I think we just got unlucky we lost our 3 main wickets in 3 balls, this isn't going to happen every game.

We just couldn't recover quick enough our middle order isn't that great vs the new ball

It's a crime having both hafeez & malik in the same line up malik should be replaced with Asif Ali

How ever we did have a fighting spirit but not just enough power down the order.

Faheem In and junaid/Hassan Ali out might make a difference

Sure they can. That's the good thing about LOIs, if you play well you will win, no side is handicapped by pitch doctoring and alien conditions.

By the same terrible logic, Williamson won't get out to a half-tracker every game, Shadab won't get 3 wickets in 4 balls every game etc.

Maybe, Law of Averages will catch up this team soon.

You cannot mantain a 100% record either way. We have lost 9 in 9 since the Champions Trophy, but we will beat a good team at some point.

When that happens, our fans can serve humble pies and celebrate the start of a new golden era.

Yes if they replace fakhar zaman with zeeshan malik. People seeing it now that fakhar is found out and exposed by the new zealanders, but that is not true.

First he was found out by the zimbabwians, but back then people where blindly loving him, bcz of of ct and didnt wanted to see his flaws.

Lolzz fakhar was already exposed for a long time now. It is just that people seeing it now, bcz fakhar was able to milk the zimbabwian medium pacers. Against the real fast bowlers he cant do anything.

I would say replace him with zeeshan malik.

I will advice to replace him with zeeshan malik who is an allround strokemaker. Also get mukhtar in the squad.

Instead of calling the heads of every other player who fails to turn up on few occasions. Give this lot a consistent run to settle down and see the results. This Pakistan current lot is certainly destined for Greatness.

Bottom line - Bobby Azam is a world class playa! Be PATIENT!

Mamoon is this you protecting yourself for the next game? Worried you might get roasted here if Pakistan somehow ends up winning the next two games?

9-2 is hardly better than 11-0.

If we end up on a winning streak against the top teams and and up with a positive W/L ratio, I will welcome the roasting.

In other words, if we win the South African ODI series regardless of what happens in the next two ODIs here, I will be the first to admit that we are improving.

However, as of today, I do not see any improvement.

Even if Pakistan wins the next two, you can't really say that Pakistan has started a new era in ODI cricket. Unless Pakistan consistently start beating top teams, these 1-2 victories will remain one-offs. What is more damaging to Pakistan cricket is when we win these series, not only the fans but the management also starts believing its hype.

There is a lot of work needed in ODI cricket for Pakistan. The benchmark right now is India whether anyone likes it or not. The problem is the fans do not want to accept India as the undisputed leader in cricket right now because we have a natural history against them. No sane person would've come out and said "India is scared of playing us" as Sarfraz did.

Pakistan doesnt look like winning an ODI game this YEAR.

Glad I milked the Champions Trophy win till it was fresh :afridi

Few quotes you hear a lot:
"surplus of resources is a good headache to have"
"people (playing) out of position will have significantly diminished value"
"make the most of the resources you have"

If you put these 3 things together, you'll have the answer to what is wrong with the Pakistan cricket team.

I genuinely believe that the resources that we have available in this team are good enough for us to be a good team. Not the best team. But a good team! and definitely not have a 9 - 0 record against top sides this year.

What do I mean?

1. We can't find a spot for Haris Sohail in the team. I think Saj posted his stats in the last few ODIs and they are better than most Pakistani batsman. But somehow we can't find a spot for him.

2. Hafeez . . In and out? Open or number 4? If a team hasn't realized his value in ODI cricket in 15 years, then its better to just bang your ahead against the wall. For me, IF Hafeez plays in ODIs, his role needs to be that, that was ACCIDENTALLY given to him in the final of the Champions trophy. Go out there after the 35 over mark and attack (and hope that he doesn't get banned again otherwise there's no place for him)

3. Asif Ali. We need a batsman like him at the death. No doubt about it. His effectiveness has been questionably till now. Also no doubt about it. But for me, he has shown glimpses to suggest that he can give you quick 30s at the end. But my point is, if you have selected him for the role and you believe that he is the best in the country to perform that role, then why dont you stick with him? Give him the time and the confidence to show it.

He has played 10 matches with 2 against India. And in one of those 2 games, he actually was playing well and looked like someone who could do a job for us. But his record for a number 7 batsman whos job is to accelerate is hardly anything to kick him out for. But again, you can't find a spot for him!

4. Fahim Ashraf / Shadab Khan / Imad Wasim: What do you do with this trio? Shadab I think is a great cricketer and I really hope he continues to learn, evolve and get better with age. He is only 20. But he is not the batsman you want walking out at the 40th over mark. He doesn't have that ability, so for Pakistan to count him a number 7 batsman is an issue because it creates a false impression of the batting depth. I think Shadab Khan can do a fantastic job in test cricket as a batsman (like he has shown). But in ODI, he should be played ONLY as a bowler (its all in the mindset).

Fahim Ashraf, while a decent bowler who is improving is not a good batsman. I have not seen any innings from him in the ODI team where he has had an impact with the bat (someone can correct me?). Unless he can become a reliable hitter, you can't count on him. Because if he can, then there is no need for Asif Ali. Right now, we ONLY need both of them because clearly the team doesn't trust our "all rounder" to do the job with the bat! So for me, he is only playing as a bowler, which again is wrong! Perhaps Amir Yamin is a better option than him with the bat even if his bowling is not as good as Faheem. But again . . DEPENDS ON THE ROLE you want this player to play!

Imad Wasim should be played depending on conditions. I think in places like the WI, UAE, Bang he adds value to the team. In South Africa, England, Australia, NZ, his bowling style doesn't suffice. But for me, he is a better batsman than both Fahiim Ashraf and Shadab khan in ODI cricket. So again, if you wnat him to play a role of a batsman who can bowl . . then work on it! and play him like that!!

5. Hasan Ali / Amir/ Shinwari / Shaheen Afridi / Junaid: Goodness gracious! You don't even know who starts? Man! And then on top of that add a captian who bowls Hasan Ali in the last overs when he is clearly out of form and Shaheen Afridi was the best fast bowler on the day . . doesn't help! For me personally, Amir, Hasan and Shaheen Afridi would be the 3 pace bowlers I'd like in the World cup . . but again . . idk what the team is thinking, but there is way too much tinkering and not enough planning

6. Form of Hasan Ali. Look! A lot of people are reacting harshly, and perhaps rightly so! He has been average at best given the heights that he achieved in 2017. Everyone was all praise (world over) for his abilities, his action, his control, his pace, his aggression, etc. etc. . . Also he had NO mystery about him (that he will get found out) . . he was just a good fast bowler! He has lost form . . perhaps focus . . Someone in the setup has to take him away and just get him back to what he was . . Some technical things include his lines and length . . his head position while delivering . . and generally, I think clutter in his head! He needs to sort it out ASAP. YOu don't lose ability over night!! He has the ability and it was/is well recognized . . it's a dip in form and focus! SOMEONE from the THINK TANK has to have the ability to address it . . or so I hope!

Lastly, This notion that we need hitters in teh line up and not accumulators is NOT correct! You need people in the line up who can BAT! Who will give you a SCORE more often that not! You can worry about hitting when that is taken care off . . A team comprising of Fakhar Zaman and Sharjeel Khan and Asif Ali and other quick scoring players will NOT give you the results (unless you can find a gilchrist and de kock and jason roy and kohli and bairstow in Pakistan)! I can bet my bottom dollar on it!

You need a team that covers all aspects and roles, and you've got the right people playing those roles . . For now, I think the Pakistan team has good resources. But the team management/think tank is at a loss on how to use those resources!

Like I said above, with people like Zaman, Babar, Haris, Malik (who has been in the form of his life), Shadab, Amir, Shaheen, Hasan Ali . . (also I am not saying these people are good players . . analysts and pundits world over recognize this fact) . . we have the ability to become a good team! We are grossly underperforming for the reasons I have mentioned above.

Yes if they replace fakhar zaman with zeeshan malik. People seeing it now that fakhar is found out and exposed by the new zealanders, but that is not true.

What??? :danish

Good Analysis unlike many Doom and Gloom posters. Bottom line is Pak has never had a good ODI team, and so this team is no different but not as bad as recent results shows. There is a potential for this team to be in top 4 but no more than that, due to lack of alternative batsmen groomed, and bad luck of losing Sharjeel.

Yeh ODI waghaira nahi khailtay ab hum. Bus T20 aur kabhi kabhi test.

50 over format to waisay hi boring hai. :djb

I'd play

1. Imam
2. Babar
3. Fakhar
4. Haris
5. Sarfraz
6. Malik
7. Imad
8. Shadab
9. Hasan Ali
10. Junaid Khan
11. Shaheen

Sad part, no new bats in the squad to try out. Inzi the revolutionary instead chose to impose 38 year old Prof on us. He had no qualms in selecting his mediocre nephew with a List A average of 32 (at the time) but cannot seem to select Saud Shakeel who after same number of innings has List A average of 50. Pathetic corrupt insaan.

I would play Hafeez at 6 and promote him if we get off to an excellent start..

This would be my playing eleven,

Fakhar
Imam
Barbar
Malik
Safaraz
Hafeez
Imad
Shadab
Faheem
Hasan Ali/Junaid
Afridi

Too much pressure on the fans... more than the team.... feelings right now:stokes:stokes:stokes:stokes

This would be my team:

Fakhar Zaman
Imam ul Haq
Babar Azam
Haris Sohail
Mohammad Hafeez
Shoaib Malik
Sarfraz Ahmed
Faheem Ashraf
Shadab Khan
Shaheen Afridi
Junaid Khan

In an ideal world I would choose only one of Hafeez or Malik. Haris comes in because we need a specialist batsman at number 4 and he is good against pace. It's a toss up between Imad or Faheem and I went with Faheem because Hasan Ali is out of form and we need a right handed bowler.

Call Saud over from Dubai and play this XI:

Fakhar
Babar
Haris
Saud
Sarfraz
Hafeez/Malik
Shadab
Imad
Hasan
Junaid
Shaheen

Don't understand why Hussain Talat isn't in the ODI squad.

Anyway

1.Babar Azam
2.Imam Ul Haq
3.Haris Sohail
4.Sarfraz Ahmed
5.Mohammad Hafeez
6.Shoaib Malik
7.Imad Wasim
8.Faheem Ashraf
9.Shadab Khan
10.Junaid Khan
11.Shaheen Afridi

They will just replace Hasan with Faheem thats it. No chance for Virat Haris

How about you check Haris' last 10 ODI scores and then form an opinion?

Why would I? Tell me inclusion of Haris will make Pakistan team greatest ODI team? We will start winning from there? NO
I do know Haris played well in last few matches but he's not Babar Azam.

We all know the result. The question is on the margin of defeat. Will it be big or will it be small? Who knows?

Pakistan needs to drop Fakhar and Hasan and get Asif/Haris and Faheem/Shinwari in if they want to win the next game.

An odd result is a very much possibility.

It's 9-0 on the trot, they have to win SOME game at some point. This can be the day.

However, winning will not mean anything unless we win this series + the South Africa ODI series.

Bangladesh didnt win against Pakistan for 45 odd matches. Same looks to he happening in Pak vs NZ matches.

We are surely better than this.
Open with babar and Imam
Followed by Harris at 3.

Fakher should go. Seems that his honey moon period is over.

I am wondering if it's worth waking up 5:50 in the morning to watch the match, knowing there is a strong possibility it might ruin my morning.

One positive we can take from the first match is that Sarfraz scored some runs.

Hopefully he has found some form.

It was a freak collapse that is part and parcel of Pakistani cricket.

Hopefully Fakhar is able to find some form.

We are massive underdogs but I expect a better performance in the second ODI.

Can only go up from here really, or can it get worse?

You do realise that's exactly what you need to win on these pitches

I know he's done pretty much zilch in the UAE due to the nature of the pitches but keeping Fakhar would at least give Pakistan the opportunity to get off to a flier.

Don't Pakistan already do that what with being Numreo Uno in T20's, Pakistani fans always saying how wondeful their team is?
