Pakistan has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate against Sri Lanka during its last Group B fixture in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 in Cardiff on Monday.

Chris Broad of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees imposed the fine after Sarfraz Ahmed’s side was ruled to be one over short of its target when time allowances were taken into consideration.

In accordance with Article 2.5.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minor over-rate offences, players are fined 10 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount.

As such, Sarfraz has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee, while his players have received 10 per cent fines. Sarfraz pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

If there is a second minor over-rate offence committed by Pakistan during the event with Sarfraz as captain, he will be suspended for one match.

The charge was laid by on-field umpires Bruce Oxenford and Marais Erasmus, third umpire Chris Gaffaney and fourth umpire Ian Gould.

Phewww! Just 1 over short? I thought it would have been worse. Thankfully sarafaraz wasnt banned.

Time for professor to step up and be the offical captain next game so we can avoid the ban

i thought if u bowl the team out, then there is no discussion on time taken to bowl ur overs... has tht rule been changed?

Thankfully no ban. Imagine Pakistan beats England but are again behind in the over-rate and Saifi ends up getting banned only for Azhar/Hafeez to captain against India/Bangladesh.

Hafeez isn't a bad captain

Who cares. ICC just wants to make headlines at times. 1 minute. Spare me the hysteria.

I think it was about 3 overs, than 1. We finished our innings at about 1415 which is 15 monutes past the cut off time.

Either way new SL batsmen had to come out, so I don't understand why no leeway was given

Only in your dreams. England are not going to be this pathetic in the field.

Pressure can do weird things. I hope the PCT doesn't have your garbage mentality and haven't accepted defeat already.

Bachat ho gaey

Was expecting us to be short by more than just a single over.

You have 3.5 hours to bowl. Time can only be taken into consideration for injuries, issues with the equipment etc.

Wides and no balls don't help. Pakistan need to cut out the extras to save Safraz some money.
