Pakistan U19 will aim to clinch another title when they take on hosts Zimbabwe in the U19 tri-series final at the Old Hararians in Harare on Tuesday, 6 January. The first-ball of the match will be bowled at 9.30am local time. Fresh from their title win in the ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup in Dubai, where they defeated India by 191 runs on 21 December, Pakistan will be looking to secure back-to-back titles under the leadership of Farhan Yousaf.

The 50-over tri-series was organised to help Afghanistan, Pakistan and Zimbabwe prepare for the ICC Men’s U19 World Cup, scheduled to take place in Namibia and Zimbabwe from 15 January to 6 February.

Pakistan topped the group stage with six points from four matches. Both of their fixtures against the hosts were washed out, with only the first innings completed on each occasion.

Zimbabwe finished second with five points, while Afghanistan ended the league phase in third position with one point.

For Pakistan, Sameer Minhas, who was named player of the tournament in the recently concluded eight-team ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup, has led the batting charts in the tri-series with 246 runs from four matches at an average of 61.50 and a strike rate of 114.42, including one century and one half-century. 18-year-old Usman Khan is another centurion for Pakistan, scoring 225 runs at an average of 56.25.

In the bowling department, right-arm fast bowler Umar Zaib has grabbed five wickets from three matches, while leg-spinner Usman has picked four wickets.

Pakistan U19 captain Farhan Yousaf looking ahead to the final, said:

“The tri-series has helped us prepare well for the upcoming mega event. Our batting unit has shown positive intent, while the bowlers have delivered at key moments.

“Playing a final against the hosts will be a good challenge for us. The players are ready and we want to finish the tournament on a positive note and carry momentum into the World Cup.”

Pakistan skipper eyes another title ahead of U19 World Cup

Pakistan will look to carry their winning momentum into the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup as they take on Zimbabwe in the tri-series final. The tournament has served as vital preparation ahead of the marquee event, and Pakistan will be eager to cap it off on a high note as they chase back-to-back titles following their recent triumph in the U19 Asia Cup.

“The tri-series has helped us prepare well for the upcoming mega event. Our batting unit has shown positive intent, while the bowlers have delivered at key moments.

“Playing a final against the hosts will be a good challenge for us. The players are ready, and we want to finish the tournament on a positive note and carry momentum into the World Cup,” said Farhan Yousaf.

Pakistan have enjoyed an impressive run in recent months as they build towards the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, set to begin on January 15. Under the leadership of Farhan Yousaf, the young side lifted the Under-19 Asia Cup last month, producing a dominant performance in the final to defeat arch-rivals India by a commanding 191 runs.

Sameer Minhas has emerged as the standout performer for Pakistan and will be one of the key players to watch at the U19 World Cup. The stylish batter topped the run-scoring charts at the U19 Asia Cup, piling up 471 runs at a remarkable average of 157 and a strike rate of 117.46. He has continued that red-hot form into the tri-series, once again leading the charts with 246 runs from four matches, averaging 61.50 at a strike rate of 114.42. With momentum firmly on their side, Pakistan will be aiming to add to their two Under-19 World Cup titles and claim their first triumph in the tournament since 2006.

What nonsense batting is that i dont care what age group but one must always go in with right combination playing FIVE out an out pacers is madness

I think it’s almost like a bowl off between Sayyam, Subhan and Zaib I.e. which of these quicks will be joining Ali Raza in the WC team.

Zaib’s made a strong claim here.

Subhan and Seyam can play and I think Umer Zeb has effectively replace Ali Raza in the playing XI , similar or just few ks less pace but alot more to offer.

He again today got all of his wicket due to pace and movement.

I would say play all the 4 pacers , our spin attack is toothless anyway and the both specialist spinners can't bit at all so rather play 4 pacers and use Usman and Ahmed Hussain to complete the 5th bowler quota and even Huzaifa can bowl some off spin.

Ali Raza is your main pacer for the World Cup, no way does he get replaced by anyone.

i agree but still balance wont be right . Even four out and out pacers who are not all rounders isnt a good combo need all rounders or more batters especially when teh batting is so bad

There is lot of movement in todays pitch if Pak batted first they would have struggled too

i mean here i dont understand the captaincy you are playing 5 genuine pacers so there is no need to be using part time spin what so ever

Sameer batting at over 200S/R and it's not that Zim bowlers are serving him pies , they have got good pace and hitting the right channels as well.

That is also a thing.
But his ego meant he couldnt brcome a world class players and not acheive things he should have
The ultimate responsibility falls on the player, however it’s also true that Pakistan cricket sorely lacks in player management and development from when they first join the setup to about two years in. They get lost in the glare of ‘stardom’ and the new attention they get. Those with either strong personalities or strong personal family environment make it out on the other side. Others, like Umar Akmal or Nasir Jamshed either self sabotage or go down the wrong path.

Young Umar Akmal was a beutiful player. Loved his attacking intent. You are 18-19 years old, you havent seen him play.
He was more talented than Kohli legitimately and arguably had a better start than him in terms of impact on world stage.

Those pick up sixes against big teams were something to watch.

Sameer Minhas smashes record ton as Pakistan U19 clinch tri-series title

A record-breaking century from Sameer Minhas powered Pakistan U19 to a commanding nine-wicket win over hosts Zimbabwe U19 in the final of the U19 tri-series at the Old Hararians in Harare on Tuesday afternoon. This success marked Pakistan U19 back-to-back titles, following their eight-team ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup win last month, where they defeated India by 191 runs in the final in Dubai.

Chasing 159 to win, Pakistan wrapped up the contest in just 16.2 overs, finishing with 202 balls to spare.

Right-handed batter Sameer scored a blistering 114 off 51 balls, an innings that included 17 fours and five sixes. It was Sameer’s second century of the tri-series. He brought up his hundred in just 42 balls, surpassing India’s Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who had struck a 52-ball century against England U19 in July 2025.

Earlier, Pakistan captain Farhan Yousaf opted to field first, a decision that paid rich dividends as the bowling unit kept Zimbabwe under constant pressure. Right-arm fast bowler Umar Zaib led the charge with an impressive four-wicket haul, while Abdul Subhan provided able support by taking two wickets.

Zimbabwe struggled to build momentum after losing early wickets and were reduced to 15 for five inside seven overs. Michael Blignaut top-scored with 60 off 102 balls, while Tatenda Chimugoro added an unbeaten 28. However, regular breakthroughs ensured the hosts were dismissed for 158 in 44.4 overs.

In turn, Sameer turned the final into a one-sided affair, sharing a 145-run opening-wicket partnership with Mohammad Shayan, who remained unbeaten on 38 off 42 balls, including four fours and one six.

With this emphatic win, Pakistan U19 will now turn their attention to the ICC U19 World Cup, set to begin in Zimbabwe and Namibia from 15 January.

Scores in brief:

Pakistan U19 won by nine wickets

Zimbabwe U19 158 all out, 44.4 overs (Michael Blignaut 60, Tatenda Chimugoro 28*; Umar Zaib 4-20, Abdul Subhan 2-25)

Pakistan U19 160-1, 16.2 overs (Sameer Minhas 114, Mohammad Shayan 38 not out)

Player of the match: Umar Zaib (Pakistan U19)

Player of the tournament: Sameer Minhas (Pakistan U19)

Pakistan have been picking up many series wins lately (U-19 level, Hong Kong Sixes, senior's team bilateral series etc.).

Good momentum.
