Pakistan tour of Zimbabwe 2018

464 by Faf I think

Rohit Sharma scores 491 runs and George Bailey scored 478 runs when Australia toured India in 2013.

Strictly speaking - it was.a 7 game series but two of the games were abandoned :)

True Babar will love paying against Zimbabwe for obvious reasons but stat padding against srilanka doesn't count.

Pakistan still not playing enough ODIs against competitive sides. Why not plan a 2 or even 3 odi tour by Australia to UAE?

Pakistan should really start as favorites for the tri-series.

Babar Azam Zimbabwean 5 hundreds!!! Fakhar Zaman 200?? Is it possibly guys?

This reminds me we haven't played the Saffers in a LONG while.... they stopped inviting us after we beat them in 2013. It wouldn't hurt for us to go to SA for a short 3 match ODI series after this series, while we are in the continent.

We got Asia Cup, Series with NZ, and a series with AUS. So no chance for a SA tour this year.

This year Bobby has:

5 ODIs vs Zimbabwe
Asia Cup in UAE
5 ODIs vs NZ in UAE
5 ODIs vs Australia B in UAE

Fully expecting him to be #1 ODI batsman by the end of the year

It's a myth that UAE is good for batting, he would have done better if games were in Pakistan.

Cricket Australia National Selector Trevor Hohns said: “We have selected a 15-player squad as we push forward in our preparations for the ICC Cricket World Cup in England in 2019.

“Obviously, these are the conditions we will face during the tournament so now is a perfect chance to give these players an opportunity to press their case for selection.”

The Cricket Australia Board has endorsed Test Captain Tim Paine as One-Day captain for this series, with Victorian Aaron Finch to act as his vice-captain.

“Tim is a strong leader and will Captain the side for this series, supported by Aaron.

“A decision on a permanent one-day captain will be made in due course,” said Hohns.

West Australian D’Arcy Short has been named in the One-Day squad for the first time.

Hohns said: “D’Arcy is relatively new to one-day cricket but impressed us with his form in T20 cricket last season.

“He brings an all-round package to the side, with strong fielding and bowling skills and we believe he will combine very well with Aaron at the top of the order.”

New South Wales’ Nathan Lyon returns to the one-day side, having last played for Australia against Sri Lanka in Colombo in 2016.

“Nathan is our number one off-spinner and has excelled with the red ball, however he is not new to white ball cricket and deserves his chance to push for World Cup selection.

“England potentially have a number of left-handers in their side and we look forward to seeing what he can produce with the white-ball in English conditions.”

South Australia’s Alex Carey has been included in the side having debuted for Australia against England earlier this year.

“Alex is a very smart one-day player who can also bat anywhere in the order.

“With Tim in the side Alex will be the back-up wicket-keeper, but we believe his game is strong enough to play as a batter only.”

Test pacemen Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins were unavailable for selection due to injury.

Cricket Australia Bupa Support Staff Physiotherapist David Beakley said: “Mitchell is going to undertake a pro-longed rehabilitation period for his tibial bone stress injury and we are aiming for a return to play for the Pakistan Test Series in the UAE.

“Pat is still recovering from a lumbar bone stress injury, the good news is that it has not progressed to a fracture but he still requires a period of rehabilitation with an aim for him to return to play for the Pakistan Test series along with Starc.”

The NSP have also named a 14-player T20 International squad for one game against England and the Qantas Tour of Zimbabwe following the English Tour.

The Cricket Australia Board has endorsed Aaron Finch as Captain for this series, with Alex Carey to act as his vice-Captain for this T20 International tour.

Queensland’s Jack Wildermuth and Mitchell Swepson are named in side for the first time.

National T20 Selector Mark Waugh said: “The NSP hold Jack in high regard as young player on the rise.

“He has shown excellent all-round skills at the first-class level, particularly with the ball in the Big Bash.

“We look forward to seeing what he can produce at the international level.

“Mitchell provides the Captain with good variety and wicket-taking options.

“He competes very well and deserves his chance at this level,” said Waugh.

Nic Maddinson returns to the T20I side having last played for Australia against South Africa in Sydney in 2014.

“Nic has been selected off the back of a very good Big Bash season.

“He is a very talented player and with his batting skills has the ability to be very dangerous in this format.”

South Australia’s Adam Zampa has been omitted from the one-day and T20I squads.

Hohns said: “Adam hasn’t performed to the level we would have liked in recent times and we see this as a good opportunity for other spinning options to press their case ahead of the Cricket World Cup.”

There's quite a high chance either

a) this will be cancelled
b) Zimbabwe will be made pick a reserve team

Players havent been paid in months, many skipping domestic cricket for unexplained reasons and so on.

Pakistan cricketers Yasir Shah, Babar Azam to undergo fitness test ahead of Zimbabwe tour

KARACHI: Senior leg-spinner Yasir Shah will undergo fitness test this weekend in Lahore ahead of the tour to Zimbabwe, starting June 28.

Some apprehensions, though, still remain whether the tour will take place. The ongoing dispute on salary and match fee issue between the Zimbabwe Cricket Union (ZCU) and players doesn't affect the Pakistan Cricket Board with their preparations and selection procedure.

A fitness test will be commencing on June 23 in Lahore and the team would be leaving for Harare on the June 28, a Board official said.

Head coach, Mickey Arthur and the team physiotherapist will be supervising the fitness test for Yasir (all-rounder), Emmad Wasim, pacer Rumman Raees and Babar Azam.

The Test tour of Ireland and England were missed by Yasir owing to a hip injury while Babar suffered a fracture in his arm while batting in the first Test at Lord's last month.

Thereby, the team selectors are very much concerned over the fitness of Yasir Shah and Babar Azam in particular as they are the key players in the Test and ODI formats.

Even Emmad and Rumman have been on the injury list for a few months now. The upcoming Asia Cup and Test series against Australia and New Zealand lined up around the corner, causing dilemma for the selectors.

Chief selector, Inzamam and Arthur will also sit down with Board officials in the coming weekend to finalise the list of players who will be given fresh central contracts from July 1.

According to details, they are recommending the board to reduce the list of players from 35 to 25 and increase their monthly salary.

Experienced all-rounder, Muhammad Hafeez, who was recently cleared to bowl again in international cricket is likely to be retained in the new list of contracts although he has been out of favour with the selectors and Arthur for a while now.

Hopefully they are just checking yasir shah fitness we don.t need him in odis or t20 unless shadab gets injured

Last paragraph boils my blood .hafeez is one lucky cricketer who seems to have very strong connection in pcb at top level

Great......... Hafeez still to be kept in the contracts list. Yasir Shah fitness is hopefully for the Aus and NZ tours and the limited overs series coming up. Just hope they give deserving players the right contracts. Hopefully no Ahmed Shehzad in category A or B, likewise for Shoaib Malik, Rahat Ali and Imad Wasim.

What no Shoaib Malik after his most recent minnow bashing performances against Scotland??

Well I don't want Malik in the team at all but I think they will retain him, so I don't want him in Category A, B or C. But that's very unlikely to happen.

So Yasir is our new T20 ad ODI all rounder. PCB always have habit to play same players in every format. In near future we will see Shafiq and Azhar in our T20 squad as well.

Taylor, Sikandar Raza, Sean Williams, Cremer, Ervine... Where are they :13:

Guess they have named the squad based on the players who have made themselves available, BT and some others have ruled out playing until the salaries and all dues are paid.

Zimbabwe omit big names for tri-series

Former captains Brendon Taylor and Graeme Cremer will not take part in next month’s T20 international tri-series against Australia and Pakistan after they were left out of Zimbabwe’s training squad announced overnight.

Along with veterans Sean Williams, Craig Ervine and Sikandar Raza – who is set to play in the concurrent Global T20 tournament in Canada against suspended Australians Steve Smith and David Warner – Taylor and Cremer were not included in Zimbabwe’s 22-man training squad for the triangular series.

It means Zimbabwe will be without five of their best players for the round-robin tournament that starts on July 1, with all matches to be played at Harare sports club.

Elton Chigumbura, veteran of more than 250 internationals, was selected having last represented Zimbabwe in November 2016.

The 32-year-old has scored two one-day international centuries and is a welcome boost to a squad lacking international experience.

Zimbabwe need as much firepower has they can get their hands on coming up against the world’s top-ranked T20 outfits.

Pakistan sit atop the official men’s T20 international rankings on 131 rating points, with Australia in second on 126 after their flawless tri-series win over England and New Zealand in February.

Pak and Aussies should send B squad for the tour. If the host nation is now willing to play their version of elite players than why should visiting nations put their A players on the field. Just a paid holiday

One respect Zimbabwe board has more power to its players than our board. They dropped top 5 of their seniors from that the team. Imagine if our players will call strike for pay rise PCB will press panic button and accept all their demands (2x-3x pay rises) with apology.

Australia can send their B or even C team. But no way PCB will dare to drop any senor or performer with promising young players unless major injuries happen. All our players are too insecure to take break and attend their injuries to fix and scare of loosing place to a young players which includes even Sarfraz, Amir, Malik etc.

What demands bro??? When did they demand pay hikes?

They have not been paid since last year.

I said for an example!!!! PCB does not have guts to drop seniors unless Mickey rebel.

The never dropped seniors, the seniors decided not to play if they are not paid, ZCB are begging to them to play in Tri-series

LAHORE: The Inzamam-ul-Haq led national selection committee is expected to announce the Pakistan squad for the upcoming tour to Zimbabwe on Friday after four key players go through a fitness test.

Pakistan will be involved in a tri-nation series along with Zimbabwe and Australia from July 1 to 8 before they take on the hosts in a five-match One-day International series from July 13 to 22.

Leg-spinner Yasir Shah, middle-order batsman Babar Azam, left-arm spin all-rounder Imad Wasim and pacer Rumman Raees all are on injury list and have been called up for fitness tests on Friday.

Yasir was facing hip injury, which forced him to skip Pakistan’s tour to England, Ireland and Scotland. Babar fractured his arm during the England tour, while Imad and Rumman are also struggling with fitness problems for the last couple of months.

Opening batsman Ahmad Shahzad, who was tested positive in a doping test conducted in an Indian lab recently, will not retain his place in the T20 squad.

However, a review board of the Pakistan Anti-doping Agency will decide Ahmad’s fate after ******tan Cricket Board’s (PCB) suggestion.

All-rounder Muhammad Hafeez is likely to get a place in the One-day side but not in the T20 squad. There are reports that the selectors may pick youngster Sahibzada Farhan in place of Ahmad.

Head coach Mickey Arthur has also reached Lahore to personally monitor the fitness test of the four players before he takes part in a consultation session with the selectors to give the team a final shape.

I read that Zimbabwe Cricket may not exist at all in the near future. Everything seems to be disintegrating beyond repair. Forget about losing test status, Zimbabwe might stop playing cricket altogether like Kenya. Sad to see.

Good to hear Sahibzada's name has been mentioned but upsetting to Hafeez's name mentioned as well. He's likely to get back into the team after the minnow bashing he and Malik are gonna do. As for Yasir and Imad being mentioned is really disheartening. Keep Yasir to Tests and select Nawaz in the team instead on Imad.

Hopefully Sahibzada Farhan is picked over Hafeez.I hope Hafeez never comes back into the Pakistan side but I have a feeling he will be back and bash Zimbabwe like no tomorrow.

Zimbabwe's president has escaped injury after an explosion at a stadium where he was addressing a rally, in what state media are describing as an assassination attempt.

Emmerson Mnangagwa has vowed that the "cowardly act" will not derail next month's historic election - the first since long-time leader Robert Mugabe stepped down.

He said the object had "exploded a few inches away from me, but it is not my time".

One of Zimbabwe's two vice presidents, Kembo Mohadi, suffered a leg injury in the blast, which happened in Bulawayo.

The country's environment minister, deputy speaker of parliament and several security personnel were also among the injured.

Footage posted online showed the president waving to the crowd as he turned to step off the podium and walked into the open-sided VIP tent, where the explosion happened seconds later.

People were seen ducking and screaming as smoke billowed through the stadium - with state television immediately cutting the broadcast.

No groups have come forward to say that they were behind the explosion so far.

Bulawayo is Zimbabwe's second-largest city and is traditionally an opposition stronghold.

The blast happened just hours after a similar attack in Ethiopia during a rally for the country's new prime minister. An attacker threw a grenade towards the stage where he was sitting - killing one person and injuring at least 83 others.

Presidential spokesman George Charamba told The Zimbabwe Herald that an investigation had been launched and said there had been "multiple attempts" on Mr Mnangagwa's life over the years.

Mr Mnangagwa later visited those who were injured in the blast at the local hospital.

Speaking hours after the explosion, the president said: "The campaign so far has been conducted in a free and peaceful environment and we will not allow this cowardly act to get in our way as we move towards elections."

The president has joked about the attempts on his life while on the campaign trail.

Mr Mnangagwa came to power in November after former ally Robert Mugabe stepped down under military pressure.

The transfer of power began when Mr Mnangagwa was sacked as Mugabe's deputy and said he had to flee the country immediately as his life was in danger.

The election on 30 July will be the first without Mr Mugabe in the southern African nation since independence in 1980.

The British Embassy tweeted: "There is no place for any form of political violence in Zimbabwe. We want to express our sympathy and concern for all those who have been injured."

The US Embassy also condemned the attack on Twitter and said "political violence in any form is unacceptable" and contrary to the progress needed to move the country forward and "take its place on the global stage".

American officials have said a credible vote is the only way international sanctions can be lifted.

THE Zimbabwe Cricket team’s interim coach Lalchand Rajput appears to be a man of few words.

The 56-year-old, who was appointed in May, conducted his first training session last Wednesday at Harare Sports Club.

Clad in his black and green Zimbabwe kit, a red floppy hat and matching shades, the former Afghanistan coach was hands on as the Chevrons prepared for next week’s T20 tri-series featuring hosts Zimbabwe, Australia and Pakistan.

“You spinners are talking too much, no talking while bowling, you talk after,” the Indian gaffer could be heard ordering his spinners during a net session.

Rajput is expected to address the media for the first time in a press conference tomorrow where the final 15 men to play in the tri-series will also be announced.

“I can confirm that we have a 22-men training squad which will be whittled down to 15 on Monday.

“The coach will also address the media for the first time on that day,” said Zimbabwe Cricket Communications and Media manager Darlington Majonga. With his note-board in hand, the Zimbabwe coach took time to talk to individual players whenever he felt the need to.

He could be seen correcting Chamu Chibhabha, who was facing spinners in one of the nets and from there he engaged in a chat with his assistants Douglas Hondo and Shepherd Makunura. Rajput also found time to talk to the net-bowlers.

“Have you guys warmed up? Please get ready to bowl,” he said with a smile.

For the better part of the session, he was standing alone concentrating on the net battles between bowlers and batsmen.

After two hours of practice, the players were dismissed after a range-hitting session where the likes of Tarisai Musakanda, Ryan Murray, Hamilton Masakadza and Malcolm Waller timed the ball very well.

Rajput ambled towards the changing rooms, arms behind and head bowed, perhaps pondering what formula will work against the Australians and Pakistanis next week.

Meanwhile, Australia and Pakistan are expected in the country this week for the tri-series

The visiting countries are expected this Thursday for the T20 series, which will be followed by a five-match ODI series between Zimbabwe and Pakistan in Bulawayo from July 13 to 22.

“It’s not every day that you have two of the best T20 sides coming to Zimbabwe, this is an opportunity to show what we’ve got as a nation,” said Majonga.

“We are ready to host them, we have been putting everything in place,” he said, The Tri-series’ first match is between the hosts Zimbabwe and Pakistan in what will be a 10th T20 meeting between them. Pakistan has won all previous meetings.

Two days later, Zimbabwe will take on the Aussies whom they have beaten in their only T20 match meeting, a five wicket triumph during the inaugural World T20 Cup in South Africa in 2007.

And after the disappointment of failing to qualify for the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, the tri-series presents the Chevrons with a chance to work their way back into the hearts of Zimbabweans.

Zimbabwe announce 17-man tri-series squad

Lalchand Rajput, Zimbabwe’s newly appointed interim head coach, is up for the challenge ahead of his first assignment, as Zimbabwe take on Australia and Pakistan in a T20I tri-series.

Speaking at the announcement of the final 17-member squad on Monday 25 June, which was trimmed from a preliminary 22-man contingent, the former India coach spoke highly of the talent in the country, and is keen on taking a patient approach towards positive results.

The 56-year-old Rajput feels the assignment is a challenge that he is familiar with. “As a coach, you like challenges and I think it’s a challenge for me, which I have done with Afghanistan and India when I was appointed the T20 coach and we won the T20 World Cup in 2017," he said. "It was a challenge with all the youngsters there.

“With Afghanistan, I was there for one-and-a-half years and we attained Test status. There are areas where we need to tighten up, but we’re working on it. It doesn’t happen overnight.”

Zimbabwe convener of selectors, Walter Chawaguta, is optimistic about Zimbabwe’s chances in the tri-series, with a squad comprising a nice balance between youth and experience. The selection panel are yet to reveal who will lead the side, a matter Chawaguta said is still being discussed.

Star names Brandan Taylor, Sikandar Raza, Graeme Cremer and Sean Williams have not been included due to the fallout from the ongoing player-board fracas over non-payment of salaries.

When asked whether more players named in the 17-man squad could drop out following the announcement, Chawaguta said: “My assumption is that everyone is available and I’ve got no reason to think otherwise.” Ryan Murray and Brandon Mavuta are in-line to make their debuts if they’re given the nod.

The tri-series begins on Sunday 1 July with the hosts taking on Pakistan. All fixtures will be played in the capital, Harare.

Squad: Cephas Zhuwao, Chamu Chibhabha, Hamilton Masakadza, Wellington Masakadza, Brian Chari, Blessing Muzarabani, Solomon Mire, Tarisai Musakanda, Elton Chigumbura, Malcolm Waller, Peter Moor, Tendai Chisoro, Brandon Mavuta, Chris Mpofu, Ryan Burl, Ryan Murray, Kyle Jarvis.

Cricket Australia monitoring security in Zimbabwe

SYDNEY (AP) — Cricket Australia says it is closely monitoring the security situation in Zimbabwe after a bomb blast at an election rally but Australia's tour there next month will proceed at this stage.

Two people died and 49 were wounded when a bomb exploded at an election rally in Bulawayo Saturday in what is thought to have been an attempt on the life of Zimbabwe president Emmerson Mnangagwa. Zimbaweans will go the polls July 30 in their first election since long-serving President Robert Mugabe was forced from office in a military coup.

Cricket Australia said Tuesday it is closely monitoring developments in Zimbabwe where Australia is due to play a Twenty20 Tri Series with Pakistan and Zimbabwe from July 1 to 8.

"The safety and security of our players and support staff is paramount and, as always, we will take advice from the relevant Australian authorities," a Cricket Australia spokesman said.

Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has warned that "instances of conflict cannot be ruled out in the lead-up to, during and soon after the election." In a travel warning, it said "the security situation could deteriorate quickly."

A bomb blast has heightened political tensions in Zimbabwe ahead of a landmark election, but Australia's cricket tour of the troubled African nation will proceed at this stage.

Australia face England this week in a one-off Twenty20 then are due to take on Zimbabwe and Pakistan, with the T20 tri-series to run July 1-8 in Harare.

A standoff between Zimbabwean cricketers and their board over unpaid match fees that date back almost a year will mean the hosts field an XI minus some of their best players.

But there are far more serious questions hanging over Australia's first tour of Zimbabwe since dictator Robert Mugabe's 37-year reign ended in last year's military coup.

Zimbabwe is due to hold an election on July 30, with president Emmerson Mnangagwa seeking to bolster his government's legitimacy after seizing power.

Mnangagwa was the subject of an apparent assassination attempt on the weekend, when he survived a deadly explosion during a party rally at a Bulawayo stadium.

Cricket Australia is monitoring the situation closely.

"The safety and security of our players and support staff is paramount and as always, we will take advice from the relevant Australian authorities," a CA spokesperson said.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is warning Australians that "instances of conflict cannot be ruled out in the lead up to, during and soon after the election" and "the security situation could deteriorate quickly".

Australian visitors are currently advised to "exercise a high degree of caution in Zimbabwe".

Whitewash 'stings' but Paine looks to future

The T20 series isn't an International Cricket Council event, meaning security arrangements are the responsibility of member boards.

However, the ICC is also currently assessing the security situation in relation to its match officials. Local broadcasters are expecting the tri-series to go ahead.

CA received assurances on several fronts, including security, during a routine pre-tour visit earlier this month.

Meanwhile, the sorry state of debt-riddled Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) will be discussed during ICC board meetings next week. Reports in Harare suggest ZC will soon be threatened with suspension.

ZC is also currently in a messy dispute with players.

Veteran batsman Brendan Taylor, the overall leading run-scorer at the World Cup qualification tournament in March, headlined a list of stars absent from Zimbabwe's T20 squad.

Former convener of selectors Tatenda Taibu claims Taylor was overlooked because he attempted to start a players' union, frustrated by ZC's stalling on owed income.

Chief selector Walter Chawaguta insists Taylor made himself unavailable and there will be no boycott from players already named in the T20 squad, as has been suggested.

Taibu, head coach Heath Streak and ZC's entire coaching staff were fired earlier this year following the nation's failure to reach the 2019 World Cup, while Graeme Cremer was sacked as captain.

All systems go for T20 tri-series: Aaron Finch

Australia's T20 players have declared it's "all systems go" for next month's T20 tri-series in Zimbabwe amidst continuing political unrest in the country.

A bomb blast last weekend heightened political tensions in the African nation ahead of a landmark election, with Australia and Pakistan – the world's top two-ranked T20 teams – due to visit Harare for matches from July 1-8.

The Aussies have a one-off match against England at Edgbaston tonight (3.30am Thursday AEST) before they head to Africa, and are confident the tour will proceed without incident.

"We were briefed on it last night by Frank (Dimasi) our security guy and all systems go," said Australia T20 captain Aaron Finch.

"With DFAT, the Australian Government and Cricket Australia, they'll make sure that all the due diligence is done to make sure it is safe.

"But at this stage I haven't heard any unease from the player in regards to going."

Cricket Australia is continuing to monitor the situation closely.

What time does the T20 starts? it says 10Am online.. why so earlier.

HOSTS Zimbabwe have assured the Australia national cricket team that they have “nothing to fear” ahead of the upcoming Triangular Series at Harare Sports Club from this Sunday.

The Aussies are expected in the country today for the series which also features world number one side, Pakistan.

The Pakistan team also arrive in Harare today.

The Australians are flying from England where they played a one-off T20 match yesterday in the back of a disappointing five-match One Day International whitewash defeat.

The tourists had earlier advised they were monitoring the situation in Zimbabwe and were advised to “exercise a high degree of caution” following a bomb blast at a political rally in Bulawayo last Sunday.

However, the series has never been in doubt since Zimbabwe has generally been a peaceful nation.

A Zimbabwe Cricket official yesterday said security has been beefed up around the hotels and at the Harare Sports Club where the matches will take place for the whole of next week, beginning Sunday, when Zimbabwe lock horns with Pakistan.

“There is really nothing to fear. Despite that incident, Zimbabwe is still a safe destination and as usual security has been boosted ahead of the series.

“In fact, nothing has been left to chance,’’ said the official.

Security arrangements of the visiting teams in T20I cricket is the responsibility of the home board.

The ICC has also dispatched their security personnel to monitor the situation on the ground.

The ICC security official arrived in the country on Tuesday.

But both the Australian government and the cricket team have been convinced about touring Zimbabwe.

Australian captain Aaron Finch told a press conference that it’s “all systems go” after getting a positive briefing from their security personnel.

“We were briefed on it last night by Frank (Dimasi) our security guy and all systems go. With DFAT (Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade), the Australian Government and Cricket Australia, they’ll make sure that all the due diligence is done to make sure it is safe.

“But at this stage I haven’t heard any unease from the players in regards to going,” said Finch.

Cricket Australia, however, is continuing to monitor the situation closely.

“The safety and security of our players and support staff is paramount and as always, we will take advice from the relevant Australian authorities,” said a CA spokesperson.

Zimbabwe hosted nine teams earlier this year in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier and the tournament passed without any incident.

Flexible Head happy to fit anywhere

As Australia search for a winning combination in limited-overs cricket, Adelaide Strikers captain Travis Head says he’ll bat anywhere in the order for the benefit of the national team.

Australia blew off the cobwebs yesterday with a training run at Harare Sports Club having travelled from England to Zimbabwe for a T20 tri-series against the hosts and world No.1 outfit Pakistan.

The Australians posted 193 in the one-off T20 international against England at Edgbaston on Wednesday but it wasn’t enough as the home side won by 28 runs to see Aaron Finch’s charges slip one spot to third in the ICC T20I team rankings.

Head made 15 from 10 balls in Birmingham batting at No.4, a position he has occupied in six of his 11 innings at T20I level and in four of his last five matches dating back to February 2017.

Last summer he batted at first-drop for the Adelaide Strikers in their successful KFC Big Bash League title run, but in one-day cricket the left-hander has performed best when facing the new ball.

In 10 innings opening the batting he averages 48.40 with one century – 128 against Pakistan at the Adelaide Oval in 2017 – and four half-centuries, three of which came at the back end of the ODI campaign against England that ended in a 5-0 series win to the home side.

Blessed with a squad packed full of dangerous power hitters, including the likes of captain Finch, Nic Maddinson, Glenn Maxwell, D’Arcy Short, Marcus Stoinis and Alex Carey, Australia’s selectors have plenty of options when it comes time to select the batting unit for Monday’s first match against Pakistan.

But the flexible Head says he’ll slot in anywhere in the order if it helps his team get a much-needed win on the board.

"I’ve always said I’m not too bothered where I bat," Head told cricket.com.au in Harare.

"Whatever’s best for the team is where I’ll fit.

"I think I fit in anywhere in the order and can play a role for the team.

"I got my chance at four the other night (at Edgbaston). I didn’t play as well as I would’ve liked.

"I’m working hard at the minute and wherever my spot fits I’ll fit."

The week-long T20 tri-series is head coach Justin Langer’s second series in charge after being named Darren Lehmann’s successor following the events in South Africa.

Langer’s first campaign didn’t go to plan – a 5-0 whitewash at the hands of England and a T20I defeat – but Head says the new mentor’s approach is having a positive impact on his game.

"He’s been working us really hard, relaxed but fair," Head said.

"He’s really hard on basics. Me personally, the last four weeks have been the best that I’ve trained.

"It hasn’t reflected the way I’ve been playing with a couple of starts without a big score.

"But that shift in the training mentality and how we think about the game is definitely a shift and is something I’ve really enjoyed."

The T20 tri-series begins tonight when Zimbabwe face Pakistan from 6pm AEST, with all matches shown live into Australia on Fox Sports.

Tiripano replaces injured Jarvis

Jarvis has been ruled out of the series after he broke his right thumb while fielding in the opening match against Pakistan on Sunday.

Zimbabwe will be looking to bounce back after a 74 run defeat in the first match, but after Australia’s thumping nine-wicket win over Pakistan yesterday, Hamilton Masakadza’s men will be reminded of how tough an assignment they have.
Yesterday, Australia were brutal in their approach with both bat and ball, with Billy Stanlake first ripping through the Pakistan top order with four wickets that came at a cost of eight runs in four overs.

Pakistan were taken out for 116 runs in 19.5 overs, with Shabab Khan top scoring with 29 runs, with Andrew Tye too 3-38.

Asif Ali made 22, Faheem Ashraf 21 Shoaib Malik 13 and Hussain Talat were the only other Pakistan batsmen that reached double figures.

With the platform well set, Australia skipper Aaron Finch smashed six maximums and four boundaries, as he made an unbeaten 68 that came off just 33 balls to guide his team to an opening win.

Australia needed just 10.5 overs to reach their target with A’Arcy Short (15) becoming the only Pakistan wicket, while Travis Head (20) partnered Finch to the end.

Masakadza wants to see his team apply themselves better when they take on Australia this morning in the search of a win for the hosts.

“Only bright point was winning the toss,” he observed after Sunday’s match.

“We gave them 20 runs extra. It was not ideal that Jarvis went out injured as well. We started okay but we lost our way in the middle period.

“Our batting order was fine, but the execution was a problem. Just the first game of the series. We don’t need to make changes in the team yet, but we need to apply ourselves better at the top of the order.”

Zimbabwe interim coach Lalchand Rajput will also be seeking an improvement from his charges who were outplayed by Pakistan in all aspects of the game on Sunday.

He will ask for improvement in just about everything, but importantly, he will want to see the team stay in the game much longer than they did in the first encounter.

Zimbabwe fined for slow over-rate in Harare

Zimbabwe have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate in their T20I Tri-series match in Harare on Tuesday, which Pakistan won by seven wickets.
Jeff Crowe of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees imposed the fine after Hamilton Masakadza’s side was ruled to be one over short of their target when time allowances were taken into consideration.

In accordance with Article 2.5.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Players Support Personnel, which relates to minor over-rate offences, players are fined 10 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount.

As such, Masakadza has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee, while his players have received 10 per cent fines. If Zimbabwe commit another minor over-rate breach in a Twenty20 International within 12 months of this offence with Masakadza as captain, it will be deemed a second offence by Masakadza and he will face a suspension.

Masakadza pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Langton Rusere and Iknow Chabi, third umpire Russell Tiffin and fourth umpire Jeremiah Matibiri.

Aaron Finch confident his side are on the right track ahead of the final against Pakistan on Sunday.

Glenn Maxwell's welcome return to form with a solid 38-ball 56 along with Andrew Tye's fourth-successive three-wicket haul ensured Australia overcame a resurgent Zimbabwe outfit on Friday 6 July in Harare.

Having restricted the hosts to 151/9 in their 20 overs, Maxwell and Travis Head (48) added 103 in just 71 deliveries for the fourth wicket to lead the chase. A few late wickets did make Australia stutter towards the close, but Marcus Stoinis and Ashton Agar knocked off the seven runs needed in the final over to help Australia warm up for the final against Pakistan on Sunday in style.

Aaron Finch admitted it got a little tense in the end but is confident his side will be up and ready come the final.

“I thought they bowled well towards the end and shows the value of having a set batsman at the end,” Finch said after the win. “I think it is important to get some time in the middle, get batting rhythm. They are hitting the balls well in training but nothing compares to match practices.”

The Australian captain also lauded the efforts of his bowlers after they restricted Zimbabwe to under 160. “The bowling was very good, we restricted Zimbabwe 15-20 runs short of what they'd have liked. We've been working up so far and hopefully we peak in the final.”

Tye was once again the lynchpin of the Australian bowling attack. The pacer has been exceptional for the visitors in the middle stages, varying his pace and his length. His latest three-for ensured Zimbabwe never quite got away.

The 31-year-old is comfortably the leading wicket-taker this series with 12 wickets in four outings.

“It's something I've been working on, taking wickets at crucial times," said a happy Tye. "I've got lucky in this series, taking wickets in the death and stopping teams when they want more runs. Good that we got the win today, hopefully as a team we get a win on Sunday too.

“I just try to adapt to every batsman because they're all different. We've had a few troubles but I think we're saving our best for the last.”

After a rather timid start to the series, Zimbabwe came back in the final two games well. They ran Pakistan close in the earlier game on Tuesday and then got Australia thinking in the end overs in the last game.

With the bat, at one stage they looked like posting in excess of 160, but lost wickets at crucial junctures. Solomon Mire waged a lone hand again, cracking a 52-ball 63, but found little support at the end bar in the form of Peter Moor.

“We fought well and took it to the end, which was good. The wicket played slower than expected and we couldn't quite kick on in the end even though we had a good partnership in the middle,” said Hamilton Masakadza, their captain.

“We spoke about coming back from the first two games and the guys expressing themselves and I think Mire did that brilliantly. We are on the up now and I'm sure we'll keep getting better.”

Injury puts Solomon Mire out of ODIs against Pakistan

Kyle Jarvis ruled out with injury too, as Zimbabwe suffer setbacks in the lead up to five-match series.

Zimbabwe's chances in the upcoming one-day international series against Pakistan suffered a big setback with Solomon Mire, their star opener, ruled out after sustaining a gluteal tear.

The 28-year-old picked up the injury during his innings of 63 against Australia during Zimbabwe's last game of the tri-nation Twenty20 International series last week. He had plundered a 63-ball 94, Zimbabwe's highest score in the format, just two days earlier against Pakistan, the third team in the competition.

Despite Mire’s best efforts, though, Zimbabwe failed to make the final after losing all their four games.

“He will be out for at least three weeks as he concentrates on physiotherapy rehabilitation which aims to speed up healing and make sure the tear heals without tight scar tissue formation,” Anesu Mupotaringa, the Zimbabwe physiotherapist, said on Mire.

Mire, who amassed 212 runs in four outings and was the third-highest scorer in the tournament, soared an astonishing 202 places on the MRF Tyres ICC T20I Players Rankings for batsmen at the end of the tournament. He ended with a career-best 581 points and the 25th place on the table.

Jarvis, the medium pacer, has also been ruled out of the ODI series. He fractured his right thumb during the first game of the T20I series against Pakistan while attempting a catch. Jarvis did not play any further part in the series and the physio has confirmed that the medium pacer will be out for at least six weeks.

Liam Roche, former Zimbabwe Under-19 captain, Tinashe Kamunhukamwe and Ryan Murray have been included in the squad and are in line for their debuts.

All five ODIs between Zimbabwe and Pakistan will be staged at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo, with the first game on Friday, 13 July

That Zimbabwe squad is barely their B team.

They are now missing 7 frontline players.

The Pakistan cricket team had to delay their departure from Harare to Bulawayo after Zimbabwe cricket association failed to book a hotel for them due to financial issues. Pakistan were earlier scheduled to fly to Bulawayo on Monday but had to stay in a hotel in Harare. The team’s travel was later re-scheduled for Thursday morning after the management made all the provisions.

Zimbabwe cricket has been facing financial issues for quite some time as they recently postponed their domestic tournaments and also failed to make payments to some of the players. The five-match ODI series between the two teams starts from July 13 and will continue till July 22. Pakistan had been in good touch in T20I cricket, maintaining their top position in the rankings after defeating Australia in the final of the tri-series.

Zimbabwe, on the other hand, lost all their round-robin matches and could not find a place for themselves in the final. All the five ODIs are scheduled to be played at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo. Pakistan would be led by Sarfraz Ahmed while Zimbabwe will have Hamilton Masakadza as their skipper.

Wow this is embarrassing!

The ICC should help ZC out in such matters. In fact,if they take over ZC themselves it will be better.

They helped them, but authorities took all the money and ZCB was left in same state it was, since then ICC gave up doing social work
