KABUL: US Senator John McCain has issued a stern warning to Pakistan's civilian and military leaders to act against the Haqqani Network if Islamabad intends to remain a close ally of Washington. Senator McCain's statement shows that the Trump administration is considering to impose sanctions on Pakistan if Islamabad continues to support Haqqani Network and other terror groups.

Senator McCain, who was in Islamabad recently before flying over to Kabul, said "We have made it very clear that we expect Pakistan will cooperate with us, particularly against the Haqqani network and against terrorist organisations."

"If they don't change their behaviour, maybe we should change our behaviour towards Pakistan as a nation,"he said at a news briefing on Tuesday in Kabul.
According to some Pakistani sources, McCain made the statement even though his delegation was briefed by top military officialsthat Pakistan had severed its links with members of the Haqqani Network. They added that if any militants were found inside Pakistan they would be arrested and prosecuted.

Moreover, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has recently warned Pakistan for providing safe havens to terror groups orchestrating attacks in other countries. Stoltenberg said "It is absolutely unacceptable that a country provides sanctuary to terrorist groups which are responsible for terrorist attacks inside another country."

The Indian media again lying to its jingoistic public. He doesn't even hint at sanctions.

I'd be amazed if Pakistan was still allies with the US if it wasn't co-operating with them on the Haqqani network. The US relationship with Pakistan seems similar to it's relationship with Saudi Arabia. They say negative stuff on the surface, but beneath the water the relationship seems to be locked in tight for a long time now. Very much to US advantage as well I would think.

lol nice joke from the Indian media. Not happening. Many of the policy wonks inw ashington dont want to go back to the 1990's. As they are accutely aware they did enourmous damage to their influence in the region due to that. They can cozy up to Modi sahib all they want but thats more for the pacific and Malacca straight area. For central asia they know they need some influence in Pakistan. Good or bad..

..Figment of the indian imagination; what a pathetic nation.

*Trump's voice*
"Don't they have anything better to do?!"

These sanctions never come. America needs Pakistan in Afghanistan. The headline should start with "India hopes", this John McCain thinks Pakistan neighbours Iraq:maqsood Dismiss the news if the source is an Indian newspaper as is the case here.

I think it's fair to say that the United States are the worst "ally" to have.

During the Cold War years India was allied to the Soviet Union and that relationship was more or less one of close cooperation with no strings attached, whereas Pakistan drifted to the United States and its harmful effects are still being felt to this day.

The US foreign policy is one with heavy baggage. Not worth it.

Warning number 189 to Pakistan from US regarding Haqqani network

Tell me something new even if the report is right nothing is going to happen just like past so indian media can continue their dreaming process just like dropping mother of all bombs on Pak :))

Lol at the catchy news title while the report says:

"Senator McCain's statement shows that the Trump administration is considering to impose sanctions"
