"Pakistan’s security situation is not such where you can have a series on their soil" : Rajiv Shukla

Senior BCCI official Rajeev Shukla on Sunday made it clear that the Indian team will not be touring Pakistan due to serious security concerns that have been raised by all major cricketing nations.

Pakistan has recently sent a legal notice to BCCI claiming $6.9 million in damages for not honouring the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that was signed between the two boards.

“They have sent a notice and we will give appropriate response. We have had a consistent policy that we will play on each other’s soil. Pakistan’s security situation is not such where you can have a series on their soil. Only Zimbabwe has played a series and no other countries are touring Pakistan because they are not being able to provide adequate security,” Shukla told mediapersons on Sunday.

The Congress MP said that if other countries are not feeling secure, it is even more sensitive when it comes to the Indian cricket team considering the tension that persists on the border.

“First you make your venues such where you can provide foolproof security. And for India, the security concerns are even more. How can we risk our players?” he said.

While Shukla stressed that agreement is to play on each other’s soil, a question was asked why can’t the two countries play on neutral venues like they played West Indies in USA.

Shukla said: “That series (two T20 Internationals) was played on mutual consent. We were exploring the US market. It was our series. It’s not because as if we couldn’t play in West Indies and played in the US. About playing Pakistan at neutral venue, the two boards should agree.”

Even BCCI joint secretary Amitabh Chaudhary agreed that only government can take a call when it comes to playing Pakistan.

“I can assure you this is a subject on which government has to accord permission. BCCI has already written to government in March regarding out Futures Tours & Programmes (FTP). So unless we get permission from them, I can’t make a comment,” Chaudhary said.

But he said that one needs to honour FTP commitments.

“Where it’s FTP between two countries, it’s a contract both will try to honour.”

Ofcourse no team will agree to play in pakistan given the situation however in UAE both teams can play but ofcourse the boards will need permission form their respective governments. PCB is not in position to insist other teams to play in pakistan.

Then play Pak in uae or sl or bd .

This is beyond me. They can easily play in the UAE if there is a political will.

Just rejecting the proposal to play Pakistan in Pakistan on the grounds of security when there are other options is dubious.

I don't like Pak forcing bd to play in Pak and also don't like ind refusing to play Pak in any neutral venue. Bd would be very glad to organise that clash and the tickets of those matches will be golden egg to be found.

The relations between pakistan india are at all time low , india are getting more than enough cricket without playing with pakistan and earning a lot of money. Ofcourse India Pakistan series will earn them a lot but they can live without it and have no reason really to press their government for a indopak series. On the other hand PCB have their eyes on the money they can earn from an indopak series and definitely it hurts PCB a lot more than it hurts BCCI.

bottomline is that ... India is afraid of the Pakistan Team .... these are all the excuses to avoid the Sher team that smashes everything that is in its path .... thats the reality. Don't forget that. waleed88 Bilal7

May be they will think about it now with the new financial terms of the ICC as they are greedy for money... they might choose eng as a neutral venue...

haha , well there is some jangoism here like this but its all fun i believe.

South Africa has a huge desi community and both India and Pakistan get good support.

South Africa has already hosted an IPL event and cannot see why India cannot play Pakistan in South Africa

As far as I am aware, a neutral venue means not in Pakistan. Maybe the BCCI are forgetting what a neutral venue means.
