Pakistan Shaheens (306/7) defeat Sri Lanka A (198) convincingly by 108 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series

Mohammad Huraira-led Pakistan Shaheens will take on Sri Lanka ‘A’ in the three-match 50-over series from 25 November onwards after Shaheens won the two-match four-day series 1-0.

The first one-dayer will be played on Monday at the Islamabad Club while the second and third match will take place on 27 and 29 November, respectively at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

From the Shaheens red-ball squad, five players, including skipper Huraira, Abdul Faseeh, Haider Ali, Hussain Talat and Rohail Nazir have been joined by Abdul Samad, Maaz Sadaqat, Mehran Mumtaz, Mohammad Haris, Mohammad Imran Jnr, Muhammad Imran Randhawa Sharoon Siraj, Sirajuddin and Ubaid Shah for the 50-over series.

Among the nine players who have joined the squad for the one-dayers, all-rounder Imran Randhawa and pacer Ubaid, who comes fresh off an 11-wicket match haul in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, have received their maiden call-ups to the Shaheens team.

In 2024, Pakistan Shaheens have played five 50-over games of which they won the two in Darwin against Bangladesh ‘A’ and Northern Territory in August while the three match home series against Bangladesh ‘A’ ended 1-0 after two matches were washed out at the Islamabad Club in August as well.

Sri Lanka ‘A’ will be led by Sri Lanka international Nuwanidu Fernando while Lahiru Udara, Sahan Arachchige, Dushan Hemantha, Kavindu Nadeeshan, Eshan Malinga, Dilshan Madushanka and Nipun Ransika have joined the squad for the 50-over matches.

First ODI: Pakistan Shaheens beat Sri Lanka A by 108 runs.

Hyder Ali's Century Abdul Samad's half century.

Islamabad 25 November. Pakistan Shaheens won the first ODI against Sri Lanka A by 108 runs thanks to Hyder Ali's brilliant century.

With this, he took a one-nil lead in the three-match series.

In the match played at Islamabad Club Islamabad on Monday, Sri Lanka A captain Nova Nendo Fernando won the toss and gave Pakistan Shaheens batting first, who took 7 wickets in the allotted 50 overs.

Pakistan Shaheens shine against Sri Lanka 'A' in the first 50-over match at the Islamabad Club. Haider Ali scored a century, while Abdul Samad contributed 56 runs, bringing the team to an impressive 306 for seven in their allotted 50 overs. Sharoon Siraj then claimed three wickets for 21 runs, claiming three wickets for the team.

Haider Ali faced 94 balls, striking eight fours and six sixes. He reached his half-century off 59 deliveries with two boundaries and three sixes, before accelerating to reach his century off 90 balls with seven fours and six sixes. He added 120 runs from 119 balls for the fourth wicket with Abdul Samad, rescuing Pakistan Shaheens from a shaky position at 94 for three after being put into bat.

The hosts scored 46 runs in the first PowerPlay and capitalized on the fourth-wicket stand to accelerate late in the innings. They added 85 runs in the final 10 overs, with Mohammad Haris hitting an unbeaten 36 off 25 balls and Muhammad Imran chipping in with a quickfire 15 off 10 balls.

In response, Sri Lanka 'A' struggled to build partnerships, slumping to 61 for four and later to 136 for seven before being bowled out. Sharoon shone with the ball, returning figures of 4.4-0-21-3, while Mohammad Imran Junior picked up two for 30. Sirajuddin, Muhammad Imran, Ubaid Shah, and Mehran Mumtaz each claimed one wicket to complete the comprehensive victory.
 
It’s good to have more teams in the Quaid Trophy at least this way we will unearth new players who can improve in future.

That game was 2 years ago we do not have a lot of talent so we have to give opportunities to players with potential
He was sitting duck against India's college team in recently concluded emerging Asia cup.
