Pakistan are 269-1, Will they look to bat once and score big?

I hope Shehzad goes for 200, and doesn't take it easy like he did after his other 2 Test tons.

Hopefully Shafiq and Sarfraz get promoted. It's a good opportunity to let the two rack up some runs from a good position.

I want NZ batting after tea today. Need to score fast and declare at tea. Can't wait to see Williamson bat, hope he scores big, he's a great to watch, pure class.

I want Pakistan to win by innings margin but you never know what is next to come when you talk about Pakistan cricket.

NZ need to bowl tight and restrict the runs completely. 7-2 or 8-1 fields if necessary and try and force the batsmen to throw away their wickets.

Important day. Need to bat new Zealand out of the match.
Pile up some runs boys.

Pakistan should bat through today and declare tomorrow morning at some point. Aim to bat once and once only.

Here's an answer to a question one of you had asked yesterday.
Alec Benson: "The reason for the cross symbol for the team
wicketkeeper is that traditional typewriters had this symbol. An
asterisk for the captain, and the cross for the wicketkeeper. "

Batting wise for NZ, McCullum, Taylor and Williamson need to fire. If they fire, NZ will post a decent total. Usually I would back them to fire, but they just came back from injury, so it will be interesting to see how they play. Anyone else who scores will be a bonus.

Baz and Taylor have no idea how to play the ball turning away from them; I'd put my house on Babar or Yasir getting them.

I reckon Ish Sodhi and Yasir Shah are key bowlers in this game. In a track like this, only leggies can manage some sort of purchase. Sodhi has been NZ's more threatening bowler so far, he's unlucky to not have a wicket yet, has bowled well with no reward.

I expect Sodhi to rip through Pakistan at least once, and also expect Yasir to rip through NZ at least once.

I'd say Yasir. I don't think Babar will get much purchase on this track. Babar is more likely to take wickets with his arm ball.

McCullum will be more susceptible, Taylor is actually a good player of spin and has improved his offside play immensely in the past 2 years.

Pakistan should try to score fast on day 2, no need to bat slow, go with an average of 4+ in the next 40 overs. Get quick 500-550 runs, dont play with a draw mentality, believe in your bowlers, and let NZ give a fighting chance.

Shezad needs around 330 more runs in 5 innings to equal the fastest to 1000 test runs record for a Pakistani batsman. 4 inning to beat the record. He probably wont get it but should come close with the form he is in.

If a mediocre Test spinner like Tahir can, then so can Sodhi. Pakistan normally struggle against the ball turning away, especially if there is also a googly involved. If Sodhi doesn't rip through once, then I'll put it down to good coaching by Flower.

That bouncer really held up in the pitch. Shows how slow the surface is. The inexperienced NZ batsmen will struggle here.

so you have given up on them even before they have batted? If this is absolute road than kiwis should also make atleast 500 on it.

I'm talking about the likes of Latham, Neesham and Anderson. They have never played Test cricket in the SC before.

If Williamson and Taylor fire, they will make a respectable total.

Still not impressive. Southee atleast had the reverse going, got movement with the new ball and created chances as well.

Boult on the other hand....

Boult will struggle in dry conditions unless he learns to reverse. He can't reverse the ball yet. I'm sure he'll pick it up in the future, still very new. However, on this track, even reverse won't help pacers. Pacers are out of the equation on this pitch unless they're Johnson/Wahab type pacers.

We have had this discussion before.

Quality pacers will get wickets here, those who are good with reverse. Boult is just not that good.

Even Jhonson struggled here due to his inability to reverse.

This is a pacers graveyard. Boult and Southee have done well to keep the RR under check. You have to be Wasim/Waqar class to take wickets here. Junaid would not take wickets here, and Wahab would struggle too.

Nope, junaid would do alot better here than Boult and Southee

Junaid would get wickets here,
He always has.

Wahab would struggle,I agree. But that would be the case everywhere.

I usually don't get bored by tuk tuk when it comes to test matches but what these two are doing is nonsensical.
Atleast rotate the strike

Best thing that can happen for Pakistan here is for Azhar Ali to get out - he seems completely incapable of reading the match situation.

This track is different. The opposition is different too. All of Junaid's wickets are against SL, a side that is weak against pace.

Wahab would be more likely to get wickets due to the fact that he hits the deck hard, reverses and is much quicker. Both would toil on this wicket, especially against a side that likes playing pace.

This is why Azhar Ali shouldn't be our #3. He is not dynamic enough. Azhar is an opener, Shafiq should be at #3.

I expect these two to slow down further the closer they approach 200 and 100 each.

Shehzads habit of playing away from body will cause him trouble in bowler helping conditions.. he needs to be more compact.

I think he's been working on it. Doing it less, and when he did it, he got mad at himself. Good to see technical flaws being fixed.

Run rate is now up to 3 RPO. Its been a good morning session thus far.

Im just glad we don't have to play India on this pitch. Their FTBs would be on about about 500 odd by now.
