you look at Younis Khan's domestic stats, his average in FC is lower than International cricket.Almost all our greats had extremely good FC stats.

Problem lies with selection.

According to this Statement, Ahmad Shahzad should be the Don Bradman of International cricket

Salman Butt is right. Pitches in domestic cricket are atrocious generally. It is tough for openers to shine.

There is no point attacking the person, rather than the argument.

Legally Butt should come in. But he will be a massive distraction to the team and will undo the perpetual rebuilding process .

Based on what should he come in and in what format?

I just think that apart from difficult pitches, Salman Butt is showing age-related decline.

I feel sorry for Salman, always had a soft corner for him. Every time he gets close to selection something goes wrong.

Initially when Pakistan were struggling for openers and Waqar suggested his name for WT20 in 2016, he was told to play atleast one year in domestic circuit.

When he performed well last year and was about to be considered by Inzi, the PSL spot fixing scandal brokeout and he it was deemed an inappropriate time to reintegrate him

Now when he had his best chance of making a test comeback and impressed Mickey with his fitness in high performance camp, he lost form in QEA Trophy.

Bad luck has struck Salman time and again, but for a good player and brilliant captain that he was, he has brought it upon himself by indulging in Spot Fixing in the first place. Salman could have been one of the best captains to lead Pakistan, probably he could have lead Pakistan for the last 6-7 years, had he not done that mistake.

I think what is means is probably, it is tougher to bat in Pakistan domestic cricket. Which is a valid statement when you consider the top 5-6 bowlers average in the teens. You have a 38 year old international reject getting 60 wickets at 9.6. This shows that the pitches are extremely in favour of the bowlers which cannot be good for the batters.
