Pakistan should have picked more left-handed batsmen to play spin for the T20 World Cup 2021

Afg have Rashid Khan and Qais Ahmed.

Ind have Jadeja, Axar and Chahar.

NZ have Santner, Sodhi and Astle.

Bangladesh could be added to the group, so even more spinners to deal with turning it away from the right hand batsmen.

The decision to select asif ali and azam khan ahead of Zaman and Sharjeel looks even more silly.

The only other option outside of Khusdil Shah is Imad Wasim as a leftie, but he isn't reliable.

Anyone else see the tactical blunder here by the selectors?

Pak have struggled against SLA and there aren't any left handed batsmen to tackle them either in the squad (except khusdil).

Sharjeel and Fakhar are not good against spin. Wouldn't have mattered

It's a good point. Fakhar should absolutely be there irrespective but your point makes it feel even more neccessary.

Going on this perhaps it might have made sense taking a punt on Haris Sohail too rather than any of the 3 useless batsmen we did pick.

The biggest tactical blunder is lack of spinners in Pak squad, pitches in WC will be spin friendly and Pakistan is going with pacers.

This was our best chance of winning a major trophy since 2017, and what does the PCB do? Brings in players who can’t play spin in the middle overs and drop their best player of spin.🤦🏻*♂️

I’m not mentally prepared to watch the likes of Asif Ali, Khushdil Shah and Azam Khan play spin.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we lose every single game in the WT20,

Pakistan is a mediocre side, and now that we’ve dropped our best players we’re on par with Scotland and Ireland.

I struggle to see Pakistan posting 130+ in any of their games.

Pakistan are HEAVILY reliant on Rizwan, Babar and Hafeez, and the fact that there’s no competition for places if one of these players fails is a joke.

We were rescued by Malik in Asia cup vs Afghanistan.

We were rescued by Imad Wasim in WC19 vs Afghanistan.

But this time I see the Afghans humiliating us in the WT20.

Mohammad Nabi will bag a 5fer vs Pakistan.

Fakhar in the middle experiment was abandoned too early. He has good reach and can easily go down the ground to hit out legspinners and sla. If they keep a flexible batting lineup with numbers 3-6 being trained for specific roles who are sent in to bat considering the match-ups in front. If there is a sla or legspinner in action, would love to see Fakhar come in and try to smack a few.

Sharjeel maybe, but definitely not Zaman!

When everyone was being made to look silly by Shamsi, Zaman was the only one taking him on and doing it successfully.

Also, against that leggie during the Eng series.

Zaman would have definitely been useful against a plethora of the left armers and leggies.

We don't have many though. Sharjeel isn't setting the world on fire so no point selecting him. Don't think we have many decent lefties playing in circuit. We still have fakhar, khushdil and imad in our lineup though.

Fakhar wasn't selected......

Fakhar wasn't selected......

If reports are to be believed, his inclusion is certain considering 10th of Oct is the deadline before any change in the squad can be made without ICC's approval. We have wayyy too manyy fast bowlers in the squad so he is expected to replace one of Hasnain or Rauf.

Fakhar will be in the world cup squad without his contribution Pakistan can not win against India. The decision is already approved somewhere in the 7th sky.

Never mind left hand or right hand, you basically needed players who can play spin well. Hafeez, Sarfaraz & Malik were the guys who had the right technique to counter spin.

Absolutely.

Hafeez and Malik are way past it now, hence struggle against spin now as well.

Sarfraz definitely should have been selected, along with Ifthikhar who can play spin well.

But leaving out Zaman is a blunder at this stage.

Haris Sohail the one who is injured or not fit enough?

Malik struggles against spin ?
