No team chases as well as Pakistan does in test cricket. Turning it in in tje 4th inning is a unique gift that Pakistani batsmen possess.

They have been unlucky to get so near but lose by few runs in the end so many times.

India definitely isn't anywhere near this.

Agreed. The resillience and guts which Pakistan's batsmen keep delivering in 4th inning is unimaginable. Led by Younis Khan in past, it is something that is instilled in many of their cricketers.

I wish we were anywhere as good as Pakistan in 4th inning chases. Imagine if we were as good as them, I am sure we would have won a few more overseas tests and then that Ravi Shastri claim that Indian test team legacy is similar to West Indies and Australia would have been considered far more seriously.

You have all the license to troll brother OP.

But you can certainly do better than this childish stuff. My personal opinion.

Is Pakistan the most unlucky team right now?

Rankings show that Pakistan is ranked 7th in tests and 6 in Odis. Ranking is based on results. Pakistan hasn't produced great results in recent times and lost very often against top sides but they have been a competitive in most matches, unlike the sides like SRL, BD, WI.

Post Younis-Misbah era:

Pakistan lost 0-2 vs SRL at UAE but both were close matches

A year later, Pakistan lost 1-2 vs NZL at home. The one test Pakistan won was one sided but the tests they lost were the ones where they had a big lead after the first innings.

In the World Cup, Pakistan finished 5th and missed out on SF spot due to NRR. Pakistan were very unfortunate that their match against SRL was washed out.

Against Eng, they had reduced hosts to 117-5 but Buttler & Woakes, both of whom were struggling as test batsmen, took away the game from Pakistan.

Pakistan now lost a test against NZL after putting a brave fight. They were just 4 overs away from snatching a draw.

Is the lack of experience costing Pakistan close matches? Will the youngsters get better improve and start seizing the big moments in future? Share your thoughts.

Not unlucky. Just not good enough. You can't be unlucky in majority of your games.

Unlucky in what sense? Were there plenty of decisions going against us? No. A lot of things which you said would go for Zimbabwe too because they tend to throw a lot of matches in their control. As for WC, same could be said about Bangladesh too who had momentum before their match against SL but it got rained off.

Yes. I think with Amir joining the team, he rubbed it off his his bad luck to the team, and hence these results. Now that Amir has retired, Pakistan may get that luck again, maybe after 5-10 years. If Amir were still in the squad, Pakistan would have been forever cursed.

Thank you Amir!

When was the last time Pakistan chased a target in Test cricket? Last time I remember Pakistan failed to chase 150 odd in the fortress against the same opposition.

They won against Sri Lanka with series on line when they chased down some 400 odd runs and won the series as well.

Yeah they just win the match ... :bhajji

I still remember they almost chased down 500+ in Australia thanks to Asad Shafiq playing one for the ages.

Pakistan is a tough and unpredictable team which even with its best players gone can drag a one sided test against a top tier NZ side to last 4 overs that too in NZ home ground. Opposition bowling attack's top 3 bowlers have about 850 Test wickets to their names.

Darkest decade of Pakistan cricket has ended. Like the country, cricket infra structure is getting better. Pakistan as a cricketing nation will bounce back in 2020s.

World record chase against Sri Lanka.

OP knows his Cricket.

Best chasers?

They get close the then fall short. That's not the best chasers.

SA once drew a test in J'Burg vs India I remember while chasing a huge total. They almost got close to winning the game. Ashwin served a lot of pies.

Bangladesh finished 8th in the tournament and didn't bear any of the semi finalists. Pakistan won against Eng and NZL. How can you even compare the performance of both sides?

It was stupid to not go for a win in that test after coming so close to winning it. Fear of losing did not allow going for a win despite having wickets.

I did not like that play.

If you have seen the number of 4th innings collapses Pakistan has had. I think there was a time when we the worst batting side to bat in the 4th innings, and this trend still stands.

Pakistan's batting average is better than India's in SENA conditions in last 5 years.

But their bowling average is 3rd worst just above BD and WI.

Unbelievably shambolic bowling performances by Pak in SENA over the past 5 years.

We aren't good enough. Some are willing to admit but some will make excuses like this. Until a majority and PCB admit we aren't good enough and make necessary changes, we will be an average team.

Considering they have won 4 out of the 4 tosses on the tour so far, including the significant advantage of bowling first when the pitch was at its freshest and greenest on morning Day 1.... No, they are not the most unlucky team.

True. Pakistans batting has held up in SENA very well. I know Pakistani fans will get upset but fact is our bowlers have comfortably outbowled whatever pacers Pakistan have come up with in recent times.

Nothing unlucky about the defeat to New Zealand.

It was down to some very poor batting in both innings and some very lacklustre bowling and fielding especially in New Zealand's first innings.

:)) it's not like as expected to win the 1st test v NEw Zealand. So the salt ain't getting to any wounds :))

Still I'm glad for Alam, the dude deserved that 100 more than anyone.

Who remembers we almost pulled off a record chase at the Gabba?
