So Day 2 was a complete washout - Pakistan's job a little more difficult now but they have to press on.

Rizwan and Faheem to see Pakistan through the first session; Then with Fawad Alam still to bat, Pakistan could well achieve the 300-350 total that Babar Azam mentioned.

Faheem and Rizwan will have to start batting quickly.

You have Nauman and Hasan Ali down the order who can come in and slog the ball around provided it isn't still swinging wildly.

I'd put my cards on Faheem Ashraf, I see this as a great opportunity for him to bat freely and express himself with the bat.

If he can negotiate the new ball alongside Rizwan, I'd actually consider sending him up the order.

The entirety of day two of the second Test between West Indies and Pakistan was washed out by frustrating intermittent showers and a wet outfield.

Set to resume their day at 212/4, Pakistan had high hopes of posting a significant first innings total to put the pressure on West Indies as they chased a series levelling victory. Instead, the tourists finished the day where they had started it.

An early morning shower delayed the start of play, eventually forcing an early lunch to be called. Teasingly, the sun then appeared only for the rain to return before the next inspection. That proved to be the pattern of the day, with officials eventually calling stumps just after 4pm local time.

Play will commence half an hour earlier on Sunday, with 98 overs scheduled.

West Indies lead the series 1-0 heading into the campaign's final three days.

Pakistan will rue the way they bowled and set fields to Roach and Seales in the last game. And of course the dropped chances too. There was no way Pakistan should have lost that game after Da Silva got out.

Pretty similar to what happened in England last year where they let Butler and Woakes cakewalk to a win from an improbable position and ended up losing the series on the back of that. Points to the obvious lack of killer instinct in the team especially the bowling attack.

Absolutely. Skills aside, the ruthless attitude which is required has been missing for sometime. Intensity doesn’t remain consistent throughout the match or even the innings of the opposition or their own which at this level is always going to cost you and Pak have lost many matches from good positions due to this in last quite a few years.

Ideally Pak should bat today as long as they can at around 3 RPO and get the total around 350-400+. If weather permits then along with a session or so today and in the next couple of days should try to get WI out twice, by adding a few runs in the 2nd innings if required. Thats the only way to get a result unless WI batting collapses big time atleast in one innings.

Yeah reminds me of the Indian team from 2014-18, where we threw away golden opportunity after golden opportunity to win test matches in SENA after failing to seize key moments.

Some patches of the ground are still wet. Delay in start of third days play. Umpire will inspect the field at 9:40 am (local time).

Poor equipment and drainage infrastructure in Kingston stadium by the looks of it. Surely one day is more than enough to work on a patch and get it sorted. There should be a minimum infrastructure and equipment requirements for stadiums holding international matches as at the moment in varies a lot around the world.

Absolutely, in this day and age you have blistering sunshine and still there is no play as the ground is suffering from yesterday's rain. Pathetic.

What were these people doing earlier in the day? All this should’ve been addressed early in the morning. Pathetic beyond belief.

Not being silly but seems groundstaff not bothered

Windies audio saying very damp around the square so what the hell is happening here?

Update:

Outfield is still wet.
Next inspection at 10:15 am (local time).

Something similar happened to India in West Indies back in 2016. It was the shortest ever Test played, and WI were able to escape with a draw.

Here Pakistan may lose the chance to draw the series. Back then as a result of the draw India lost its #1 ranking... to Pakistan :))

They should learn from our staffs of Mirpur cricket stadium. Any amount of rain, after rain stops just takes 1 hour to start play

Caribbean people are chill, that would have been too early lol.

Then it again it could be something more sinister - delaying tactics?

Don't want to be come as a hater but I really hate games in WI now. Looks like WI cricket is run by clowns not professionals.

what a joke, ICC need to look into stuff like this. You have lost a day already and now the ground is still not ready ? Why didn't they start working 3 hours earlier on the ground ?

It's the West Indies...

A excerpt from a match report from the 2016 Port of Spain Test.

The farce in Port of Spain ended in bright sunshine with no play possible, just like the earlier three days. Called off at 9.30am on the fifth day, this was the third-shortest non-abandoned Test ever... the ground staff was economical with covering the ground when it rained, leaving the bowlers' run-up exposed. There was no super sopper available either. As a result the field didn't recover from the rain on day one, and only 22 overs - all in the first session of the Test - were bowled.

It's not your private business that you can decide when to wake up and when to arrive. Pathetic stuff from the WI cricket.

This is just playing into the favour of the opposition. Honestly disgusted with this, it’s roasting out there since morning, they should’ve began around 08:30 making sure it’s all clear.

Pathetic to say the least, outraged by this so I am.

It's annoying. But they don't have super Soppers. Those would have made the job a lot easier rather than using buckets and towels.

One thing that should be remembered is that earlier tours of the WI used to start in the first few months of the year.

Due to other events (like the IPL) the WI series have been pushed back, into their rainy season. But they don't seem to have made their best effort either.

Are groundsmen not getting paid enough? WI should not get any games from here on unless they fix their incompetency.

I think any little hope we would have of making cut for WTC final is over if this test end in draw, anyways this pathetic team deserve no better.

So some good news- finally!

Day 3 of the 2nd Test between West Indies and Pakistan will start at 11:am (local) - the delay in start due to wet outfield

Don’t remind me of the 2016 test. I travelled to Trinidad to watch day 2-5 but didn’t get to see a single ball being bowled despite not a drop of rain. Only consolation was chatting with players and management from both teams for rest of the duration. The ground staff really did a poor job.

They will probably take lunch at 11:01am in the glorious tradition of test cricket. Then come out, bowl 5 overs in 45 minutes before it rains again.

Here are the revised playing conditions - first session: 11:00 - 13:00, second session: 13:40 - 15:40, third session: 16:00 - 17:30. 83 overs to be bowled in the day and we can add an extra half hour.

Why not just bowl from one end only until its fully dry.

This is such silly nonsense and its comical how old school cricket is in its way.

The same poor drainage of Caribbean grounds that we once benefitted from to get to number 1 in the ICC Test Rankings now coming back to haunt us :mv

Poor advertisement of test cricket and cricket as a whole.

How did this patch get so wet? Is this part not suppose to be covered? Groundstaff messed it up

This is beyond ridiclious. This venue should never be allowed to host any games in future. The ground staff had the whole day to sort this out.

Good idea. Very good idea. But invain . They won't listen.
I haven't seen such a poor , unskilled ground staffs. They should hire our Mirpur groundsman as coaches. They always do amazing staffs to get the game going. Latest example, T20 series against Australia.

What a farce. This ground shouldn't be hosting international matches really.

Not that they were gonna get many ICC tournaments anyways since the big 3 but, this just shows how with the current ground facilities in place for rain it wont be a good idea anyways unless the infrastructure is improved.

West Indies have not made the investment needed on ground infrastructure like drainage to deal with their tropical climate.

It’s totally unacceptable that on such a hot day they can’t get the ground dry ready to start play.

It makes Test cricket a total joke.

ICC should force all countries (if they had any power) to make it mandatory to have the equipment at their disposal especially those countries that face tropical/wet climates on a regular basis.

It should have never been this wet. The bowling run up area from both sides is covered. The groundstaff messed it up

This match should be forfeited to Pak, WI staff have took the mickie.

Pathetic stuff really pathetic, a reserve day for this mockery should be given.

At this rate, Pakistan will reach 400 on Day 5 First session.

This whole tour has been a waste of time....with the entire T20 series being washed out and it looks like this test will meet a similar fate

WI are in no hurry to resume the play. They can continue to complain about the Wet area and halt the play. As more time gets wasted, WI get more and more more closer to a series victory against Pakistan.

One of the worst tours I have watched in recent times due to things not related to cricket rather poor infrastructure. Give the series to WI 1-0 and end this farce of a series like the T20 one which was also not only impacted by rain but post rain outfield as well. Poor stuff from WICB as well as ICC for not having any minimum standards in place for an international venues.

It would have been better if our players had stayed at home and played in the Kashmir Premier League. This tour has been a big waste of everyone's bloody time. We shouldn't tour West Indies again in the near future. Also, ICC need to fine WICB for arranging a series in their rainy season and their **** poor stadium facilities.

Umpires told Misbah , the Windies want that patch in perfect condition and it will take a long time. Sigh

Just hand the match to West Indies.

That way it will embarrass their board and who knows might trigger them to make their ground ready next time for wet weather.

Just ridiculous.

WI killed Pakistan's hopes for the WC19 playoffs in Pakistan's very first match of the tournament, and now they seem to have done the same for the Test Championship.

Is the windies the worst place for cricket? Bright day and yet they can't get the outfield dry. This is not the first time either. Poor groundsmen, poor construction, poor organisation.

There were no plays offs in the 2019 wc. There were semi finals.

Plus we beat Pakistan handily too and that did the real damage.

Pakistan wasn't expected to beat top teams. So losing to WI by such a huge margin really ended the hopes for semis.

Cricket is one of the most poorly run sports on the planet.

One drop of rain and they're off. Light is less than 100% and they're off. No rain with a damp spot and they're off.

It's like they're trying to find excuses not to play half the time. Rainstorms can't be avoided but a lot of matches are lost simply because the umpires are following rules from another century.

For Tests, I think all matches should have a reserve day. Any overs lost up to a maximum of 90 are played on that reserve day. That has to be a starting point.

Play to resume at 1 pm (Jamaica time) / 11 pm (PST), so in another 10 minutes.

Hope there are no more delays.

It should be a draw. 8 more sessions to go.

Could still get this, need to push for that big total to give ourselves the best chance. Important thing is to stay composed, focussed and not give it away due to a perception of lacking time.

Agreed, reserve days are a must!

But the ICC must also set a standard for test venues. If they do not have the ability and staff to drain to a certain standard they should be disqualified.

65 overs scheduled in the day's play today, not sure they will manage that with bad light/additional stoppages in case Holder is unhappy with the bowlers' run-up area.

Pak will not get more than 350 with the weak tail to come after Fawad. Hopeis on Nauman to be able to give some support.
