If we look at history of Pakistan cricket.,

There are 4 major limited over trophies they have won

1) Nehru Cup 1989 ( Aussie group state exit)
2) 1992 World Cup ( Aussie group stage exit)
3) 2009 T20 World cup ( Aussie group stage exit)
4) 2017 ICC Champions trophy ( Aussie group exit)

On all 4 occasions Australia failed to reach Semi finals.

Therefore from now on the template is very simple, one way or another Australia’s elimination helps Pakistan as we are their “ real boggey” team. So any ICC tournament we need to keep an eye on Aussie elimination at the earliest.

Pakistan defeating india in 2004 quarter finals icc champions trophy & 2017 final of icc champions trophy reduced our tag as their “boggey team” but we still are their boggey team too ( with lesser extent in comparison to Australia )

Thankyou Kane Williamson for handing out 89 run defeat to Aaron Finch, kiwiz ultimately knocked Australia out & helped Pakistan.

I am sure had Aussies played against us in Sydney, Pakistan would have choked. Aussies know how to make Pakistan choke. Indians used to know it very well up to 2016 ( Eden Gardens Calcutta )

From then onwards there is some degree of improvement.

Aus are just a bad match up for Pakistan, just like Pakistan are a bad match up for us and us for India.

There is not a shred of doubt in my mind that had it been Australia today rather than New Zealand then we would have somehow shot ourselves mentally.

Australia has Pakistan's number in tournaments and I don't see ourselves defeating them in a knockout crunch game.

Although I have hope with this crop of Pakistani cricketers the way they have got the Indian monkey off their back its a matter of time before they break this Australian dominance as well.

If we can get over the Australia hoodoo we will win a lot more trophies. But it seems tougher than getting over the Indian one.

we should stop paying so much attention to what happened since 1947. its time to move on.
> adopt modern approach
> plan and execute plans according to oppositions on the day
> be as professional and mentally strong in build-up from under 19, a team, domestic, psl to international
> do not think too much about who you are playing, what happened in 92, etc, etc.
> play your best game and focus on result

It’s about to hope again. Pakistan to March ahead riding over Aussies

does anyone know Pakistan and Australias head to head World Cup record. I feel like they knock us out all the time

We beat them in the last WC in India, in 99 it we won group stage, lost final, believe we beat them in 92 as well.

Pakistan was the one that kicked them out of the 92 World Cup

Those are not the only major PDI trophies we have won. You need to do your homework.

Austral Asia Cup should come back.

Australia is not exiting. Australia can compensate for their loss to SA by beating the crap out of Nederlands. They are even.

Australia have lost to heavyweights S.A. and India. Assuming they defeat SL , Bangladesh, NL then they just need to beat 2 out either Pakistan NZ ,ENG

Teams that rely on other teams elimination likely end up not winning much

Focus on winning . Focus on winning well and fair .

With lack of good spinner , lack of power hitters and lack of any real modern day odi batsman , pak cannot expect to win World Cup based on the sweat and toil of shaheen and Harris - only two world class players in pak team currently ( sorry , Babar is at best an 80s style manjrekar kind of player - no fourth gear , plays for his 50 and teams likelihood of winning will be killed by his momentum killing knocks )

LOL about posters wishing for Australia's exit. Australia has good chance to be in top 4 end of this week if they win against Pak. If Eng loses to SA on Saturday and Wins against NZ, both very much possible, Aus willl be very good position. Even if Enla d wins their match, as long as Australia wins against Pak they will have same points and at 5. They also will have three matches against tournament minnows and woild have already played against three top teams. They are in reasonably good shape. It's Pakistan which has to worry. Thye will play their last two games against NZ in BLR and England. They will hardly be able to make up NRR even if the win those two matches.

I would say Babar, although in 90s mold, is a bigger match winner than Haris Rauf.

A country which has produced saeed anwar , aamir sohail definitely has better batters than Babar . Seems like baber and his fans are happy in his mediocrity .

Rizwan is perhaps ur best odi batter - at least seems to try to move scoreboard.

You are creating a culture of mediocrity by praising such batsmen .

Until 3-4 years ago , india was falling into such trap too - sharma is now going after strike rate rather than 200 - what strikes me as unacceptable is this aspect of Babar batting . He needs to up the ante . Hit sixes . Use his feet . Learn to sweep .

Others will emulate him to keep their spot in team and as a result , pak will always be reliant on some mercurial spell - champions trophy was a good example . U won it in 2017 but likely damaged your whole decade . The template to win modern games - odi , t20 and tests is batting . High strike rate / scoring rates is the way most teams win . Even in tests , u guys lost to England at home I believe in flat pitches as their scoring rate was super high.

Pant , kishan , gill , sky and all modern indian batsmen have inculcated that attitude. Even kohli got out trying to play an ugly pull but his intent was visible . Pak batsmen need that intent. U may want Afridi as ur coach - at least lack of intent will not be an issue . For all his limitations , he was probably the most modern t20 / odi player played for pak last 20 years .

You are complaining about mediocrity and in the same breath talking about aamer Sohail as if he was a huge attacking batsman. He was embodiment of mediocrity and Babar is better than him

If Australia get knocked out early, it is always good for all teams (including Pakistan).

Aussies generally knock Pakistan out. A bit like how Germany used to knock Argentina out.

Sohail , Anwar played at high strike rate . Never saw any sellfish streak in them . Your team of 90 s and 2000 had non selfish batters . Now u have stat paddlers .
