So 2-0 for now and seemed that the team combination did work.

Abdullah Shafique shoud get another chance for now.

And Usama seemed more effective than Shadab whilst Ihsanullah also needs more exposure so I would like no changes.

I would add Ifti in place of Agha as he can also bowl as a part timer. Rest looks fine, this time it's going to be Karachi, so if we are chasing again, it's not gonna easy as it was in Pindi.

Tom Latham’s New Zealand could have clinched their first victory in the five-match ODI series against Pakistan but a few dropped catches hurt them on a flat surface.

New Zealand set a competitive total of 337 for Pakistan to chase after a valiant knock of 129 (119) from the bat of Daryl Mitchell, however, Fakhar Zaman stepped up for Pakistan to clinch the victory for the hosts.

“Daryl played a fantastic inning. Halfway mark we were pretty happy. Full credit to Fakhar, played an outstanding knock. That’s the nature of cricket, happens (talking about the dropped catches). They were able to build partnership after partnership. Big tick in the batting department. Have done that well in the last couple of games. Wickets here tend to be flat. We have to create more chances in the middle phases,” Tom Latham said after the match.

In a high-scoring game, several records were broken during the game, including Fakhar becoming the fourth Pakistani batter to score three straight hundreds in ODIs and becoming the nation’s fastest player to reach 3000 ODI runs. Pakistan’s total of 337/3 was also the fourth-highest ODI score by Pakistan’s men’s team in an ODI and their second-best run chase.

Mitchell’s knock featured eight boundaries and three sixes, and his score, which surpassed Ricky Ponting’s 124* in 1998 as the best by any No.3 batsman from a visiting nation, was the most by a New Zealander in an ODI in Pakistan.

Pakistan will try to seal the series in the third match of the ODI series on 3rd May at the National Stadium Karachi. (ANI)

Ifti for Agha

Shaheen for Haris Rauf.

Give Ihsanullah another game, but don't open the bowling with him yet.

Kamran Akmal on Pakistan resting main players...

"Pakistan rested Shaheen Shah Afridi, which is not a strategic move. We have World Cup on our head, and he should be playing 50 overs format maximum. This will help him get his rhythm back and shall increase his pace, too, which the Pakistan team needs right now"

"His workload could have been managed in a better way. Shaheen should have been rested in the T20I series, but they opted to play him in all five matches. On the contrary, they gave breaks to Naseem Shah, which turned out to be fruitful for him - his pace and his maturity are excellent these days. The point is they should have played Shaheen as well as Shadab. They are your main players; they need to resuscitate their forms, their rhythms. It is crucial, keeping the future in sight. I don't understand who is taking these decisions and not thinking about the future"

Ramiz Raja's advice to NZ:

"New Zealand should rethink and understand that if they want to claim a win, particularly in the subcontinent, then they need to score more than 337. Secondly, they shouldn't hold the wickets till the end and then wait to accelerate the score further. Keeping wickets in hand doesn't matter because when the opponent is as strong as Pakistan, who is a force to reckon with in death bowling. There is a reason why Pakistan is a dominant team in white-ball cricket, because Pakistan bowlers are the best at death-bowling in the world. Kiwis need to generate more pace and re-strategize in order to claim a victory"

They have Phillips, Allen and Conway present in their squad to make 400 for them on Pindi tracks

Why is Conway not playing this ODI series especially against an opposition who are favourites for winning the World Cup later this year?

Kamran Akmal should be the last person to advice on strategic front, and pity on those journalists who ask him these silly questions

Agha Salman's bowling isn't good enough to classify him as an allrounder. He basically bowls at the same level as Haris Sohail

Imam
Fakhar
Babar
Shafique
Rizwan
Iftikhar
Nawaz
Usama
Naseem
Ihsanullah
Haris

Agha Salman's bowling isn't good enough to classify him as an allrounder. He basically bowls at the same level as Haris Sohail

I would say Haris Sohail bowls better than Agha Salman, infact haris can be handy as a bowler but Agha is really a nothing bowler.

Haris Rauf in an interview:

"Gone are the days when we use to face anything less than 300 runs. Modern day cricket is all about chasing down anything around or over 300. I am happy that we have managed to chase down big totals. As a bowler, you concede runs in ODI cricket these days. You should be ready for that,”

“Twice Rizwan came to the team’s help in the middle-order, helping the side finish off the match. Babar and Rizwan have been fantastic when it comes to raising partnerships.”

“Winning and losing is part of the game. But a good performance in the series would help the team get in a good rhythm for the Asia Cup and later for the World Cup. We would make an all-out effort to continue the same tempo for the rest of the series.”

“The tourists will also be looking forward to stage a recovery. We on the other hand would try to make the best of the opportunity coming our way.”

Bring in Iftikhar while he's in good form. Let's see if he's capable of playing a big inning.

Shaheen in for Haris and Mohammed Wasim in for Ihasunullah. We need to rotate out fast bowlers in the ODI arena.

Bring in Afridi to open bowling with Ihsanullah in Karachi. That is an ideal combo if Ihsanullah is upto it. I would love to see that opening bowling combo in WC if it worked against NZ.

Let Rizwan bat at 4 because he has been crying about it

Shaheen in for Haris and Mohammed Wasim in for Ihasunullah. We need to rotate out fast bowlers in the ODI arena.

Rotate Ihsanullah after a single match, He just played his first Odi that too on the flatest of pitches. He needs to play the remaining 3 matches. Haris or Naseem can be rotated but not Ihsan

Imaam
Fakhar
Babar
Abdullah
Rizwan
Agha Salman
Imad Wasim
Usama Mir
Rauf
Naseem Shah

Wonder if there will be backlash/change due to Rizwan outburst?

“The pitches in Rawalpindi were conducive for batting but I don’t think that the same can be said about the surface in Karachi. Spinners will play a crucial role in Karachi and I don’t think that we will see big scores,” Salim Malik to the media.

Fakhar
Imam
Babar
Rizwan
Iftikhar
Abdullah shafique(he should be entrusted a finisher job...can accelerate and has good shots)
M.nawaz
Osama
Shaheen
Naseem
Ihsanullah

Ihsanullah is suffering from pain in his right arm and is expected to be rested along with Abdullah Shafique, who only managed seven runs in the second ODI.

Shaheen is likely to return to the playing XI after resting in the second ODI. Iftikhar Ahmed is also expected to make his ODI comeback, after he replaced the injured Haris Sohail in the squad for the final three ODIs of the five-match series.

Cannot believe they will drop Shafique after bad score?!

Too much of a punt in WC year.
Abdullah is yet to play a single substantial innings in LOI. All we know about him today is that he is a decent opener in test cricket at home but yet to be tested overseas.
Salman Agha has and at that no6 slot.

Rizwan is a better batsman than Imam and at-par with Babar and Fakhar. He should ideally be playing no4.

This means Ifti is the best bet for no5 with WC so close now. Ifti has nailed domestics at no3/no4 btw.

Fact > aspiration

If they ain't going to give players a couple games then thiers no point in playing them for a single game.

Rizwan isn't on par with Fakhar or Babar in odis he's actually not even Imaam level in odis.

Don't know how many LA matches Ihsanullah has played, his body might not be used to bowling 10 overs in a days. Shaheen hasn't played a LA match in over a year so it makes sense to gradually build up their workload.

Even though Abdullah hadn't done anything in LA to merit a place in the squad, but now that he's been picked, should be given the next 3 ODIs.

Iftikhar can come in for Agha maybe as Agha's bowling is a far cry to be considered as proper bowling option. Agha hasn't done too bad with the bat so could be given another game but Iftikhar's presence would strengthen the batting especially when Usama Mir is playing.

Perfect side for first came at World Cup...

Imam
Fakhar
Babar
Riz
Ifti
Imad
Shadab
Nawaz
Afridi
Haris
Shah

I wouldnt let anyone else near this side...

I like this side but will be flexible between imad / Haris sohail and ifti.

Imad is not very effective in one days and as a sixth bowling option both ifti and Haris can do a job and strengthen the batting .

This series should have been used to give Saim Ayub a few matches as an opening batsmen against New Zealand’s reserve bowling attack on flat wickets.

Instead nothing new was tried it’s likely Imam Rizwan Iftikhar will do the usual go missing in big matches at the World Cup.

An extra batsman is needed. I'd remove 1 of Imad/Shadab/Nawaz for someone like Haris Sohail, especially as Ifti can bowl some spin too.
