Karachi: Pakistan and Sri Lanka have agreed to play a day and night Test match with pink ball in Dubai in the upcoming series between the two countries.

This will be Pakistan's second day and night Test in Dubai as last year also they had played against the West Indies and won the encounter.

"The two cricket boards are still finalising the itinerary for the series of two Tests, five ODIs and three T20 matches. The Sri Lankans have requested the series to start earlier in late September instead of early October," a source in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) told PTI.

He said the Sri Lankans are scheduled to tour India after the Pakistan series and that is why they wanted the series in UAE to start in late September.

The source said that itinerary for the series with Sri Lanka would be announced this week.

"We had asked them to play a day and night Test and they have agreed because we both feel it is a good attempt to bring crowds to Test matches and add more colour to the format," he said.

Pakistan had also played a day and night Test match on its last tour to Australia last winter in Brisbane.

The source said that although the Sri Lankans had turned down a request to play two T20 matches of the series in Lahore but the PCB had still not given up hope.

"We are still talking to them and trying to convince them how important it is for Pakistan cricket to host some international matches at home," he added.

Top Test teams stopped touring Pakistan since March, 2009 when militants attacked the Sri Lankan team in Lahore.

this is good news as a Pak cricket fan i hope PCB accept the request and agree to play series in late

september rather than ocotber which was too far

Thank god PCB have asked for a 2 Test series because clearly Pakistan play too much Test cricket as it is already....

MMHS the legendary PCB strike again another meaningless 2 test series, why even bother with that why not have a 7 ODIs and 5 t20s series.

What a joke! Just 2 test matches with next test match scheduled for May 2018 in England. Even Ireland and Afg might go onto play more during this period.

You mean 7 T20 & 5 OD?

playing test cricket with sri lanka is a torture

even 2 matches are too much

Should have stuck to 3 tests. Also if they are going to play a day/night test they should ensure the pitch has something in it for the bowlers. The day/night test versus the West Indies last year hardly had anything in it for the bowlers.

They will be inviting Sri Lanka for a 3 test series in Pakistan instead. Do keep up...

Exciting news, will bring a lot of fans and hopefully will be as good an encounter as the test match between Pakistan and West Indies last year

On_the_up chances of SL actually agreeing to tour Pakistan is nil.

It was a joke. Reduce the number of matches in the tours teams are making and then invite them on tours they aren't going to agree to. Seems to be the trend with PCB at the moment.

dont expect any crowd in dubai.sharjah is the only ground in UAE where we can expect good crowd

Seems some reports of Pak v SL T20 games in Pakistan also ....

Sri Lanka have always been out true friends. Pakistanis appreciate their courage and offer to resume international Cricket in Pak. Thank you.

Dubai set to host Pakistan’s day-night Test

Dubai: International cricket will commence again in the UAE from September end with Pakistan-Sri Lanka series set to be held in the three international venues here. The series will comprise two Tests, five One-day Internationals and three Twenty20 matches.

The highlight of the tour will be a day-night Test match between the two countries at the Dubai International stadium, even as though the dates of the series are still being finalised. Informed sources say that the series will commence with the first Test match to be held in Abu Dhabi and the second one being a day-night event.

This will be Pakistan’s second day-night Test match as they had played against the West Indies at the same venue last year. The match will be played with the pink ball.

It is likely that out of the five One-day matches, two will be held at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, which always attracts a huge turnout. Abu Dhabi will host two One-dayers with Dubai to host one match.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), however, is hoping that Sri Lanka plays the three T20 matches of the series in Pakistan itself, subject to security clearance. This can happen only if the World XI versus Pakistan T20 series is successfully staged in Pakistan. This series which has been named Independence Cup is scheduled to be held on September 12, 13 and 15 at the Gadaffi stadium while ticket sales for these matches have already commenced. The World XI, captained by South Africa’s Faf du Plessis, is made up of 14 players from seven countries.

The PCB wants international cricket to return to Pakistan through Twenty20 matches and hence are hoping that the Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka and a Twenty20 series against West Indies in November are held in their country. If Sri Lanka play in Pakistan, it will be a big boost for PCB as militants had targeted the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore in 2009, killing eight people. For the last eight years, Pakistan has been staging their international matches in the UAE including two editions of the Pakistan Super League Twenty20 (PSL).

The Pakistan-Sri Lanka series is likely to commence from September 26.

ICC should make a rule that any test series should of 3 tests.

2 Tests.

It's not like we need to bed in two new middle-order batsmen, find an opening partner for Azhar or a second spinner or anything.

Should have stuck to 3 tests. PCB are the worst at organising series. Even WICB and SLCB can get 3 test match series versus England, India, and Australia.
