Is there a chance of Rahat retaining his spot in the playing XI, or will common sense prevail?

There is a chance that we're missing something, and that Rahat's lack of wickets (or threatening bowling) is good somehow? :rahat He is beyond stats after all.

Hasan ali should play without single doubt.rahat ali is bowling same old garbage against ireland trundling around 130s which won.t be sucessful against england

Sadly both might play if Amir is not fully fit for the game. otherwise Rahat should be dropped.

Amir, Hasan, Abbas and one of Fahim/Shadab should be our attack. Let's not go with five bowlers if the conditions are expected to be bowling-friendly.

Ah the trundling nonsense starts up again. Speed is Rahat's problem? How fast is Abbas bowling and taking these wickets? How fast was Sohail bowling when he took 5fers in the last tour against England?

Sohail picked up wickets, Abbas picks up wickets. Rahat I am not sure what exactly he is lacking, but he is definitely lacking something that is hindering his ability to pick up wickets or even seem threatening.

As a bowler: You either:
- pick wickets

or at least pose some sort of a threat to the opposition with:
- Swing, or
- pace, or
- bounce
- or tight-line-&-length

Rahat is not doing any one of 5 things above. :|

Don't think there's any question. It has to be Hasan Ali.

How can anyone even think about dropping Rahat Ali, he is without any doubt Pak's best bowler and certainly amongst top 3 bowlers in World.
This bias is beyond me

Number 1 bowler in the world, never mind top 3.

Hasan Ali will start over Rahat surely if he's fit (and Amir's not injured).

Biggest question is Faheem. His bowling adds very little and doesn't seem the fifth bowler that was hoped for. On the other hand batted very well this tests, and we need a batsman more than a bowler anyway.

I think we'll stick with Faheem but if he we lose the test/Faheem's batting isn't up to mark, think he'll be replaced in the line up pretty sharpish.

Babar ideally has to go, but with no practice games for middle order batsmen in the squad, think he'll be kept.

Hasan Ali. Do not forget that he can strengthen our tail while rahat is dud

Precisely, he would be a very useful number 9.

Hassan > Rahat in bowling, batting and fielding.

The role of a 5th bowler in Tests isn't really to be taking loads of wickets. If he takes 1 or 2 wickets per innings without conceding a lot of runs, that's totally fine.

and to be fair Fahim looks more threatening than Rahat.

Pak will play a 2 day practice game with Leicestershire after this Test; so good time to bring either Saad or Usman

Rahat he's got hidden ability with the bat yet to be discovered the next great batting all rounder is about to unleash himself.

Forget bowler, he's a top class all-rounder. He didn't play a single dot ball in the entire PSL and the Irish attack couldn't breach his defence on a greentop in swinging conditions.

Furthermore, Pakistan have a five year unbeaten streak in test series in which Rahat played more than one test.

Should be the first name on the team sheet :rahat1

His hairstyle is enough to intimidate Eng bats; he needs to nothing and Pak will win, This guy has highest score of 35 in SA; so can definitely be tried in place of Azhar Ali if he continues his bad form at the top.

Need a constitutional amendment to drop the legend, won't be easy. ICC also might object . :ma

Inzi should be ashamed for selecting this garbage Rahat.

What is Amir's deal? Guy needs a fragile sticker on him. Been resting easy for 5 years and now breaks down more than anyone.

That's the role of a part timer. Even some part timers can bowl that many overs. He's not exactly a bowler that turns the screws. If you're a fifth bowler and picked as one, you need to be doing the same as the other bowlers. Otherwise you perform to the level of a batsman.

I'd say drop him, get in a proper bat instead. His 80 was good, but I don't have much faith he'll replicate that consistently, and his bowling which is why he's picked over a batsman seems distinctly subpar.

What really irritates me even in LOI about Fahim is that he doesn't look good at either discipline batting or bowling. An allrounder should at least excel at something. In ODIs he doesn't bowl 10 overs, bats at 8. In tests he bats 8, bowls overs but isn't really expected to take wickets. There just seems to be no expectations or responsibility placed on him. Which isn't fair to him either, we can't properly gauge his performance, but then of course it's his fault for not excelling at a discipline too.

I think the team needs an overhaul. 300 runs in 2nd innings by Ireland is not acceptable.

Fakhar needs to come in for Imam, we could use his experience at the top and we need a good start given Azhar looks shaky.

Babar and Faheem need to be dropped for Usman and Saad respectively.

Rahat needs to be dropped for Hasan.

only Hassan because the energy he brings to out bowling unit is matchless.

rahat really looks a lost soul no energy nothing . now worst bowler also
Wahab must be laughing . Mickey too early to comment .wahab hasnt won us matches it is coming to haunt

2 wickets for Hasan Ali so far, although the 1st one wasn't exactly a great delivery. Great choice!
